GM's thread about nothing (22 Viewers)

I have a confession. My wife and I do not have a social life. Between me coaching 2 sports and having 4 children all involved in some sort of activity, we have no time, or desire to have a social life. We used to do stuff with friends on the weekends but that was years ago. Now our weekends are filled with going to some game or practice or school function. Even though some of these things are want to do's, most are have to do's.

Coaching football and baseball takes up the better part of 10 months a year, with the middle of November to the middle of January my time "off". When we do have time with nothing to do, we prefer to do nothing.

I see that the FBG life is filled with bars, video games, wild women and song. I have become an outsider, but I know I am not alone!!

Who else is socially stunted? Don't be afraid!
:hey: But I like it that way. I would prefer to sit and drink beer in my own house and grill something or watch tv over just about any "social" activity available.
From the sounds of things you don't function to well in social situations, gb.
I'm actually very good in social situations. I can talk about most anything and have a good joke/story/fact/yarn to spin for just about any situation. But I also know how to listen and not be the guy that tries to top other people's stories. I just don't often like being around other people.I happen to think that if I weren't married with a kid I could probably go weeks at a time without speaking out loud to anyone in a social way (aside from thanking the person bagging my groceries or whatever).

I'm not anti-drinker but I don't drink at home
do you think it's pathetic?
having a couple beers/drinks - no ( i crack a beer or two on Sundays)drinking every night with large volumes - little bit

This is only home alone with the family... People over, out somewhere I'm all in for getting snotted
every night with large volumes is drinking with a capital Dthat's not exactly normal behavior.

My domestic situation is almost the exact opposite of yours. No kids, wife (twice divorced), or social obligations to speak of. And yet, I don't have much more of a social life than you do. There are a few reasons why (work, med issues), but mostly it's by choice. I date when I feel like it's worth the bother, don't when I don't. I grew up in bars - they bore me anymore unless there's a reason to be there besides "it's a bar w/booze & women" (that had a good 30+ year run, though). I'm just as happy with a good book, good music, and good booze sitting in my Fat Chair as I am anything. One of the biggest differnces between us, though, is I can pick up anytime I want and take off. Going to Nicaragua in a week and am attending Coshole in February. The other big difference is that you have the awesome experience of kids (I had a step-daughter but that ended when the marriage did).

We made some new friends recently. They live around the corner from us.

The suburbs can be tough.
You have sex with them yet?
Well, I suppose there couldn't be any wacky baby mix-ups, given that they're both pregnant already.
I didn't know this, congrats GB! Romo knock your wife up too?
I think this one's all me.
Hope it comes out like this GB.

Semi-Official Uruk-Tumor Update:

Had some photos taken the other day and it appears that Dean Krzyzewski (my pet name for this *******, named after my two most-hated ACC coaches) MAY have shrunk a tad. Lucy Liu (I wish  ) still wants to nuke me come January (since I ain't doing it before then), but wants to ramp it up. Looking at a 5-day, 3 week blast of gamma rays. No biggie, as radiation doesn't do much more than make me a little tired (& I suspect some of that is mental).

Anyway, the following is a partial transcript of our conversation:

Lucy: Lump appears to have gotten smaller

Uruk:  What's next?

Lucy: Radiation and we will see after that

Uruk: Doc, tell me straight - do you think all of the drugs and alcohol I've ingested may have scared the #### out of the cancer?

Lucy: I will see you in five weeks

This. I have no problem drinking when I am out or when people are over.I am not anti-drinker, but I am not going to apologize for not wanting to drink by myself in front of children.
You said you believe it's pathetic to drink at home.#1 What if you drink when your kids are asleep or not home?#2 What if you don't have kids?Beer is delicious. Why would kids care if you enjoy a tasty beverage in moderation? You're not driving anywhere. Seems like a good example to set for them.

