GM's thread about nothing (12 Viewers)

I had lunch today with the head of recruiting from my last company. Turns out they haven't had any luck in finding someone to fill my role, and she kept emphasizing how much everyone misses me and needs me. Asked if I'd be willing to come back if they let me work from Nicaragua. Intriguing.
That would help to de-stress that job a bit no?

First, nice to see you & BL around.

For me it has gotten hard to work out of the house or in K4's case Nic for too many days. After awhile I start goofing off too much. Case in point, here I am posting in the FFA.

Wish I could say the same about working from home. I have been working out of the house for the last 3 weeks but have had zero time...most of what time I did/do have has been spent in the NHL thread and other related NHL sites.

Good to be somewhat back here and if my schedule changes to what I think it will be in the near future I will once again have lots of spare time.

Well poop. We almost made it through a 4 day visit from my mother without incident. But this afternoon she and wife had a spat and I'm sure ill be hearing about it for weeks or months.

1. I rarely eat lunch.

2. When I do it is usually some crackers or a granola bar I find at work.

3. Wife tries to tell me how unhealthy this is.

So today I went home after jury duty and wife asks if I want lunch then makes a joke to my mom that I usually don't eat lunch and if I do it is "usually a handful of trail mix or half a left over cracker." My mother - in the midst of Habing a crazy moment replies "well that's probably prett healthy actually."

BOOM

Could have chilled meat in the house it got so cold so suddenly. So I've dropped mom off and an heading home to hear all about how my mom baby's me and how she most certainly must have no idea what I've put wife through and so on and so forth.

FINE! I used everything I've ever learned in my life to guess what's been going on in YOUR life and have updated it accordingly.

Not sure if that is good news or bad news. Glad to see Buck back too. There are probably a dozen people that used to post in here all the time that have stopped which sucks.

We will be at the temple on Thursday night for the game and fireworks. On off chance yall are going text me and maybe a beer can happen.
I have the kids, so I am out, but text me next time for sure.

Good news, just working at a different client that is not very difficult nor time consuming, so nothing bad news about it at all.

That's awesome, hope that works out the best for you!

And yeah, pretty awesome. Great year for me hockey fan wise. Took my two boys to their first games (both wins) and then was able to watch the Hawks win with both of them. Awesome.

My wife and I can move with you and I could be your houseboy/legal assistant. Problems solved.

Are we talking about the same SEC who couldn't nail Bernie Madoff for two years after he had been served up on a platter for them?
Yes, and also the same one that just had a record year for enforcement actions.

Different topic, short of flaming #### in brown paper bag, how does one deal with a neighbor whose house alarm has been going off intermittently--anywhere from once an hour to once every 20 minutes--since 4 a.m.? The person doesn't even live in the area. We've called the HOA several times and were assured that their cleaning lady would be coming by by 3 p.m. (damn it, only two "by" in a row) to fix it, which didn't happen. This is infuriating and exhausting.

How is flysack's kid in a brown paper bag going to stop the neighbor's house alarm from going off intermittently?

Didn't even think about how the #### would show up. :lmao:

By the way, this is not just your garden-variety alarm that sounds like a car alarm or something. It is one of those for about 30 seconds, followed by a computerized voice yelling, "Burglary! Burglary! You have violated a private property! Leave immediately!" It does this over and over for about 10 minutes each time.

Perfect time to steal the car.

Does Nicaragua have an extradition treaty with the US? This could be important.

Did my good deed for the day.

Walking in downtown Minny (about a block away from Macy's) when all of a sudden I see a guy ride up on a bike, grab the backpack of the woman walking just in front of me. He then grabs her shoulder, spins her around and starts getting somewhat rough with her, while still straddling his bike.

This doesn't appear to be a domestic dispute, just a random confrontation.

I'm with my son(13) and after taking a few steps past the altercation, I tell him to keep walking, which he does.

I turn around and as I'm walking towards the two, I hear the guy, nose to nose with the woman, talking about learning respect...blah, blah, blah

I get up to them and ask her if she's OK

He tells me to get out of here and starts back in on her about respect.

'What have you done to earn anyone's respect?'

'Excuse me'

'Look. I'm sure whatever she did doesn't warrant you manhandling her....' (tanner softball)

'You best keep walking'

At this point, I stare him down, crack a smile and take a step right at him.

'I told you to keep walking'

tough guy nod activated as I continue to stare and smile.

'Oh, that's it!, mother :censored: 'As he starts to get off his bike.

By this time, I realize the woman is a safe distance away. So I step away without letting him out of my site so I don't get blindsided.

I then catch up to my son, now on the other side of the street in front of Macy's, and we went and hid in the store

:scared:

I'm not a "call the cops" guy but this is when you call the cops.
Apparently someone did, as we just met them outside. Basically said there's nothing they can do. Yay.

Robbery or vandalism is becoming increasingly tempting. I even mentioned a sledgehammer to the cops, and they gave me the "do what you have to do and we'll turn a blind eye" reaction. Unfortunately we don't have a sledgehammer.

So far the best option is that the HOA has said they'll pay for us to stay in a hotel for the night as they continue to try to get the homeowner to fix the problem. Staying in a hotel is pretty damn infuriating, though.

Good for you! (And :lmao: at the last part.)

There was this couple that live about 3 condos down from us who owned a pretty nifty, classic Corvette (probably a '73). Their condo didn't have a garage so they parked it in the carport. The alarm on that thing would go off at least once a day. If another car drove down the alley too fast or had a loud muffler, the Vette's alarm would start blaring.

WONK! WONK! WONK! WEEEE-OOO WEEE-OOOO

After a month of this I emailed the HOA but nothing changed. Then I wrote a very civil and "neighborly" note for them and left it on the windshield. That didn't work either.

Just when I figured it was time to talk to the face to face they moved out. Turns out they were foreclosed. One of my sons overheard them yelling at each other about whose fault it was. Karma and all that.

Good for you! (And :lmao: at the last part.)
I'm not tiny, 6'1'' / 220, but I haven't thrown a punch in 20+ years. The guy was probably a little bigger than me and I'd put myself at +160 if I was setting the money line.Add to the fact that I was wearing these ......

As I was mentally convincing myself to intervine, I knew I was in trouble if it got physical.
