I need some lawyerly advice....Most of you know my mom died last year. We are finally getting around to selling the house. My sister moved out and now we are getting ready to sell.In her will she stated that the house be split between us 4 siblings. We are all good with that.Do we have to go to probate? What does this even mean? How do we go about getting the house into my sister's name who was named executor so we can sell it?Do we need a lawyer if we all agree with the will? She wasn't rich so we aren't talking about a lot of money, under $200k total if that means anything.
Sounds like you need a lawyer, chum.

Well, um, sure, well, yeah, um, OK.

That's not a difficult situation at all by estate law standards. But I wouldn't try to do it yourself. Get a recommendation for a reputable trusts and estates lawyer in your area and give them a call.

No idea.I post this just so you don't think that, as a lawyer, I'm ignoring you.
What the hell is in the GMTAN water lately? My wife is 35 weeks pregnant and has gestational diabetes so she has two different doctor visit each week. Today she had high blood pressure at both so they wanted her to go to the hospital to monitor it over night. Well it was staying high so they started talking about doing the C-section tomorrow, gave her a steroid shot to help the babies lungs develop sooner. Doctors all talked and I think the best case scenario now is that she will be in the hospital for two weeks while they continue to monitor her. IF they make it to week 37 then they will take out the baby.Normally this wouldn't be as big an issue as my parents would drop everything to take my 2 daughters during the day so I can go to work. However they are in Florida on vacation. My MIL is bat #### crazy so no way in hell I call her. My sister and the one SIL I would call to help both work during the day. I think I might have to start calling my wifes mom friends out of the blue, whom I have never met. to see if they can watch the girls during the day.I know this pales in comparison to Otis's baby related issue, but I had to do something to get it off my chest. Now back to our regularly scheduled naming of random sports players.
Sorry. :( TPW.

Seriously though, good luck man. This baby stuff can be scary as all hell.

Damn. Sorry to hear of this. TPW and best wishes coordinating the child care situation while things stabilize.

So does anyone have this flu I keep hearing about? Can someone link me to the Ham influenzalypse thread
Not yet, but I have had two different people ask me today if I have gotten a flu shot. I haven't gotten one in probably 10 years and figure that it's a little late to get one this year. Bad idea?
I'm no epidemiologist, but I think they're basically useless.
What does this have to do with butterflies?
:lmao:
Good to see you're still grinding in here.

Any if you guys ever deal with your wife having a miscarriage pretty far into pregnancy? At the hospital now. Wife is 5 months pregnant with what should be our second girl. In and out of the hospital past week or two with some seemingly minor issues, discharged yesterday after the full anatomy scan and ultrasound declaring the baby perfectly healthy. Back in the hospital tonight with my wife having contractions and going into labor. Obviously way too early to be viable. Instead of being home in bed we're listening to the nurse read us the official form which tells us that in NY state you have to bury the baby if it is beyond 20 weeks (ours is literally 20 weeks and a day today). Just awful. My poor wife has been through hell with this pregnancy. Life is ####### bull#### sometimes. I dunno. Just had to share.
Very sorry to hear, man. We went through it but nowhere near that late.

So I'm at mt drinking spot where the have live music most of the time. Usually a couple of sodomite with acoustic guitars etc. Tonight is some goob with some really cheesy backing music (like kenny G jazz) and he's playing some sort of computerize flutaphone. I mean it looks like he's having oral sex with the ******* lovechild of a universale remote and a brethalyzer. What the hell is it?
damn you're drunknice description though
Sorry, I was on my phone.Let me translate. There was a guy playing live music at the bar-type-place I frequent. Usually the musical entertainment consists of a couple of effeminate dudes playing Bread and Jack Johnson covers. Tonight there was one goober who played a bunch of songs along with a prerecorded backing track consisting of really lame rhythm and drum tracks. One of the the instruments he was playing looked like "the ******* lovechild of a universale remote and a brethalyzer". That's it I guess.

This made me sad:Yesterday we were talking about Richard Nixon since it was his 100th birthday. I asked my students if any of them knew what the "M" in Richard M. Nixon stood for. Surprisingly about 4 kids (out of the 195 I have all day long) actually knew that it stands for "Milhous".The sad part? About 75% of these kids don't know who Milhouse Van Houten is.
Did not realize that Milhouse Van Houten's middle initial is also 'M'. Without binging it ('sup GM), does anyone know what the M stands for?
Leroy Hoard?

