So I just heard from the Medical Examiner, and this is what she said. We have to request a full Autopsy Report, but here's the gist.
Anyone have any knowledge - or questions that we should ask or research, by all means.
His heart was inflamed, consistent with Myocaridtis (as we suspected).
He had inflammation in his right lung and esophagus too. And he had Influenza A - the flu.
I quizzed her about what happened, and why and she essentially told me that it's random and rare in her experience (she's seen in 3 times in 5 years with kids, no apparent rhyme or reason) - but he had the flu, it spread to his lung and upper respitory system and somehow into his heart.
By the time he showed serious symptoms, his heart was infected.
He died of a heart attack or arrthymia caused by the heart's reaction to the virus.
Doctor said that also in her experience, some people are prone and less likely to beat it. She saw drug addicts have it severely and fully recover, while she's seen otherwise healthy kids like Connor die of it.
Our 4 year old had vomiting and diarrhea and shook it just as Connor got sick, so it could be the same virus that one had with mild symptoms for 48 hours and the other died from.
Anyone has knowledge or can think of follow-up to ask, please do.
