A whole ton of Pearl Jam ones:

Sonic Reducer
I don't care if this post is months old, but it is too horrific to fail to mention. Rocket from the Tombs kicked more ### in the first wave of their brief, under-documented existence than two decades worth of Vedder's affected, sheep-like bleating. Almost no band on earth has come up with anything as singularly awesome as "Sonic Reducer" and it sure as scrotum hasn't been improved upon by Pearl Jam.

Your opinion on this matter is incorrect. You are a poor judge of aesthetic execution and artistic intention and you are therefore, by extension, a bad person.

Shame on you. Be better.
To be fair, he's 100% correct and you are 0% correct.
I've never heard of Rocket from the Tombs nor Sonic Reducer. Must check out.
RFTC existed in Cleveland from 74-75, before disbanding. Guitarists Dave Thomas and Peter Laughner went on to form Pere Ubu, while Cheetah Chrome started the Dead Boys. Both bands early sets included RFTC songs: Pere Ubu released "30 Seconds over Tokyo" as a single, the Dead Boys did "Sonic Reducer." Thomas and Chrome weren't the only songwriters though, Peter Laughner's "Amphetamine" is as great as any rock anthem, and was shamelessly stolen by Jeff Tweedy for the Wilco song "Misunderstood." Laughner died in 1977.There were no studio recordings of the original RFTC, but The Day the Earth Met Rocket from the Tombs collects a bunch of live bootlegs. They got back together in the early 00's for a one-off tour (I was lucky enough to see them in Chicago--they were great) with Television's Richard Lloyd replacing Laughner. The shows were documented on the excellent Rocket Redux.
I think you mean RFTT? RFTC would be Rocket from the Crypt. Used to love that band. :headbang:
Yeah I don't know what the hell. The only thing those bands have in common is their name.

I'm pretty much cool on my own. But just to put your mind at ease I've been hating Christmas since you were dipping your Snoopy Zebco reel in the kiddy pond.
I'm from Minnesota, dick. Our Zebcos were just miniature versions of adult reels, none of that cutesie-wootsie garbage.

Oops. Sorry.I'm from California where we have other things to do. My bad.

Three hours ago I left the house to pick up the Christmas decorations form the storage unit which is about five minutes from the house. Somehow I ended up drunk and just made it back. I think that telling my neighbor that I needed help carrying the boxes and then picking up an 18 pack at the corner store on the way may have had something to do with it.

Oh come on.Chive girl is amazing. She doesn't seem real.

Saw some bluegrass band on Conan the other night which is odd because I never watch Conan and I'm not a huge bluegrass guy. But these Punch Brothers were pretty good. Not a Mumford & Sons fan by any stretch, but they had that sort of twang, only the guy could really sing.
They do a couple cool Radiohead covers. I'm not really into the Mumford & Sons either, but I like the Punch Brothers.

Isn't Rocket from the Crypt a completely different band? I am confused.

Punch Brothers >>>> Mumford & Sons It's actually insane to me that Punch Brothers aren't world famous. Chris Thile is one of the most amazing musicians I've ever seen.

Difficult to say. There are so many iterations of GBV that they are probably beyond my likes and dislikes. I'll say this: I saw the "classic" line-up play Bela K's birthday party in Columbus in 94 or so and, being far too sober for that particular horrorshow, (I was only 18 at the time) I didn't think much of it, despite adoring the "I Am a Scientist" single that had just been released on Matador. Thought it was all a bunch of old-dude inde-rock inside jokes from a make-believe band, and I was probably right. (That show is documented on the bootleg Crying Your Knife Away.)

Saw them a few months later after Under the Bushes Under the Stars came out and they were great. A year after that: Mag Earwhig! and Guided By Voices was actually Bob Pollard fronting Cobra Verde. They played Little Brothers on my 21st birthday and I tried to match Bob Pollard Bud for Bud. Cobra Verde opened the show and played 4 Death of Samantha songs. I passed out in the men's room before GBV's third encore.

I still play Vampire on Titus, Propeller, Alien Lanes, and Bee Thousand from time to time. Nothing else of theirs really does much for me. Those four records, of course, comprise less than 2% of their output. Tobin Sprout has never written a bad song.

Dumb joke re: blackberry. I'll probably be the last guy on earth to buy an iphone. I have a 16GB chip in my blackberry that holds most of my music and that's what I use to listen to new tunes. I downloaded a Punch Brothers album the other day and am on a quest for more. Really impressed by what I've heard so far.

ninja/beersnob>if you're ever down in this area, there's a new place in Tacoma called Pint Defiance...they stock 600 different craft beers. Opened about a month or so ago.

It has been way too long since you and I have thrown back a couple bourbons or played a round of golf.

Bring the wife down. She can meet the on again/off again future ex-Mrs. Fish. Or Knuckles, depending on what week it is. Or leave the wimmenfolk home and we can get properly drunk.

Dude, I don't even know how to do that. I started a thread a few weeks ago asking if I should get my wife an ipod if she already has a droid. I still don't know. Someone help me here with easy to follow bullet points. If my wife wants to buy/rip music in mp3 format and listen either on her droid or a speaker, what would she need to do?

on a droid, download doubletwist on your computer and get the app on the phone. it will duplicate your itunes playlists on your computer and will sync with a droid the same way itunes syncs with an ipod or iphone.

That's it? So anyone who has a smart phone has no need for an ipod?

pretty much. doubletwist is awesome. free and easy to use. I switched from droid to iphone, so I don't know what they've improved in the update, but the only thing I ever had a problem with was sometimes I would accidentally duplicate a playlist when I first started using it.

I'm the last guy you want dispensing tech advice. But I bought a $20 chip about the size of an infant's toenail and put it in my phone. This chip holds 16GB, which is more than enough to house most of my music...or at least the music I still care to listen to. Once you rip (?) a CD to your computer, it is in a transferable file that you can copy/paste into your phone when you hook it up to your computer through the UBS port. Or something. I'm a moron and yet I have about 1800 songs on my phone and that's what I use to listen to music when I bike home.
