GM's thread about nothing (15 Viewers)

I'm also extremely proud of Cal. The reason my cousin is in town is because their oldest is very special needs (he's six and still has to wear a diaper)so he is getting more testing at Children's Hospital. Cal too it upon himself to teach him how to say basic words like "lamp", "curtains", "rug" etc. Cal just walked him around the house and was as gentle as good be with him. That's a good boy right there.
That's awesome.

I closed my SB account after the Superbowl, so I'm betting through JTC who is on a bender in Reno. It's been...spotty.

But I'm up after today, thanks to that ridiculous back door cover by Cal. Ready to press my luck.
 :hot:  :wall: That still stings this morning. We loaded up on the Cuse. Instead of being $350, I'm only up $100 for the tournament.

Lovely. 6+" of snpw here tonight and tomorrow. I'm ready to do a St Louis Bob off of my deck.

Krista, can I change my rental to NOW?

Hey, if any of you guys are feeling bad about your life....I pissed the bed last night. :bag: Never done it before, but I figure 39 is the perfect age to start doing ^^^^ like that.
I have a friend named Taylor. He was president of our fraternity my senior year and I probably have more good stories that involve him than anyone else alive. For example, after graduating law school he moved to Kenya to do something that involved living in a tent and ended up married to a girl that won the Kenyan version of Big Brother. And since he is a bald skinny white guy and she is a well-known Africa, he is the subject of much scorn and ridicule on Kenyan message boards and internet forums. Anyway, when he was a senior he developed an awful habit of pissing the bed after drinking. And there would usually be a girl in the bed with him. But since it was a fraternity house the beds were awful bunk bed singles. So what did he do? He convinced the girls that they had pissed the bed. By graduation there were at least three (and maybe 4) girls that thought they had wet the bed and of course were so embarrassed they never said anything to anyone....but they all adored Taylor for keeping their secret.

Momma always said piss'n on girls was the way to their heart. Also - Kenyan messageboards? I think we need a link here.

CC: Mamet is very stylized...his "voice" is very distinctive, and FWIW I think he works better as a playwright, where that arch style of his fits more appropriately...The thing about GGR is, it was written just about 30 years ago now, and presages a lot of the 80s materialism quite well IMO...It has become a cult hit, andthe ABC and steak knives scenes are almost cliche at this point, but it still packs a punch on stage...I have seen it twice with different casts, about 8 yrs ago with ALan Alda and Liev Schreiber and last year with Pacino and Bobby Canavale, and it still works on stage IMO

That said, House of Games and The Spanish Prisoner are both worth watching...he's at his best with con artists and charlatans

Also, Robert Pattinson was better in Cosmopolis than I could have imagined, especially since I think the book is lesser Delillo...Did you watch it?

Charv: Redmayne was excellent, as was Aaron Tveit as Enjolras

GM: J Roddy and the Business are a fun, throwback rock band, and put on a great live show...check this out:

stupid Ducks probably cost most of us boatloads today, but congrats
Yeah, that blows man, sorry. Wasn't sure why that was a Boatload Bet of the day...is St. Louis a basketball powerhouse or something? Gonzaga can take a knee a blow me. Destroyed all my brackets. Bets for tomorrow?
You're the expert, gloatmonster. Whatcha got?
I'm going against most people I've seen and with my heart, but I'm in tOSU for 4u  :excited:

Easiest road to the final 4 with only having played 1 game to date I have ever seen

I'd add Redbelt, Heist, State and Main, and Homicide as his movies worth seeing. I guess I like pretty much all of them. You're right that it's very stylized--I'd have no question whose movies I'm watching even if I hadn't known in advance. He also reminds me a little of Robert Bresson in that (with GGR as a huge exception), he often seems to have the "acting" stripped down.Tonight I'm going to see Leonard Cohen. The last (and only) time I saw him was practically a religious experience to me. Suck it, stryker.

People actually dislike Glengarry Glen Ross?
:shrug:I was surprised also
It's easy to argue that no fewer than four really good actors give the best performances of their film careers in it (pryce, Baldwin, lemon, Harris) with spacey close and pacino's up there as well if not for the fact he has such a big portfolio.
I've never even seen it :bag:
I've probably watched it about 20+ times. :bowtie:actually recorded the movie to an audio cassette and used to listen to it in the car on drives to/from college.

I could see it working better on the stage. And it's not like I hated the film, I just didn't get the hype. Much of the dialogue felt like it could be spoken by any character. They each had different motivations and aims, but they all mostly spoke in the same voice with the exception of Pacino - and that seemed more like Pacino's magic than anything else.