You do know that not everything is about you. Kidding, I think it's pathetic when I drank(sp?) at home by myself. More guilt than anything. That and when my middle son, who is now 11, said that he wished I would not drink around him.

Sounds better than getting loaded and crashing a car and getting a DUI.

You'd think a place right across the border in WA with massive tax incentives would have some decent development and options for the non white trash set.
Yeah, you'd think. To be fair, there are some pretty nice spots. Schools are very good in parts and you can get a really nice home for the money. There are some good restaurants on the river and they have tried to breathe some life into the downtown area, but it still sucks as a whole. There is a lot more Whiskey Tango scattered about, rendering any decent pockets pretty sketchy by comparison to what you'd find in Portland. There aren't any quaint neighborhoods like you have in Portland or Seattle. And again, the idea that you'd just live there and buy everything in Portland goes out the window the first time you try to cross over the bridge with heavy traffic. You might think you'd just jump over to Portland to buy a loaf of bread, but an hour and 15 minutes and 10 miles later and you'd be changing your tune.Like I said, I was there for nearly two years and the place was just....creepy. Plus, that drive across the bridge after a night of bar hopping is much longer than it is heading to the bars. I'm lucky I...well let's just say I'm lucky. There is something very excellent about being able to take the light rail home at night in 20 minutes or having a $20-$30 cab ride tops.
I was more thinking you could make a run to Costco and/or a grocery store on the weekends to stock up. Plus, you could do your clothes shopping and stuff across the border once in awhile. Seems like the savings would be significant. When I stayed up at the Red Lion near the bridge, the drive into downtown Portland didn't seem bad at all so all those restaurants would be close by.Wouldn't make much sense to drive 15 minutes or longer for a loaf of bread to save a dime on the tax.I don't know what the housing situation up there is, but I figure there are probably others doing the same thing. If it's not more developed and popular, that area must really suck to live in. I could see the bridge traffic getting annoying, but most people that live in the suburbs and commute into the city each day have to deal with traffic (Seattle is horrible for this).
You wouldn't be the first to do it. I gave it a whirl. I just like living in Portland more than I liked living in Vancouver. :shrug:But lot's of people do it.

So i was diagnosed yesterday with Sixth Cranial Nerve palsy. Basically double vision due to weak muscles in my right eye because of a vascular event. Anyone have any experience with this? I asked if wearing a neck brace would alleviate my symptoms. My humorless Asian neurologist said no. My wife looked at me like I was crazy.
As of this past Tuesday I'm cured. Damndest thing. Neuro guy said I was one of his faster recoveries. He said it was an early xmas present. I said are you allowed to say xmas to your patients? He said, I can say anything I damn well want to, good luck! The eye thing really freaked me out. I'm down 15#'s since Halloween. Working out 3 days a week and eating my veggies. That cruise over xmas is gonna kill me.
 cool!

Page 1963. What will JFK and SLB's female coworker have in common?

:lmao: :lmao:This is a rep. See, when I started in this business 20 years ago, I had a client that needed a furniture line I couldn't get. So I looked in the Yellow Pages, found somebody that did, and called them up. Got this gal's husband, worked out a deal and both made a little money. Since then my company and his have done dozens of jobs. But he sucked at communication and working so he punted to his wife. We clicked because we both are detailed oriented and just like getting stuff done. Closing the deal. She always gave me this vibe though and she sells to my GB/client's company too and he said the same thing. This isn't some hot broad with giant cans trying to influence, I see that #### a mile away. This has been building for a good 7 years. I'm going to go jam my penis in the shredder now.
of all the places you should stick it, this is probably like 10th or 11th on your 'should do' list.

Thanks, Gusher & Hocks. She's a stereotypical Chinese "nose-to-the-grindstone" type of lady with zero sense of humor. I was gonna make a joke about her driving, but will wait til I'm either done for or know I've got a chance.

I should note that the goalie's enthusiasm was more for the opportunity to carry life, and less so for the act to make that happen.
