GM's thread about nothing (15 Viewers)

What a coincidence, I came in to see what kind of flirting Krista must be doing and I read one post. I see that you like the movie Sideways and want to go to a winery in SB. Just so happens that one pinot noir they were looking for / finally found in the movie was from Whitcraft Winery. Close friend, and I can get you a tour at his little winery in SB, where half the screenplay was written (guy would come up to drink and write there all the time). It's a cool story, there's more to it, but another time.

Basically, a very cool, humble guy, that just loved making wine. Started during his hippy days from his motor home. Success was kind of an afterthought. Anyway, remember to hit me up for a tour or something.
Let me know when you find it. :lmao:
IT WORKED! :bye:
:lmao:  :bag:

If you're trying to get from point A to Point B ASAP, take 5. If you're going to be looking at scenery and enjoying a nice trip, take 101. 5, especially down south, is akin to the Trail of Tears. Except it smells worse. And it saves you a couple hours, but 101 is fairly efficient.

We really like staying in Mendocino, which is an artsy/beachy town a couple hours north of SF. I'd stay along the coast for maybe a day or so after SF, before cutting back to 5 and heading home.

BTW, I might be posting a video tonight.*

* - No, YSR, it's not a video of my crank.

So I came home today and my wife hands me a notecard. She is equal parts perplexed and excited as she hands it to me, perplexed because the note is from somebody named "St. Louis Bob" and excited because the notecard came from a gigantic box of wine from Missouri! Holy hell, did some guy from the internet really send us a case of wine?

Man, I love you guys.

Bob, dialing....

I would like to add that my little sister called me on Father's Day. I was shocked since I haven't talked to her in almost 2 years. I also got a "Happy Father's Day" text from my GB that got evicted. Weird day.

I used priceline.com today for the first time and boy oh boy, what a neat contraption! I 'named my own price' on a hotel room in the French Quarter for October, punched in "$95" per night and WA LA I'm staying at the 4-Star Marriott - New Orleans. Man, I wish I had tried this service out before. Shoot, I'm just mad at myself for not punching in $5 a night.

Who wants to help me plan my honeymoon? I cashed in frequent flier miles and got two one way tickets to New Orleans for October. From there, we are renting a car and heading back up to Oregon, hitting as many National Parks and must see attractions as we can along the way.

So far, we're staying in New Orleans for 2 nights, then up to Baton Rouge for a wedding, then up to Jackson, MS to see my alm mater and to eat at my favorite two restaurants in Jackson, then we are on our way to Dallas to catch up with old friends. From there...well. I'm not sure, exactly, but a quick look has us going to Carlsbad Carverns, then Truth Or Consequences, NM for some Hot Springs Hotel action, then Petrified Forest, then Flagstaff for a night or two where we will check out the Sun Crater Volcano and Wupatki Ruins. Then, I think we're going to do some wine tasting in the Santa Barbara area (where they filmed Sideways - Shootah > hi!) and are looking for a place to stay there. Then up to San Francisco to stay with friends, but we absolutely want to do some wine tasting in the Napa/Sonoma area as well, so any tips here would be greatly apprecaited.

Then....I have no idea what. Ideas for the northern part of the state would be awesome. Should I go up 101? Should we target Shasta? You tell me. If I'm missing some stops in New Mexico or Arizona (I think we're going to bypass the Grand Canyon. I've rafted through it and would need more than a day to enjoy it, IMO), let me know. If there are areas in California that I'm leaving out, sell me on them.

My wife is a photographer, so we'll update the trip with many pics and narrated stories along the way if you guys are interested. Should be fun.
If you come within 200 miles of Austin you sure as hell better drop in for some coslove.

Since no one here seems to go to the wagering thread, I'll post this bet of the month here.

Kuroda is on the mound for the Dodgers against AJ BUrnett and the yankees this afternoon.

AJ has been hammered this month with a 10.35 ERA while losing his four June starts. And he has amazingly managed to get worse each outing.

Meanwhile, Kuroda has given up only two runs while striking out 23 over 19 innings in his last three starts.

BET THE DODGERS TIL YOUR HANDS BLEED (-120)

I actually like the over quite a bit. And as a Dodgers fan, I can tell you they could not be running any colder right now.BUT, I'll go with you because, I BELIEVE. :D

Wow, nice, what a surprise. Is she still out here? I bet I know her, or who she is, by now. It's basically too small of a place not to.

I'm at a Jacksonville Suns game right now. Two for one beer night. Yet I still felt the need to smuggle in one of those 4-pack little bottles of wine in my pants. Haven't done that since college.
I shoulda smuggled something into Toy Story 3 last night. Spent 55 bucks at the concession stand. But it's all good.

Went to the San Marco Theatre where they sell pizza, quesadillas, and beer.

13.50 of the 55 was for a pitcher of Sierra Nevada.

:excited:

She's still out there. I would be shocked if you didn't know her. Or had sex with her.

I had already put my entire balance and line of credit on the win. Wish I had posted before I bet, that would have been a nice parlay.

GM in California? :excited:

Congrats on the marriage GM, hope you're happy.

SLB, you are too funny. :)

I would love to see GM & shuke on Amazing Race even though I don't usually watch it.

On a totally different side note, if anyone watches Criminal Minds, they filmed the Alaska episode here in our town. It aired May 15 or something like that. My daughter took a pic with her and the character names Spencer (the smart guy).

Thanks! :) I have a new job so I can't cruise the web anymore during the day. I'm basically gone from the house for about 12 hours by the time I get back home.Today was the first chance I've had to read this thread all the way through. Your posts made me laugh so thanks for that.

I think we should do some sort of fundraiser to raise money for GM to traipse across the country visiting FBGs.

.....

Never mind- if we did that his house would probably get flooded before the trip and he'd spend the money on repairs, instead. Then a whole bunch of members here would get all PO'ed and self-righteous with indignation because he spent to money on necessities instead of a vacation.

Maybe GM only gets the money if he completes the trip?

GM vs. shuke - The Amazing Cornhole. At each of their stops, the host makes them complete an eating challenge. The twist: the contestants must share a bed every night.

For Napa Valley, Hall Wines was a pretty awesome stop with great wines. Also Opus One was just flat out impressive. Darioush was another really neat stop with good wines as well. Caymus wines are great, but I found the winery not quite as impressive as the other three I've posted. There are some other, smaller vineyards that I've visited as well, Neyer's had good wines, but was of the beaten path. Part of the fun was just stopping in a couple places unplanned.

Be careful though GM, my boss came back from there a few weeks ago and said there were a lot of cops staked out on the highways around the wineries.

Definitely make sure you're eating. And if you happen to spill on yourself, ask for wine-away. I found out about wine-away at Darioush around 1 in the afternoon after two previous tastings and no food yet.
