My uncle was on the USS Enterprise in 'Nam. Somewhat disturbingly...

Obviously they were out of harm's way for the most part, but one time a guy on the deck got cut clean in half by one of those wires that they use to launch the jets.
My father-in-law told me the same story about a guy on his boat. I'll have to ask him which boat he was on.

Are we allowed to talk bracket talk in here?
My draft is tonight. Feel free to share your upsets, I could use the help.TIA
Minny is actually favored by 3 over UCLA. If you score for upsets, Pitt/Gonzaga would be close to a toss-up in the second round.
I started a thread years ago but I can't seem to find it. You draft teams and you get points based on there seed.A 1-2 seed gets you 1 point a win, 3-4, 2 points etc. There is a bonus too for upsets where a seed greater than 3 gets you more points.
PM being sent.

I'm on my way to getting drunk and more and more convincing myself to say "#### it" to all these jobs and just move to Nicaragua now. Should mention the idea started taking root yesterday before I was trying to get drunk.I watch all these House Hunters International episodes where people just take a leap, with no job and no roots, to a new place. I mean, they don't have two houses that they own outright. They don't have xxxxxxxx (only SLB knows, or doesn't ;) ) in savings. They have kids or something that makes things more complicated.I have a cat that needs a special diet I could bring down with me. I have an opportunity right now where I could work 20 hours a week if I wanted and make $100K/year, which is more than enough. Or I could forgo any work at all and just live on rental income from the other house (plus savings if necessary--shouldn't be). No health insurance? Health care is top-notch and cheap as dirt there. Why wouldn't I do this? The only reason seems to be that I'm scared to give up huge earnings potential and do what I'd prefer instead.
I'm nowhere near as ready as I imagine you to be financially, but I'm damned close to making the math work for something like this (dying or not).

I've been doing this for so long, that I actually just go with my gut and try to base off of what historically happens with seeding.I haven't looked at it closely enough yet, but I like a MAC team as a 12 seed to go to the sweet 16. VCU probably overrated and Michigan has struggled down the stretch.

Fainted/Blacked out today. Only thing I remember is being dizzy and then being woken up lying down in a pool of sweat. Apparently I was standing still and then fell straight down, collapsed on the ground with my eyes open.

I had drank a lot with little sleep and no food, but I'm still kinda freaked out. Low blood sugar? AIDS? Am I dying?
Welcome son, this is the beginning of the rest of your life
:goodposting: Tried to use this excuse with my wife (then girlfriend) about how I ended up with another chick's lipstick on my neck but it didn't work for me. Maybe it will work better for you.
:lmao: To clarify, it wasn't a drunk blackout. No liquor or anything, just beer. I wasn't completely hammered drunk or anything (for once). Kinda weird, I think I was just tired
On parade day? I find that hard to believe. Sorry about the AIDS.

Hello again GMTAN. Just got back from nearly 7 months at sea with no access to the FBG. Good to see this place is still around...feel like I was out there protecting at least one thing worthwhile :) Any major areas to hit up with nearly a years worth of back material to sort through?
Welcome back GB!

I remember reading this story somewhere before, maybe here, but I think it's fitting...
The businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The businessman complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied only a little while. The businessman then asked why he didn't stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The businessman then asked, but what do you do with the rest of your time? The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos; I have a full and busy life, señor."The businessman scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and I could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats; eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman, you would sell directly to the processor and eventually open your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City where you would run your expanding enterprise."The Mexican fisherman asked, "But señor, how long will this all take?" To which the businessman replied, "15-20 years." "But what then, señor?" The businessman laughed and said, "That's the best part! When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions." "Millions, señor? Then what?" The businessman said, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "Isn't that what I'm doing right now?"-Author Unknown

My son just told my daughter, "never trust a big butt and a smile" (thanks hip-hop dance classes playing 20 year old songs). My daughter retaliated by running out in the living room in a t-shirt and her underwear, on her head, pointing her naked butt into my son's face chanting "trust my butt, trust my butt".Pretty proud Dad all the way around right now.

Disco Stu, how was Lower Greenville? First time in years that I missed the festivities. Living in Plano now. Warned my tenant who lives off University and Greenville (she is 60) to either escape or stay put.
It was the same as always... drunken fun with friends and thousands of others. We technically didn't make it to Lower Greenville though. Tailgating in the CVS parking lot (at Lovers) was good enough for us.I felt great yesterday, since the hangover started at 7pm Saturday.

My father-in-law told me the same story about a guy on his boat. I'll have to ask him which boat he was on.It's amazing that it doesn't happen more often than it does. You've got a bunch of 18 and 19-year olds operating a mini-airport on top of a pitching boat.

I think I just overplayed my hand in salary negotiations with one of the firms that made me an offer, but their incentive targets were unrealistic.

My experience in salary negotiations is that if they really like you, you aren't going to alienate them via your compensation demands unless you're a complete nut about it. Also, the way it typically works is that if you don't ask for it, you don't get it, and now's the time to define the relationship. Take care of #1 first. All they can do is say "no". Good luck.

This was kind of my pitch. I'd be a pretty lousy litigation attorney if I didn't negotiate for the best possible deal, and didn't recognize the shortcomings of an offer. They seemed a little put off.

If they're put off, you may not want to work for them anyway as that may be intersting insight into how they will also view compensation issues in the future. I'm a litigator too, BTW.

I have a competing offer from another firm, but it's hard to judge them against each other since the other firm wants to 1099 me. I need to meet with a tax guy and discuss the potential benefit of writing off all the business costs versus the increased cost of carrying my own insurance and paying self-employment tax. This other firm has some decent incentives that look more achievable.

You might also consider incorporating if you're 1099 with that other firm, and if they allow it of course. There are some benefits to that.

Yeah, I need to either switch to a professional services corp or a PLLC. I just didn't have the need until now. Another thing I need to talk to the tax people about.

I just spent an hour looking at toilets. My boys are constantly clogging them up so I thought I would look into replacing them so playing in poop water isn't exactly my thing. So to have 4 toilets replaced with a decent/cheapest model is almost 2 grand. You have to be freaking kidding me.

Find a vacant/foreclosure and break in there.

No kidding. If all of the toilets weren't different colors in the old house I would have seriously considered taking them with me a replacing them with these low flow POS's.
