GM's thread about nothing (21 Viewers)

Coop might have the croup. Called the Dr. to get him today and they haven't seen him in so long that he dropped out of their system. Once they found him, they informed me he hasn't had a check-up since he was 5. He's 10. Do you guys want me to call child services on myself or is somebody here already dialing. Good to have a healthy kid, but jesus...I make Britney Spears look like a responsible parent.
Why go to the doc if the kid is fine?
That was my jokey joke answer back to the advice nurse, who wasn't nearly as jocular as I would have hoped.

Meh. Those nurses are like the dental hygienists who think you're worse than canteloupe if you admit to not flossing daily. There's no joking about these things.

Slightly related question........... Little Zooks has 2 cavities, since he's going to lose these teeth anyways, does he really need to get the fillings? I'm dumb when it comes to dental things, but does a cavity effect/affect anything other than the tooth itself? My dental plan at work sucks and I'd rather not have to pay for this if I don't have to. My first thought was that it needs to be done but it was actually the ex-MrsZooks that thinks we don't need to do this because the teeth are going to fall out anyways. Any experts on the workings of a child's mouth besides Homer?

Isn't that the job of the ex?

So sorry to hear, Floppo

Zooks>A quick consultation with Dr. Google indicates that unless the tooth is almost ready to come out, you probably should get it filled.

If your child develops a cavity in a baby tooth the decay will slowly (and sometimes rapidly) get bigger and deeper. If the tooth is really close to falling out, we have the option of just leaving it alone. If it looks like it may be a while till it would normally fall out, we need to do something. Otherwise you are in for ugly teeth, toothaches, infection and more extensive dental work.

A small cavity can be filled with a white filling, a medium cavity can be filled, but a deep or large cavity may need a crown to cover the whole tooth. If the tooth is in the back, the crown may be silver in color. It may even need a Pulpotomy or “nerve treatment”. So, get it fixed early when it is small (and less expensive)!

Remember baby teeth are there for a reason. They give the child something to chew with and (importantly) they often save space for the permanent teeth. Why don't you just pull it? Well, sometimes that is the best option, but if a back baby tooth is lost too early, without followup treatment, additional crowding problems that are often more difficult to correct will occur. So you usually will need additional work like a Space Maintainer. That's one reason why it's often easier to fix a baby tooth than just remove it.

Thanks. Though not the answer I was hoping for.

I've got a call in to Mrs. Ignoramus, a dental hygienist regarding the baby teeth question. Not sure if she'll deign to respond as I have not flossed for several days now.

Are you referring to using a string to remove bits of food from between your teeth, or showing off your wealth in an ostentatious manner?

She finally responded:
It depends if it is severely infected, shrimp ****. It can affect the permanent tooth. Also, if it is a baby molar that won't fall out until the child is 10+ years

I think shrimp **** is a cool nickname.

The Ferguson, Missouri thread is as bad as I think it's going to be, right?
Pretty much.
Minimize/do not show threads that suck would be a neat board feature. Or do not show me any more content from this person in my feed.
We really should have an "upvote/downvote" system like they do on reddit.
Do you think the vigilantes at reddit will do something about the bullies that chased Robin Wiliams' daughter from teh innernets with pictures of her dead dad? Seems like they should go Steubenville on these bastards. Is that reddit?

Sorry.

Hopefully my excuse was acceptable.

Do you think it's going to be filled with veiled and blatant racism, as well as denial about crime rates in predominantly minority neighborhoods, as both sides bury their heads in the sand and forget that this incident was about a single, real person who almost certainly got the shaft from the police force?

Would probably have only ten downvotes a day.

Is it worse than I imagine that Tony Stewart thread to be?
Icon just said that the kid who got hit by Stewart "paid the stupid tax", so there you go.
How about that......
I like icon, but he makes it hard

Just got back from the Doc and I am off the potential liver killing meds mixed with alcohol. I can officially drink alcohol for at least a 2 month window. :excited: Wasn't kidding about making a terrible shot video. :bag:

San Antonio/Austin Jim-Tanners. My former comedy club partner is going to be coming to your town as the new traffic reporter/morning show host.

Prepare to either love her or hate her.
Thanks for the very specific information. Is it San Antonio or Austin (they're two separate media markets)? Radio or TV? Which channel? At least you let us know she was a chick.
San Antonio. TV. Don't know what channel.
NM i found it. Cute.

plenty of you lawyer types up in here. advice please.

i've never sued anyone in my life. my FIL may need to.

he had a stent put in around 6 years ago. the wound in his upper thigh where they went in, has never properly healed. it will heal up, then reopen. it's crazy to think about that still happening 6 years later!

he's contacted the maker of the stent, they say it's on the surgeon. insurance is giving him the run around and sending him to more doctors. all of which, cost him more money. i'm not sure what the conversation with the surgeon resulted in, or if there has even been a conversation with him.

sorry for the spotty details, but it's second hand, through my wife.

personal injury lawyer? :boatloads?:

IB, know anyone?
