GM's thread about nothing (64 Viewers)

Not sure why, but the new truck shtick is the hardest i've laughed at this board in a while.
Much as I love me some Truck, I am pretty sure redman brought that to the thread a week or so ago. Just want to give credit where it's due.

In a similar situation.. I drive a 2005 small single cab pickup. Lately been feeling the transmission acting up so I changed out the filter and fluid. That only cost about 100 bucks, but if other things start breaking down or the transmission goes out completely I'll just have to get a new car. Really hate car payments though..

12k for trade in on a vehicle with nearly 100k miles seems crazy. If you can really get 12k for it I definitely think that's the best way to go. That sounds unrealistically high though.
Don't you need to factor in the cost of what you're getting to replace it before you say that's a good deal?

Used cars are retaining their values longer because they're more reliable than they used to be, so what benefits him on the front end will cost him on the back end.
That's true. 12k sounded unusually high to me but quick search shows that's pretty accurate. Still seems like a decent time to sell and get something newer IMO.

I should have bought a Nissan instead of a stupid Ford 8 years ago. :kicksrock:

Need advice here.

My son will be going into his 4th year of cub scouts next year. It's called Webelos. I guess they are in that for 4th and 5th grade. This summer there is a camp for kids that age, it is 4 days/3 nights. Parents do not go, but some of the scout leaders will be there. Boys stay two to a tent, no adult.

Our den leader is encouraging all the boys to go, because it's supposed to be a lot of fun for the boys and they have opportunity to earn a bunch of their requirements.

My son has a lot of anxiety about this. About being scared, being homesick, afraid the other boys would see him get upset if he is homesick, etc. We don't want to push him, told him he'll have other opportunities, etc. On the hand, I don't want him to miss the opportunity and have a lot of regret afterwards, especially if the rest of the boys in his den are going.
Cal is supposed to do this too. I have more anxiety about it than him. Fortunately (and unfortunately) Mrs. SLB is now Grand Poobah or something so she'll be going on the trip.

I'm really considering poisoning the well on Scouts.

I partied last night at a bungalow with approximately 15 college chicks down here for spring break with jello shots. Then I caught a snook today.
Pics? Of the chicks not the stupid fish.
Girls
So what's all this now?
The bungalow next to where we are staying in fort myers was being really loud last night, so me and this married couple I just met decided to go over there and see what's what and it was 15 or so college girls and two dudes playing drinking games. We invited ourselves in and they gave us many beers (Busch Light, of course) and some jello shots and let us play games with them. This is a picture of some of them. At one point some of them were dancing on the tables but I though taking a picture at that point would have been creepy. At around 11-1130 things started to taper off so I was like cool I'm going to bed then I realized they were just getting all prettied up to go out and I was like man I'm old and married. But I enjoyed myself.
Hot broads. I'm really disappointed you didn't slam a couple of energy drinks and go out with them though.

So marijuana is classified as a sched 1 drug by the Fed Gov't. Addictive, no medicinal benefits......

US Patent 6630507 is held by the Federal Gov't for, you guessed it, medicinal use of marijuana

There was some kind of sales rep training going on at the same hotel I stayed at in Houston last night. Ended up spending a significant amount of time by the firepit with a gal who drank one of those jugs of sutter home white zin during our conversation. My favorite part of the chat came when she had to break up her. Opining on global economic dynamics (she is seriously concerned with the amount of wealth leaving developed countries for developing economies) in order to hold down a barf.

She was a mouthy drunk skinny blonde girl with low self esteem. She even got angry at someone in our group at one point. Pretty much right in my wheelhouse. If only I wasn't married...
It was many years ago so I forget where I heard or read it exactly but it was declared on some list that women that drink white zin are sluts. If you are ever to share this information, like I did, you should make sure that your cousin's wife isn't drinking white zin, like I didn't.

Cliff notes for the last 4000 pages?

TIA
Everybody's drunk.

Except people that know Bob. They're...not drunk.
Um, what now?

So, yesterday my almost 9 year old truck that just hit 90k miles stalled on the on ramp getting on the highway. Check engine comes on, but I manage to get it started and get it home. Take it in this morning for an oil change and and to get the code checked. As these things go, the fix is pretty minor. I'll see if I have more trouble, but likely I'm looking at a sub $200 fix.

Anyway, I hate car reliability problems and this has me wondering if I'm about to hit the money pit stage of the truck (2005 Nissan Frontier). I decide to see what my trade in value is and amazingly it's around $12k! This was the first year of the 2nd generation Frontiers and the low mileage must be factoring in a pretty positive way.

I love not having had a car payment for a long time but I'd pretty much be a fool not to unload this thing now, right?

ETA: I also love driving an old truck where I don't give a crap about dings and such. That guy in the BMW who won't let me merge like a zipper? I just go anyway. Hit me. I have no ####s to give.
Good stuff guys. Thanks

:kicksrock:
i'm a big proponent of no car payment. and that's not a lot of miles for a car these days. it should soldier on at least until 150k, no?
You would think. It's just a nagging feeling I have that I'm at a sweet spot between trade in value vs future depreciation and maintenance costs.

I've never felt the need to own a truck
I currently own a truck. I'm not talking about buying a truck.

It was also incredibly useful through my first house with tons of DIY projects, camping in the mountains of Colorado and navigation in the snow there as well as the multiple house moves I've experienced in the last few years. However, now most of those things no longer apply so the value of having a truck is definitely diminished. Still nice to be able to jump in and get to places a sedan can't but the others are all moot.

Bob, you didn't comment on my comment on that FB pic you posted from last weekend. You didn't appreciate my Spanish translation of your post?

Oh, I didn't read most of your post. I just felt bad that nobody responded.

That's sort of my shtick on her posts. I believe on one of her and her sisters I posted "Estas chicas guapas, que hacen mis pantalones tan feliz."

This is a misconception. A woman who drinks white zin has ####ty tastebuds, which means she'll probably put just about anything in her mouth. That doesn't make her a slut. It just means she's more likely to do really naughty and potentially disgusting things, though they may all be with the same man. I'm sure if you present this newfound information to your cousin's wife, she'll appreciate the clarification.

Shark move is to put 15k more miles on it then wedge it under a school bus.

Feet are absolutely killing me after day 1 of this conference. Currently drinking on bourbon street but need to get back to my hotel to change. So pisses I didn't get a hotel down here.

Save the trip back to the hotel and just buy new clothes. Then go over to the FedEx office and two day the ones you're wearing back home. Sometimes convenience >>>>>>> money and common sense.

Work thing. I've been before but not since college visiting season half a lifetime ago. Wed to Friday. Not sure where yet.

And yet you are the one concerned that you might be losing your job?

On another topic, how is your sister doing?

In a rare fit of fiscal conservatism, I thought it might be better to wait until we have been in this house a while and are sure we are staying.
