GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

Thopras, congrats, etc. to all who need them. Just way too behind in this thread.

One of my crazy paralegals had gone to take care of her mom on Long Island last week. Mom was committed to a mental institution and is now dying. Now, I haven't heard from the paralegal since Monday. In other words, things no more sane here than ever.

Where's Guster?
:hey:
Oh hey, GB. Just on my quick scan through seemed like you were absent.

Tell me a long story about this teenager you're dating.

Is anyone else here friends with sweet j on FB? I wish he was around here more, because I don't really have a feel for how he would react to me friending his sister after today.

I was friends with his brother for a bit until he (the brother) defriended me. :kicksrock: Was friends with the brother at J's invite because we were all going to be in DC for the inauguration. Also, his brother was hot.

Just had a conversation with Ricky Rubio.

Me: "How's the knee"

Ricky: "Eees-a berry good man. I canna wait to shoot-a da balls."

Me: "Right on."
Fixed.
Yeah there was an accent.
Why is it that baseball players from Spain who have played over here for years and years still can't understand English when spoken to them? Rubio has been over here for less than a year and he speaks the King's English. What gives?
Huge list

I would totally pretend to vote for whomever wins in order to go to an inauguration with her.

I'm doing one of my semi-annual rituals: combing through each and every Detroit homicide

I look at victim age, circumstance, cause of death, whether the suspect was arrested and then look at a google map street view of the house. None on the street I grew up on this year! :banned:

In related news I saw a guy pepper sprayed and beaten down by the po-po in front of my house last night. Guy was driving a stolen car and spit in a cop's face. He was yelling, "If you let me go now, I won't tell anyone you guys beat me." lol

Apparently he stole the car from some guy who stole something from him at some point. Very good retribution logic there, Southern Maryland is so refined.

Friending ifriend siblings seems like a line that shouldn't be crossed, but it is fascinating.

It's amazing how similar our upbringings were. Here's a map of the street I grew up on.

Had a really awkward conversation with ex-future-ex-mrs. fish. We basically broke up over not seeing eye-to-eye about parenting stuff. We made a half-hearted attempt to try to see if we could work things out, but it was clear that it wouldn't work. Today I let her know that it's never going to work, and I'm done talking about it.

I told her that I think her daughter is on the autism spectrum and she should get her evaluated. She flipped out. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure I'm right. I have a friend with two ASD kids, and I've learned a whole bunch from her about the warning signs for parents. This kid has a lot of red flags. Mom's in complete denial that her kid has any issues, but the daughter just started kindergarten and already got put in a group that meets at lunch with a counselor and the principal because of inappropriate behavior in the classroom.

I know I wouldn't take it well if someone told me there was something "off" about my daughter, but I was around this girl for 6 months and she's definitely got some problems. Mom's just too defensive to admit that they exist.
A good high school friend of mine has a daughter who I'm sure has Asberger's. I don't see them much, maybe once a year, but I keep saying to myself "something is just off here." Her speech was so slow to develop and even when it did, she had this weird way of talking and strange personality. By the time she hit 7 there was just no way to believe this was a normally developing girl. I've never discussed it with them for many of the reasons you mention, but is this just what people do? It's not like he's an acquaintance. I've known this guy since junior high. You'd think he'd tell me what's going on. I suppose there could be some latent shame or something (no reason for it, but I could see that being a natural reaction), but it puts me in a weird position when I can tell something is up yet they never speak to it.
some people just don't like to talk about anything that "reflects negatively" or "shows signs of weakness" on them. I've been very open our Mrs. TF and I's inability to create a child without modern science and a large bag of cash (or as my Mom would like to call it "God's little miracle babies")...but we have friends who have the same issues who jsut don't talk about it at all, like they're some kind of failure

TF - The good thing about kids like ours is that it makes the CBA of the replacement cost for them pretty easy in those moments when you consider drowning them in the bathtub for the way they've acted that day.

Interestingly, they have been very forthcoming about details on a range of other health issues. They too struggled to get pregnant, although the details were a bit murky. She had some kind of unnamed surgery to correct something and still no luck for another year or so. They started to look at IVF then suddenly she got pregnant. It wasn't the easiest pregnancy, and for whatever reason they were dissuaded from trying again.I guess now that I think of it, they have been pretty vague on a lot of these things. Funny thing is that they both trumpeted to the hilltops that she had a boob job. Found that amusing, not that you can hide something like that. But then, you can't really hide the fact that your kid is having some developmental issues. I know that people feel somehow responsible for things that are well outside their control, but I feel like an idiot being left out of the loop and not knowing how to engage them on it. I mean, I could be completely wrong I suppose, but it doesn't seem very likely.

I have one of those too. 4 iui and 2 ivfs. Only problem is that all the hormones made my ex insane.

Do you want to punch your mom for her complete lack of logic there?

20-somethings..once again proving to be my most reasonable friends. thanks for introducing me to the former bartender at the place we were at tonight.

So I'm officially NECK BRACE FREE!!!! Well, for now anyway. Doc told me not to throw the neck brace away and I replied I won't. Only for him to say, no seriously. Start rehab next Wednesday, although I feel fine honestly. All of the exercising I've been doing has paid off. I need to get x-rays again in two months from now too just to make sure I'm 100%.

Oh yeah, plus I can drive. But no high impact activity. Guess I'll have to put off returning punts in the NFl and my body building aspirations awhile longer.

Mrs. SLB started crying after the doctor left the room. Apparently she was hoping I would have to wear the brace longer. She's worried something is going to happen to me. I'm guessing it makes her feel secure knowing I'm under house arrest. So kind of a Misery thing going on here. If I end up with broken legs, you'll know why.

Thanks for the well wishes and good luck on the job Fishes.

SK, now you need to get better.
Great news, Bart!

Sorry to hear that your wife loves you and doesn't want anything bad to happen to you

Nice tracts of land
