GM's thread about nothing (43 Viewers)

Ventured into the Gun Buyers Anonymous thread again tonight. I think Mad Cow might have about $100k in arms stockpiled in his Utah compound.
His Game Rig thread has a lot of posts too...scared to even open that one.
Yeah, he buys a new PC every couple of months to play 50 games that are in his queue. I think he also has his own business and 15 children. I don't know if sleep factors in or not. He must be perennial Worst Father/Husband of the Year candidate.

Does he have to walk diagonally or is that someone else?

Oh, that too.

Alright, I need some help on a present idea for my parents.

With Thanksgiving being focused around my mom, my day's birthday (65th) was pretty much neglected.

He's also retiring in early January - my dad is the HR manager over multiple locations in the northeast and typically works from ~5am to ~5pm and has done so for the past 15+ years. On top of that he is very active in the Knights of Columbus and was the head guy in the state for the last 2 years and now is taking on more of a national level roll. So he stays super super busy...busier than I could ever imagine.

My mom's birthday is in early January as well, so it would be good to have at least something relevant to her as well.

With all that and Christmas, I feel like I have to do something big for him/them.

When they were out here for thanksgiving, my dad mentioned that they had this wine at a restaurant and both loved it, but they can't find it in stores. He even sent me that picture in an email with "great wine" as the subject. So I feel like I need to get a case of that or something for them.

My dad also loves cribbage and enjoys the occasional glass of bourbon and a nice cigar. The thing is, I had been getting him bottles of Woodford for any occasion (that's my go to because I took him on a tour for his 60th birthday and I don't know when the last time was that I saw him enjoy himself that much), but when I was home earlier this year, I saw that he still had one full one and almost all of another bottle.

They are also very devout Catholics, so things relevant to that or the Knights of Columbus would probably excite them.

I'm not loaded by any means (child support, :bye: ) but could swing something in the $200-300 range

So...any thoughts?

1996....the year I packed everything I owned in my black Inegra, bid farewell to my college GF, friends and family and drove 2,000 miles to Oregon. Was only going to stay for a couple of years tops, move back to Texas, marry my college GF and...well, that just never happened. I fell in love with the dreary weather.
What was the reason for moving to Oregon? I mean besides wanting to visit the childhood home of Steve Prefontaine.
I got a job offer from Case Tractors to be an auditor. The position came with two choices: Move to Memphis, TN (which is only 2ish hours north of where I went to college and though I had some great times there, I just didn't want to move there) or Portland, OR (which I'd never seen, knew nothing about and was pretty sure I'd need to grow a beard in order to fit into its lumberjack culture). I knew a lot of people in Memphis and probably would have loved living there, but at 23, I was kind of ready for an adventure. The job would require extensive regional travel and I wasn't very interested in hitting local tractor dealerships in the greater Mississippi/Tennessee area. Moving to Portland meant 3 trips a year to Alaska, 4 trips a year to the Bay Area, Reno, Seattle and every single little farm town in Eastern Oregon/Washington. In the history of tractor auditors, I might have been THE worst of all time. My boss worked out of Dallas, so I had a 'home office', a perk that I abused like Homer being asked to Sheppard over a full bar. I did about 25% of the actual work required for the job, made friends with many of the dealers despite the fact that I was supposed to be a jerkwad money collector and used to just make stuff up on my inventory reports. I was horrendous. I should have been fired 6 months into the job, but my Dealer's were all making their payments, my inventories checked out and so I lasted about 2.5 years before my poor work ethic caught up to me. My boss flew into Portland to meet with me one evening and I forgot to pick him up at the airport. And it wasn't a case of just being a little late, no. I was up in Seattle trying to convert a lesbian over to the other side. Whoops. I was also supposed to call customers who had tractors out on lease/loan to verify their whereabouts. I never called anybody, despite detailing in my report conversations I had with them. He started calling them himself and asked if they talked to me. Whoops. And I misstated the hour readings on a few used tractors that one of my dealers took in on trade. By a few hundred hours. :bag:But I got laid a lot. I had a hook-up in most of the towns I would visit. I got to see all kinds of cool places, try new things, party like an auditor. I racked up all sorts of frequent flyer miles and hotel perks and used them for mini-vacations to San Diego, Vegas and anywhere in between. I learned that I liked the west coast a whole lot better than other spots of the country.

 I had been looking on eBay a bit, but a quick glance on etsy looks more promising

Sorry to anyone I texted in my intoxicated state yesterday. I got shammered tailgating/drivewaying before the California JC football championship. Drank even more at halftime with random folk tailgating in the parking lot. My team won. Got a ride home with my sister. Fell asleep on the couch watching UFC.

Chicago -3 today....

Is there a particular reason why someone shouldn't cash out their retirement accounts and go all in on this game?

I'm just glad you survived the tequila shots with the Mexicans. I enjoyed the progression of your day, though I think some of the texts I got were not meant for me. Particularly the one talking smack about Bowling Green.

I did not partake of said tequila shots. That is the one hard liquor I cannot drink. Makes my throat itchy and feel swollen. Some sort of agave allergy I suppose.

I'm unreasonably happy about YSRbaby.
:wub:There are two things I am committed to in regards to this pregnancy:1.) Try no to be that girl who talks about it all the time2.) Not "Jessica Simpson" it.
:lmao: re #2.I know we've had some GMTAN babies recently, which was already cool enough, but there's just something about having an actual Jimtanner pregnant that makes it even more exciting. Knowing you guys went through some tough times in getting to where you are makes it an especially big :)
