GM's thread about nothing (30 Viewers)

Finished a lengthy, draining arbitration today. Our case centered around a claim that a product that is installed in millions of homes is defective. There are numerous cases in half a dozen states being litigated on the same issue, as well as a nationwide class action pending certification. Because we had a little different approach at it and we ended up in arbitration, rather than in a court, our case is the first in the nation to be completed. We won't get an award for 30 days. If we win, we're the leading attorneys in the nation on this issue. If we lose, we pretty much screw everyone else. I'm taking two days off to spend time decompressing and getting drunk.
I've never believed in the Flowbee.

you know anything about metallurgy? I just spent three weeks doing direct and cross exam of metallurgical engineers. It was actually pretty fascinating.

Portland is a city that is so starved for real news that one of the lead stories tonight was about a man in St. Louis who stabbed another over a bag of Cheetohs (sp?). Hoping it wasn't STLB that got the stab.

I'm pretty sure he's got enough rewards points from the hospital that his next stay is free.

Well, as a fake chemical engineer, I certainly pretend to.

I'd really like to figure out whether my expert or theirs was full of it, but my liberal arts education didn't cover the analysis of stresses in nine orthogonal planes. go figure.

My wife is a paralegal and suggested that I become an expert in her field of litigation. We decided that selling my soul was probably not the best career move.

My guy is a professor at UW; theirs is a PhD from the Colorado School of Mines. They both make at least twice what I make serving as litigation experts on the side. What's your soul worth?

Found out this morning that HR's response to my boss's request to give small (less than $10K) spot-bonuses to three of my team was that we should give them some extra time off (not possible as they don't get a chance to take the vacation they already have) and maybe some "restaurant gift certificates".Then two of my paralegals got into a loud shouting match with each other in full earshot of several people. Then another of my paralegals quit.Banner day, really.
Why anyone would want to work in HR is beyond me. Such a dead end lifeless job. You ask them a question that may force creativity or actual thinking on their end and it is instantly "No.".

My Dad has PhD in Metallurgical Engineering and was head of Bethlehem Steel's research division for 20 years. Ask me anything.

That's pretty foolish because it actually works as advertized.