Applied for a job about three weeks ago and got the call today that they would like to interview me...Sunday. In Boston. Had to look up the job as I didn't remember; turns out it was a fantastic job! In Portland, ME. :hey: Thorn. Thoughts?
You know...I know a lot of lawyers here in Bakersfield. In fact my old roommate owns his own firm (specializing in bankruptcy). I could put in a good word.
Well, um, sure, well, yeah, um, OK.
Why you gotta be a soc?

cos - what's the contingency plan if you can't sell all the squares?
Too early to discuss or it may impede sales. Gotta start out confident. But we could do splits, lower price, or give refunds, If action is light next week, we may drop it down to 25 > 250/500/250/1500

Keeping in mind that I'm not a probate or an estate planning attorney...The purpose of a probate is to open a proceeding in which all creditors and claimants to any of the estate's assets are given the opportunity to make a claim. If you don't do that, you run the risk of someone - a distant cousin or a lienholder or God-knows-who-else - turning up at a later date and filing a lawsuit. I'd talk to a probate attorney just to make sure everything's cool.

Had my daughter for a bit after work. Her mom picked her up around 7:30 and then I put in ~2 hours of work. Since then I've had a beer and 3/4 of a bottle of wine. :banned: :banned: :banned:

TRE - big fight at the Bierstube tonight. Cops and everything.
Somebody disrespect somebody else's ice fishing shanty?
I don't know. I went to Rainbow (local grocery store) to get some Johnsonville Old World Recipe Summer Sausage and Ritz Crackers to go with the Tillamook Cheddar we have (also picked up a 2-liter of R.C. Cola because why not and some Angry Birds Cheez Nips which we all know are a poor man's Cheez-Its but my kids like Angry Birds and they were on sale) and when I was walking out I heard a lot of shouting. I looked down the strip mall at the Bierstube and saw what looked like an abnormally large amount of white trash yelling things I usually only hear if I accidentally watch Ricki Lake. I would say it was somewhere between 8-12 people outside yelling and hitting depending on how fat they actually were. There was at least one female involved (and likely two) because I heard one yell "oh you did not just do that you #####" which actually made me laugh out loud. Then I heard sirens and the cop showed up and all of a sudden they all went inside so I left to come home and am now having sausage and crackers and cheese while drinking a vodka & R.C.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this will be nothing. On the other hand I think my wife might need two weeks away from the girls to decompress before #3 gets here, they have been running her over everyday.

I just kissed my son on the face about 30 times after reading all this kid stuff.

Jesus. I know I'm coming to this late, but so sorry. I think your statement "Life is ####### bull#### sometimes" is about the only thing to say.I know you and Mrs. Oat are individually very strong, and very strong as a couple, and that you'll be there to support each other through this awful time. I'm so sorry you have to go through it, though. Just awful. TPW.
This. Thopras...

:goodposting: Really sorry to hear, man. Can we help troubleshoot on where to park your daughters so you can be with your wife and baby? Does the hospital know some options? How old are your daughters? Do you want one of us to sit with them to help you out? Maybe Krista can job search and sit with them in Chicago? Guster could road trip to you with his daughter, run a daddy day care and write several long books. Perhaps St. Louis Bob could drive up and run Dive Camp for a week? I bet there some great bar-tending gigs for...you know what, skip that one. Rudniki could try and get them on FBG staff to help even out the middle-aged maleness of the group? Seriously, wishing you the best.

The Weather Channel created that horrific list and is pushing it hard. All the others weather agencies are getting blamed and having to take constant calls about it. There are plans in the works for the secret weather machine the gov't runs to churn up an EF5 to take The Weather Channel's Atlanta HQs out. :nerd:

Thanks, and thanks all for the TPW. We had one earlier in the year, but only at 8 weeks, and so it didn't sting like this. After the first trimester you're supposedly 99% in the clear, and so we had names picked, cans of paint in the nursery, interviewing nannies, etc. The baby was perfectly healthy. Was just a freak problem with the placenta that caused my wife to deliver too early. Another 6-8 weeks and we'd have been OK.What can you do but :shrug:The reality is hitting my wife a lot harder today now that all the drugs have worn off. She's strong, but this was tough to go through after she was already pretty upset from the first miscarriage earlier in the year. I've been taking time from work to be here for her. I guess I'll have to go back in on Monday, and unfortunately have a bunch of travel I need to make through the rest of January, but I can at least be here for her the next few days, and I'm lining up family to make sure they check in on her/spend time with her while I'm on the road.

Really sucks man...it happened to Mrs. TF's friend on the same day you posted...she was at 20 weeks as well. Has to undergo surgery today. Focus on your daughter and hopefully that should ease it a bit. She should be 2 in March right (I think she's a day or two apart from my boys). Fun age...so at least you have a bit of a distraction

My daughter is absolutely saving my wife's sanity in all of this. She has said that multiple times. I don't know how someone with no children deals with this.

Big moment in parenting happening right now. I'm about to give my 15-year-old son permission to get a ride with another kid into downtown Baltimore (10-12 miles away) after school today to go to a high school hockey game and get dinner afterward. Feel nervous doing it, but I can't just keep him sheltered his whole life. My wife is going to hate this - she is home sick today with a stomach bug, so I'm just going to put off telling her about my decision for as long as possible. That always works out great.