Also, I watched 5 minute of Cosmopolis and turned it off in disgust. That wasn't fair of me, sure, but I have particular sensitivity where Delillo is concerned. Beyond the casting, I'm kinda annoyed that of all of Delillo's novels, Croneberg decided to make a film of Comsopolis. It is definitely one of Delillo's lesser efforts. Why not Libra (a film has been rumored for years) or Underworld (which could be an epic film) or hell, The Body Artist make a great creepy little indie flick.

I dunno.

I'd be interested to hear how you like it if you get around to watching it. I don't know what films you like but in our limited time together I gathered that it might be up your alley.

Grilling mini-pizzas tonight. Will take pictures for those who were asking about 'em. Will effort for recipe later.

Cannot wait to watch Oregon crush St. Louis later.
Congrats GB. Your Ducks might go all the way. Strong team.
Thanks buddy! I didn't get a chance to watch too much of it, but they put it away early. The Ducks had no business being a 12 seed, but that chip on their shoulder has paid off. Huge slight by the selection committee, especially considering they made UCLA a #6. :loco: It's been a long time since Oregon was basketball relevant, so this is pretty cool.
:hifive:
BTW SLB, the kid that's the shortstop for the Cards...can't think of his name right now. Anyway, this broad that works with me is his aunt. Supercool chick and they're really tight. Big freaky German chick, so you guys would get along great.

Anyway, I'm thinking if you want some autographed crap or would want to get on the field or in the locker room or something, I might be able to make that happen.

I would clearly need a long-distance handy from Pepper, even though I'm still convinced she hates me. All good though...a hate-jerk is even better than a regular one. :pickle:
Wat? The gal that pointed Girl Scouts out to you? No, not at all. She is very fond of all of you guys.I lieu of autographs, can I just get silly with big German chick?

Thanks GB and the rest of you too. My cousin's kid couldn't say Calvin, but could say Dylan. So he was calling Calvin, Big Dylan. Just two years ago that would have driven Cal insane and he would have been yelling and screaming like a maniac. He has come a long way in a short amount of time and it fills my heart with joy. :tannerseal: Thanks again to all of you teachers.

So with the family away I hit the netflix and ended up watching Glengary Glen Ross for the first time.

I don't get it. I mean, Pacino was :moneybag: but David Mamet took an all star cast and made them insult each other uncreatively for 120 minutes.

Is this what real life stressed out salesman sound like? SLB?
Somehow I got roped into running the bracket pool at work (ok I volunteered - I love that shtit) and in the email for the payouts I put 2nd place - set of steak knives, 3rd place - you're fired. So some yutz replies to me with the link to that scene in the movie.. thanks, guy, I didn't realize it was from a movie  . But it was the owner's son so I just ignored it. Then some broad who doesn't get it drives it into the ground by asking what 4th and 5th place get and if I need prize donations. God I hate people. On the good news front, I will be getting a promotion and a 30-40% raise. So I got that going for me, which is nice. (please don't send me Caddyshack clip)
Congrats! Can I borrow some money?
People actually dislike Glengarry Glen Ross?
one person does, but he also does shot videos with horses so there's that.
What? I like car chases, ok?
Ironic Car Chases
:lmao: :lmao:We getting hit with a blizzard today. Bad news for my liver.

So I just bought my plane ticket to Cincy so that me and Guster can see the Derby. More than slightly annoyed with the rest of you that you haven't done the same yet.
Does this mean you're in
Ugh. This is why I shouldn't smoke after coming home from a full day of drinking. I was so confused/completely out of it last night.Derby trip sounds awesome. I've got a lot going on this summer but I'll see if I can somehow make it work. :banned:

I've got a stye on my eye that would make Rocky Balboa feel like Warren Beatty. The whole eyelid is swollen to the point that I can't see out of it; off-setting that is the fact that it's weeping. Can't see AND crappy stuff running down my cheek = "LOSE".

Minn +8

Ill +8

Duke -6

SDSU -7.5

I'm not sure if JTC is alive or not. He's my betting mule but he's yet to respond this morning. +2 whole units for the tournament. :bowtie:

So jealous.
Is he the guy that was on Star Trek? What does he do now? Not sure I've ever heard of him except for Star Trek which I've never seen either.
He does a one man show, lots of Shatner impressions and stories, then calls people up and does the whole "Live long and prosper" shtick with them

No excuses - its on netflix. I love this movie, but it made me really uncomfortable at every turn. Great actors, a bit over the top, and works very much like a stage play on screen (it was). If you are old enough ...kinda of like "Playhouse 90." The intensity and the atmosphere remind me a lot of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" Another incredible and stressful movie that everyone should see."Time to play get the guests - Maw-thaa"

Spacey was good but in this, but he's been far better and more memorable in other movies. American Beauty is my personal favorite Spacey performance. He was outstanding.
