GM's thread about nothing (24 Viewers)

I need some advice. Should I write a letter to my school district director of personnel in support of a colleague? Background: Our principal jumped ship at the beginning of the school year. We had an interim principal move up from an elementary school. I work in a high school. The previous guy communicated like he was breathing. He wrote long emails constantly, held staff meetings all the time, had committees working on solutions. The new one barely speaks at all. She dictates what she wants and doesn't tell us much of what is going on. She's been using the buddy approach to discipline and has alienated her staff. Anytime we had discipline problems she just tells the students they should do better and sends them back to class. Students got to where they'd say, go ahead, send me to the office. They don't do anything.Anyway, something happened on the last day the seniors were on campus. Instead of stern warnings to the seniors that they wouldn't walk at graduation if they caused any shinanigans and sending them home after finals, she held a field day class competition. They ended up covering her in shaving cream. And while that was going on in the football field, the cafeteria erupted in a food fight. They finally got ahold of her and told her she'd know what was going on if she turned on her ####### phone. The following week she called us in to an early meeting and told us all how crappy we were. She said we were apathetic and had checked out ten years ago. She blamed us for all the problems going on. It was all very negative and demoralizing. After ripping us all a new one, she asked if there were any comments or questions. One lady, an older union member who is very involved with student clubs said that she thought the teachers were doing a great job. The principal basically told her to shut it and we were dismissed.Well, this lady was upset. She talked to some after the meeting and ended up in the office where she said something very regrettable. The office staff overheard her saying she wanted to kill that #####. The sheriff was called. She was put on administrative leave. And they are trying to, if not terminate her job, at least move her to another school. She is asking for people who attended the meeting to write a letter explaining the tone and mood of the meeting. She said we have to sign the letter, but that the signatures are supposed to be redacted before being passed on to the principal. I'm concerned that they might not be. The boss lady seems dangerous. Anyone who doesn't agree with her, she tries to get rid of. She's been writing people up for silly things. But I feel like I should support this teacher. What to do?\\\
If you support her in your heart, do it publicly. Sounds like the new principal has poisoned the environment so that its a hell hole to work there. Maybe you can help institue change for the better. Of course Abq isn't exactly a job mecca and self-preservation should probably be your priority. Its for me easy to coach from the sidelines.Best of luck to you.

Of course it does, though I can't say I speak for the FFA. Is there some controversy about this?
I waded into a grilling thread last summer and I remember some saying it was a myth. Those grilling threads frighten me, and I knew I would get a better, quicker answer here. :thanks:
Correct. It is a myth.

It's hard not to be fearful. She demoted a department head because she wanted to give an AP class to every student, and the dept. head said that it would set them up for failure, we wouldn't dummy it down just so they could pass it, that's not how we do things here at the high school.

Is this new principal interim or was she given the job full time? The obvious thing to say is to stand up for her, but that's easier said than done. The are obviously ramifications. That said, you're going to be miserable at this school with that principal there. If you do nothing, she will just get more power over time as she gets established. If you take a stand, you might have a chance at building a case towards her not being suitable and eventually getting her replaced. Of course, you might end up as the black sheep and ultimately get pushed out. Tough call. I'd be polishing my resume either way

Use union dues to hire a hit man and kill the b####. A threat was made. You have to follow through. The union will never be taken seriously again if you don't.Just ask yourself: WWJHD?(What Would Jimmy Hoffa Do?)

All of a sudden my son is afraid of the dark and has a lot of anxiety about going to bed. Said he is afraid of monsters, even though he tells me he understands they're not real.

Advice?

I'm going to assume that this won't work because you probably would have tried it if there was a chance, but does he have a comfort object? JR has this Longhorn pacifier that he got when he was an infant that he's attached to for some reason. I keep it on a shelf in his closet and he never sleeps with it. Whenever he has nightmares, I always break out the Longhorn paci and cover him in a baby blanket and he goes back to sleep.

While on vacation, I made a baby rattle for our little one out of an empty Miller Lite can/bottle thingy and a few pebbles. It was a proud parenting moment. Will post photos if I ever think about it. Maybe I can start selling them to hipsters.

HFS is it nasty here. Been raining constantly for 24+ hours. The wind is pretty nasty too. At least my new sod is happy. TBC

This happened to my son a few months back. Same thing: sudden fear of the dark, monsters, but completely understands they're not real. It seems like just another phase he's going through, so we let him fall asleep with the light on until he grows out of it.

here ya go

Stu, is the brunette your SIL?

Do all the Stus end up with good looking women?

Are you adopting?
Brunette? Gonna have to be more specific GB. Yes.

Maybe.
The one who, you know, shares your last name. And I'd like to apply for sonhood.

Sonship?

Sonness?

Sonnet?

Qualifications:

Cute and cuddly

Adorably chubby cheeks, legs, and belly.

Already circumcised

Rarely drools and hardly ever spits up on people

Mostly potty-trained

Minimal adult supervision required

Will only require a refresher on the sex talk

And maybe some pointers
Might want to check the order of the names again GB. That would be my sister. And do you mow lawns? (not a euphemism)

My younger brother proposed to his girlfriend yesterday while whale watching in Alaska. Even though they just moved in together, it caught her completely off guard and now gives her the entire week to celebrate with her family, as they are up there for her family reunion.

That son of a ##### can't do anything half-###.

Actually, I'm very proud of him and very happy for both of them. But this is just his style, all out in everything he does.

A little science on it.
Oops, I was thinking of the wrong kind of resting I guess. (drunk) Before cooking, you do not need to set out the meat and warm up before cooking. That's the myth that the grilling guys are talking about.

After the meat is cooked, resting is needed as Krista's awesome link shows.

That was my first question, but I know my brother. He knew she would say yes, or he wouldn't have asked.

