GM's thread about nothing (44 Viewers)

As many times as I think it's been explained I still don't understand the meat raffle.
30 tickets. $1 a piece. Spin a wheel. Winning number gets to pick whatever meat that's still left they want. Steaks, bacon, pork chops, ribs, crab legs, etc. Pretty simple, and you'd ####### love it.
Who's giving away all this meat for $30 total? Are there 30 spots on the wheel?
Yes. 30 spots on the wheel. You're basically paying 30-1 odds to win at 30-1/25-1/20-1 depending on how early in the raffle it is and where you are. Some places have a couple of steak packets or whatever where you're probably getting even odds. By the end there might be 4 lbs. of ground beef as the prize and you'd be like ####. A smart and lame man would just find the best meat raffles and load up on the early pulls to maximize the chances of getting some good ####. More fun to just play along and drink beer. Seriously. TRE's two wins tonight were for $20 gift cards, which means $30 was paid in overall. Win for charity, win for TRE. You'd love this. Anybody would. How this is still a one state phenomenom is beyond me.
Seriously still not following.Could you lay out the process in steps?
I'm guessing it goes like this:1. Start with 30 meat items available2. Sell 30 tickets for $1 each3. Spin the wheel4. Winner selects desired prize, 29 meat items remain6. Sell 30 tickets for $1 each7. Spin the wheel... and so onSo by the time the raffle is over, they've taken in $900 for 30 items.

Trevor ‏@TREtanic @zackcozart who is your favorite Star Wars character? I'm asking for a nerdy ifriend. TIA #reds #shuke
Dude. I've already emailed the organization with a complaint about the setup and was hoping they'd give us some private meeting. Now he sees this he's going to think it's some hoax.
OK Capt Serious.
Guess whose son received an autographed 8x10 of Zack Cozart in the mail today? :coffee:Also, guess whose ####head mailman folded the envelope to stuff it in the mailbox.
Time to email the post office I guess.

Met up with Cos yesterday for some lunchtime blackjack. We're chatting along, talking about things to do in new orleans and I mention a cocktail tour...but probably best to do it at night b/c it's so damn hot. Cos mentions "Yeah, I'm not much of a day drinker"A few hands go by and the waitress comes along:Cos: "Give me a half kaluha/half coffee"me: "I thought you weren't a day drinker"Cos: "Kaluha's not really alcohol, just more of a cream":lmao:Also, first time in my life I saw someone have 5 separate bets off of one hand:Cos gets dealts 2 8s...split...another 8...split....another 8...split...gets a 3...double down....only ended up winning +1u on the bet, but still pretty cool
I once got dealt 4 straight 9s against a dealer's upcard 9. I think I ended up with the first two as 19s, then got a 2 to make 11 and DD to make a 21, and I don't remember the other hand but it wasn't good. Net +1u when dealer turned over a 19.

Close. There's more like 10-15 meat related items and they pull in $30 a round. Depending on how busy it is you can buy multiple $1 tickets per round.

Twice you've posted about finding a pick on mobile uploads, and twice I can't find it. Is this only visible to special friends?

Recap from my weekend: Bunbury Music Festival in Cincinnati, so listened to lots of really good music. In addition to the music...Friday: drank from noon til 11p. Ran into 3 different girls that I've recently been having teh sechs with... Including two at the same time. :wall:Saturday: had my daughter from 9a-2p, including a party for a 6 year old and then drank from 3p-11p. FWB discussed the idea of a threesome with her and one of her girl friends. I passed for now and got drunk with my buddySunday: drank from 12p-1a. Sealed the deal with my friend's sister that was in town
So, the girl from Sunday night lives in Houston. She's flying me down this weekend to help her celebrate her birthdayI feel like I'm going to a meat raffle, only i'm the meat and she bought all the tickets

Sell 30 tickets for $1 each7. Spin the wheel... and so onSo by the time the raffle is over, they've taken in $450 for 15 items.

It's one winner per round, right? So 30 tickets, 1 winner. 10-15 rounds./Updated steps

Right, except for some places will pull a second number for a free drink or free pizza or something. Like a consolation prize each round.

Gonna pile on the baby thing, I Just found out I got my 2nd on the way while my first is just 8 months old. So I'll see you guys here and the drunk thread (that still around? maybe I'll just see Stryker there, I think he's te mod) for the next 9 months, after that I'll be MIA again.

Next year I'm planting my full salad in my garden. I have tomatoes, broccoli, green/red peppers & cucumbers. Need spinach and carrots next year.
how long does it take to grow? And how big of a setup do you have? I go through green/red peppers and onions like crazy
We had a really warm winter so I had everything in the beginning of April. I was harvesting broccoli in the beginning of June of course I planted too much so I'm freaking lousy with it. You cut it at an angle and it just keeps coming back.

I started getting tomatoes towards the end of June but the extremely hot weather really zapped them. It cooled off a bit for a few days and I have a ton of them now. I've started giving them away last week so they wouldn't go to waste.

The cucumbers were ready at the end of May. The things are incredible, it's like they just appear out of nowhere. I only planted one and that is more than enough for our family with plenty to give away.

The peppers got stunted like the tomatoes but are making a good come back. I've only gotten 3 off of the two plants, I plan on doubling the number next year.

I planted onions but they didn't turn out despite following the directions, I don't think they were deep enough.

I also have Oregano & Rosemary planted and I guess they are pretty much weeds too because it just grows like mad.

It's a fairly decent sized garden but I wish it were bigger still. I'll post a pic later.

thx...does it need to have direct sunlight, or would it work in the shade?

Let's say hypothetically that I might be in MSP during the last weekend in July. Where might I be able to attend a meat raffle? Would there also be a Zantigo within walking distance?ETA: You look a lot different when you drink and drive
Good lord. Do I have to stare at that picture cross-eyed for ten minutes before I see the secret image? :loco:

A lot of veggies like peppers, tomatoes, etc. do better in full sun or mostly sun. Just make sure you keep them watered (sometimes you have to water at least once a day).

Some made up thing. Best not to ask.
So your whole Minnesota thing was shtick?
I left in '96. "Meat raffles" were apparently underground operations back then.
Makes sense. They've just exploded in the last 2-3 years. Used to be you had to go to NE Mpls to partake, now pretty much every bar has at least one a week.

I noticed that he has 37 mobile uploads but when you go into them, there are only 24 visible. Fish - maybe you daughter can help you learn how to use the innerwebz

Do the bars make a decent profit off these?

My guess is that anybody who goes to a meat raffle is going to be drinking heavily while they do it. Packed house full of drinkers? I'd bet they do pretty well.

Up here in the northwest they do pub trivia nights. It's a lot of fun, and seems to pack out the bars on a weeknight pretty well.

Can only be done in cold climates. The Potato Salad Raffles of Shreveport, LA of aught-seven made sure of that.

I see fancy food trucks all over the place around town but they never make it to our business park. This makes me angry and sad. And horny.

Cal is making my parents watch him and his brother Saturday night, God bless that boy, so I think we're going to check this place out.

I heard today on the radio it was voted the second best roof top bar in the world. Menu looks good.

Just found out it's only here on Thursdays - which is good, because I won't be too tempted and on Thursdays I get in early so usually have to opt for a cold breakfast and making my lunch or a hot breakfast and buying my lunch here. From now on, I will be having hot breakfasts on Thursdays and delicious flatbread sandwiches for lunch.

I'm on my fourth beer in the last 90 minutes. I have to spend four hours behind the glass watching focus groups tonight, so I'm trying to make it tolerable.
