GM's thread about nothing (21 Viewers)

Or just used Gregerson for the price of one Seth Smith. The 'pen is loaded, they could've used that money to go after Haren or somebody.
Yeah I don't know who those people are.
Dan Haren?
Oh yeah I know him.

I did learn listening to the game yesterday that some A's dude that I've never heard of was 4th in AL MVP voting last year. Congrats
Oakland drafted Nick Swisher too. 100% true.
Giambi too, no?

Some guy called me this morning and said that despite what the screen told me last night, I actually passed the certification exam even with the last 13 answers being wrong.

Legit call or IT guy that doesn't want to have to admit to his boss that the server crashed?

Does it matter?

I thought this whole thing was a publicity stunt?
What are we gathering from all this. Is this a famous person? Nice skin?
HTH
Hilarious.

I had to google James Franco too. The guy from Milk. Good movie.
oh come on
 Honestly, I know he's famous because I hear the name, I just wasn't sure for what. Looked at his movie list and I've seen precisely one of them. Milk. Not all of us read US Weekly, Sechrest.

guy hosted the Oscars.

never watched Freaks & Geeks? You missed out.
I thought Ellen hosted the Oscars. Nope, never watched Freaks & Geeks. I re-looked over his filmography. I saw "Knocked Up" but I don't remember him being in it.

How was the Green Hornet?

they hold the Oscars every year. Ellen hosted this year, but not every year they've ever been held.

127 Hours was pretty good. Pineapple Express was a good stoner comedy.

you have young boys and avoided the Spider Man movies he was in too?

"He had a mustache in 'Milk'. That's why I didn't recognize him."
So the moustache was his beard. Interesting. So he's not gay? He's just a little like.....Homer?

Him He Franco and Mila Kunis had a good cameo in Date Night (i think thats what its called, Tina Fey and Steve Carrell)

I don't watch very many movies. The last movie I saw was "Oh Dark Thirty" which was pretty good. I'm behind by quite a bit. I haven't been to a theater to see a movie in years. The last time I took one of my sons to the movies I took him and his buddies to see "Adventures of Rin Tin Tin" in 3D and it was horrible. Before that, maybe "Horton Hears a Who", which was so bad I fell asleep. I hate kid movies. I really hate action figure movies. Not a chance I sit through 3 iterations of Spider Man. My oldest son isn't into movies at all. Coop likes movies, but his mom is the go-to source for movies. My wife couldn't tell you the difference between James Franco and Julio Franco.

But, we watch the Bachelor, so....there's that.

Is 127 hours the one where the bad guy is calling somebody in a phone booth?

Is 127 hours the one where the bad guy is calling somebody in a phone booth?
no, it's about a guy who goes rock climbing in the desert and gets stuck under a rock.

127 Hours is a 2010 British-American biographical survival drama film directed, co-written and produced by Danny Boyle. The film stars James Franco as real-life canyoneer Aron Ralston, who became trapped by a boulder in an isolated slot canyon in Blue John Canyon, southeastern Utah, in April 2003.

The film, based on Ralston's memoir Between a Rock and a Hard Place, was written by Boyle and Simon Beaufoy, produced by Christian Colson and John Smithson and the music was scored by A. R. Rahman. Beaufoy, Colson and Rahman had all previously worked with Boyle on Slumdog Millionaire. The film was received well by critics and audiences and it was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Franco.

I don't know what kind of movies you like, GM, but 127 Hours was fantastic.
Your opinion is one I would trust on movies. I like documentaries, solid acting and dialog in movies with great story lines, don't mind slow pace, big into character development, pro-nudity, pro-drugs and love comedy if it's done right. Done right for me = 40 Year Old Virgin. Done wrong for me = just about anything with Will Ferrell. I hate action movies, will not watch a super hero movie, hate movies that jump around too much with the plot or are hackneyed and believe that the bigger the budget, the bigger the opportunity for disappointment.

Also, I lied. The last movie I saw was "Silver Lining Playbook" and liked it very much. Didn't love it, but I really thought it was well done and well acted.

If I see it, will I be lost not having watched the other 2?

Hey, did you know that some dishwashers are delivered with a junction box for direct wiring but no power cord that you can just plug in?

Yeah, me neither :wall: Had to special-order it (after waiting 2 weeks for the ####ing dishwasher which also wasn't in-stock locally), and either wait 2 more weks, or pay twice what I would have if I'd known to order it with the DW to get it in 3 days. :hot:

What's the point of an establishment advertising "Free wi-fi" if they're just going to password protect it? Seems dumb.

Just saw him in Of Mice and Men. It's in previews. Hoping it gets better before it opens on the 16th.

You would think acting is acting, but some people should just stick to celluloid.

On my drive to work today I saw a black guy wearing sweatpants and uggs while walking a dog. Not in a residential area, mind you, this was major boulevard. I wanted to roll my windows down yell some simple advice, "Hey, don't do that!". But live and let live, right?

You want him to not be black?

I may be misunderstanding you, but if all you need is a pigtail, you should be able to get one at any hardware store for a couple of bucks.

True, I could have done that, cut the junction box off the supplied power cord (with special-shaped end that plugs into the DW itself) and spliced them together. But then I'd have this nasty bulky heavily taped blob because I suck as an electrician. Granted it would be under the sink. I guess I'd rather not go self-wired when there's water nearby.

ETA - dammit, now I'm pissed at myself for not just getting something like this, which I've used to repair extension cords before. In my defense, I was dealing with some intestinal unpleasantness over the weekend and was probably not fully focused.

Not wading into that thread, but I agree with JoeT about bicyclists.
Cliff's notes?
JoeT thinks those dudes who look like they're in the Tour doo France and ride their bikes alongside the road are endangering themselves and creating a safety hazard.

Didn't get past the OP.
Gotcha - I didn't even get that far.

Would agree that there are some dopes, especially in the city during rush hour, that suck.

No, you're right (see edited post).

The DW has a special receptacle for one end of the cord (similar to removable power cords for electronics), but the cord comes in two varieties. One has a junction box on the other end for hard-wiring, and the other has a 3-prong wall plug. My old DW had a built in cord with a 3-prong and I just assumed that's what I'd get on the new one.