An old football buddy stopped by last night for a few beers. I bet is has been 15 years since we've really talked. Amazing how that much time can go by and you can just pick right back up like you haven't missed a beat. About 2 am I had to call it a night. Good Lord we drank a lot of beers. Mrs. SLB & Cal got home from camping around 7:30 this morning, saw all of the beer cans and asked me how many people were over last night. I threw a bunch of them in the recycling already too. :bag:
That means you really like the guy. One of my best friends moved to Florida when I was 22. We see each other maybe every 3-4 years or so. Everytime I see him it seems like we have never been apart. We pick right up like I saw him yesterday.
 For sure. He is a year older than me and was definitely somebody I looked up to and modeled myself after. Sad thing is he has had a really tough life. His little sister died in a car accident 6-7 years ago, really glad I made the wake as hard as it was. Now his older brother that is 48 has colon cancer. Again, seriously guys, get a colonoscopy. In the last 5 years I've had two friends die of colon cancer and another that survived it but his life has been dramatically changed for the worst.

My hope is Joe Bryant gets sick and tired of monitoring GMTAN to the point where he finally comes to his senses and pulls the plug on the entire FFA. So I hope you keep pushing him. Maybe you'll convince him I'm right finally.
Beej, you are more than welcome here. We've never turned anybody away or snubbed them. We share stories about our life both good & bad. We sometimes ask for advice and we sometimes just need to vent. We look for a shoulder to lean on when times get really tough and we have fun when they are not. The most important thing though is we've all become closer as people, dare I say friends. The "cool kids"? No. We're a bunch of deviants that have just found each other is all.I think you are an interesting person to say the least and would love to learn more about you. If you would like to participate in that, please consider yourself welcome with open arms. If you just want to bomb throw, well, man, there are plenty of threads for that.
So you're saying Tanner is allowed to firebomb threads I like, but if I post in here in ways that is unacceptable, that's not cool. That's probably not how it will go.
You can bomb throw in here all you want. It doesn't really move the meter, though. See Imp, The. :shrug:And Tanner is a drunk old cook who takes a bus to play video slots.
I'm not trying to shut down a bus in San Jose or whatever he's from, so I don't care about that. I'm trying to shut down the FFA.
He's from Buttinwillow, CA. The only bus they have in town is currently ferrying half the town to Vegas for the weekend, so you won't hear from him today. And if you shut down the FFA, won't it just spring back to life somewhere else on the innertubes? I mean, if all we are is just an amalgamation or manifestation from the ghosts of message boards past, then won't we just exist in another form? Might as well just find a way to shut down the whole net, man.

I know it's a phase, but my wife if convinced this is the result of something that has happened to him recently.

I have some weird #### along these lines as well with my 2.5 year old.

Again, seriously guys, get a colonoscopy.
I'm going to see if my insurance covers this. If so, I'm getting this as often as possible.
You should get one even if it doesn't. I don't think they are that expensive. The results of the first exam will determine how often you need to get them in the future.

Did you recently get him a new bed? lol

I'm sure it is nothing, GB. I would guess that he is having bad dreams.

This is only for those of you in the "We support MS research" clique, the rest of you can skip past it.

This past Saturday was my MS bike ride. My 4 person team was able to raise over $2600 thanks to the generous donations from a bunch of people I have never seen in real life. As I stated earlier my plan was to do the 75 mile route and possibly the 100 miles if I was up for it. Well my bike had different ideas. Two miles into the ride the back wheel started to develop a wobble caused by the nuts holding it on backing out. Two hours later I was finally able to get back to the starting area and get a mechanic to fix it. Due to this two hour delay I opted for the 35 mile route so I would end up on schedule with everyone else on the ride. Over the final few miles my front wheel started to develop the same wobble so I limped over the finish line.

Team Fig Newton (me on left)

Two miles in

Last night I was at my nephew's birthday party and both my mom and my sister asked me who all the people were I got to donate with the weird names.

Thanks again for the donations, my cousin is also very grateful and appreciative of your support.

Keep up the good work Jimtanners!!

Sorry to hear about your nuts.

Spent the weekend in the San Juan Islands. Saw, Orcas, seals, went kayaking, ate ridiculously good local island produce and seafood and got home in under 3 hours. GB the PNW.

Are colonoscopies and prostate exams similar? Can you get both done at once?
Replace the finger of the prostrate exame with a foot long fiber optic camera and, yes, they are the same. I haven't had either yet and my doc says that prostate problems can now be detected via bloodwork. Colonscopy is still a good idea if you have any kind of unusual BM activity.

I just got a horrible phone call. One of my clients, that is also a very good friend, like a lot of my clients are, was in a terrible car accident over the weekend. His wife & SIL died. SIL just married his daughter last year. I've talked to this guy on an almost daily basis for ten years. I'm in total shock right now.

That's horrible Bob. Morbid curiosity, but any details? Were they wearing seatbelts? Don't know what's worse, everyone belted up and the accident is so bad they still are killed or not doing that one simple thing that could have saved their lives.

The CFO just called to tell me. They haven't even told their employees yet. They are from Texas and where headed to Colorado for a two week vacation. He's in a hospital in Colorado Springs right now. That's all I know.

Thanks man. I'm going for a long walk.

GM> just saw that dryer vent pic. You better pull the dryer out and vacuum out the duct.
Seriously. Was that flaghoople's work?
Yeah. She says she was doing rugs/towels/blankets prior to the move out and that she 'always' cleans out the lint trap. She did her best to leave the house in absolute tatters. She left the garage full of her crap. She's borderline hoarder. I spent all day organzing/cleaning out the garage. My sinuses are in horrible shape after inhaling years and years of bad dust and crap. My kingdom for my packed away Netti Pot...I sound ridiculous when I talk.
