GM's thread about nothing (30 Viewers)

I'd stay very far away from beemers. I'd heard plenty of horror stories with them. My boss has a 2011 5 series one that just went into the shop for a blown transmission gasket. He's going to be out of a car for a few weeks now.Besides, some would say that the 3 series is a chick car. Just saying....that's what some would say...
Did they not give him a loaner? I've had nothing but excellent service from mt BMW dealer - if my car was under warranty and in the shop for a week, I would have a loaner for that time. And the 3 series is not a chick car. Don't know where you're getting that one.

Yeah, they gave him a loaner a week later. They didn't have one for him that day. He, not making this up, ended up driving his wife's car......a 3 series convertible. If you google 3 series chick car, a lot of links pop up.

If you have the funds for a BMW, you go with something like this:http://autos.yahoo.com/2011_nissan_370z_coupe/:pantydropper:Or, if you want want a sedan and not a sports car, I'd go:http://autos.yahoo.com/2011_acura_tl/
I don't think I'm a fan of either of those. Definitely open to suggestions, though. How many opinions have you heard about BMW? I've heard nothing but good things.

 I never see chicks driving that 335i coupe and there are a lot of them around here. It's not like it's a Jetta anyway.

those new TLs are hideous imo. I had a 2004 and thought it was a nice car, but I can't stand what they've done to it.

In that range, I'd check out the Audi A5 too. That thing is pretty sweet. Maybe a Porsche Boxter, too.

Decided yesterday I'm actively saving to get a new car on my 30th birthday. Is this an early mid-life crisis, or the result of driving the same Toyota Camry since I was 16?

Need to save about 1,700 a month to get there, even with the savings I have now. I have a hard time not paying cash.
You are planning to pay cash for the WHOLE thing? Why? You can get a good interest rate on cars now. You can get something like 2.9% for 60 months. I've even seen 0.9% and 1.9%.If it was me, I'd feel more comfortable having that chuck of money in savings and just making a small car payment every month.
Good point. My credit should be fine (albeit - I haven't checked in a while). I just have a personal bias against going in debt for something that depreciates in value like that - even though I understand the opportunity cost.
This is a wise thing to do  Also, would think about buying used

A Haiku about my day yesterday -

Subbed for softball team

Their team, tools with baseball pants

Made me think of Woz

Congrats GM. Will this make you a fellow member of the popping them out at 40 club? :olddadatHSgraduation:

I'm 38 and won't hit 40 for another 20 months....but I'm not spring chicken, that's for sure.

While European reliability had been improving, momentum seems to have stalled. All Porsche and Volvo models are rated average or better. But Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz are among the worst automakers overall.

I can find 100 websites saying the exact opposite. Random links aren't really going to convince me unless they get into technical detail, which your link (and sublinks of Consumer Reports) fails to do.

Somewhere on this site, at some point, was a long thread with scorchy and some other people arguing with Joe and some other people about whether or not a Boxster was a chick car. It just triggered flashbacks.

I have an '06 TL and thus far am a fan. I'll probably drive it until it tells me I'm too fat to haul around anymore. I think there's a service code for that.

I think I actually parodied this to Ledbetter, but it was lost in the great LABS fire of aught-eight.

:lmao:

I forgot about that thread. Scorchy was vehement that his Boxter-S was not a chick car and not a pretend porsche.

I thought Consumer Reports would be a good, unbiased opinion. I'm not sure what exact technical detail you are looking for. Like I said earlier, I know of someone personally who has had issues with a brand new 2011 BMW (my boss).Either way, good luck if you do get one.

Just think, before you know it Otis, Pickles, GM, YSR & SLB2 are all going to have babies.
YSR is knocked up?Who is SLB2?
Sonny Lubick?
Stryker
I've got about a year left. Gonna start trying right away in August :bag:
I should have met you when you were in town just so I could smack you in the head a few times.

Catching up...just found out Pickels got married, now he's having a kid??? and GM too??? This place passed me by long ago...which isn't a bad thing since I probably won't have the time for it, shortly.

Speaking of which...what kind of hourly wage would it take for you to quit a good job and go back to one you weren't "so enthused" about?

Keys:There isn't really anything "chick" about 300 horsepower and peak torque of 300 lb-ft in the 335i. I agree with the poster that brought up the M3 though, if you can afford the extra scratch. It's a monster.

The stories about reliability are pretty accurate though. BMW is notorious for minor things breaking. My 330i has spent a ton of time in the shop, and these cars are expensive as hell to fix. I've been pretty lucky with my M3 though. No problems there, yet.

Bring your Mechanic With you.

If you're going to save that much leading up to a purchase, why not just lease one? You get all of the car and none of the headaches.

A new M3 would be a pretty happy 30th birthday.

A 4.0-liter V8 powers every 2011 BMW M3, sending 414 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. It is perhaps the perfect all-around car for enthusiasts. From track-day shenanigans to the daily commute, the M3 does it all with aplomb.

No time to catch up on this thread, but congrats to GM and anyone else that recently found out their boys can (still) swim (or whose eggs can (still) assimilate man-seed, as the case may be).

Hhmmm... Well it's just about impossible for me to be a daddy again, unless I somehow get my left hand pregnant. And if it does get pregnant, I'll know the date of conception was yesterday: Palm Sunday. In honor of the holiday, I really went to town. And at the end of the day, my left hand said nothing to me, didn't complain, didn't ask to cuddle and didn't make a peep when my right grabbed the remote control and put on SportsCenter. Suck it, married guys!!!

I'm trying to figure out how this is substantially different from being married.

My girlfriend was reading some chick magazine and decided that we should have sex every day for the next month straight :towelwave:

We also have a second one on the way. And JR got into a fight yesterday, which I thought was pretty good for a kid that isn't even two.

Some kid had it out for him the bounce house for some reason, and the kid pushed JR once he bounced too close. So JR flattened him and the kid crawled out of the bounce house crying. Little did JR know that the other kid's older brother was also in there. The older brother kicked JR in the back and the other kids' mom starting flipping out about the whole deal. Personally, I was ready to let them solve it like men.
