GM's thread about nothing (41 Viewers)

Ughh, that sucks SLB
I'm seriously enraged here and I'm having a hard time keeping my cool but I have to or else Mrs. SLB will flip out. I talked the principal several months ago, I told her of our plans and she said he could go there until we sold our house. It looks like it is going to thunderstorm but I'm going for a long walk.

We were just told that if we don't sell out house soon, Cal isn't welcome back at his school. Seriously heart broken here. Good thing I arranged a meeting yesterday with the realtor about how to get this ####### place sold.I guess the good news is that this will finally push Mrs. SLB away from the Catholics forever. #### you Cal's school and #### your religion of "forgiveness" and "helping people" you ####### hypocrites. Go ruin some more little boys lives you pedophile enablers.
That's pretty harsh. I send my first-grade daughter to a private school, and one of her classmates has behavioral difficulties. He got booted out once, but was allowed to return. Their goal is to keep him in--they even went so far as to ask the other parents of the kids in the class if they had concerns about him returning. Every other parent said to let him back in. Hope it works out for you guys.

Happy Fathers Day, fellas. We fart a lot in here but I know there are some great dads in this thread.
:hifive:So what are people planning for this? I'm leaning toward taking Stu Jr to an early showing of the new X-Men movie. His current "I want to see that" movies are this and Green Lantern, so I'll chose the one that doesn't look like a steaming pile. After that we'll probably try the new In-N-Out Burger and then spend the remainder of the afternoon at the pool. Then maybe watch game 6 again in the evening.

why does the school care about your house being sold?
Because we need to move away from the area we are in to get in a better public school district. He's in private school now.

It was built on a graveyard where they'd only moved the headstones, but the bodies were still underneath.

Asked my daughter what she wanted to do for Father's Day. She chose fishing and a picnic. Asked her what she wanted for the picnic: a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. I'm pretty sure I'm raising her right.

They really are rotten places. Catholic schools really aren't run in a "Christ-like" manner, they're operated (much like the rest of the Catholic Church) to make money. If a kid is causing waves and they have a waiting list of other kids who are willing to pay, gone. My BIL got kicked out of a Catholic school when he was 13-14 for selling dope. Now he wasn't a hardened criminal or malicious in any way, he got off-track a little bit and started hanging out with kids who were a bad influence. Gone.Ms. GPJ, who was raised Catholic, and I made the decision before we even had kids to skip private schools entirely. We shelled out the extra coin to get into a town with good school districts so we'd never have to deal with them.

The ironic this is I was asked not to come back to public school when I was in the first grade and was sent to the school Cal goes to now. Of course things were much different back in the day with discipline etc. I ended up doing 11 years hard time.Good move on scouting the school districts. When we bought this house it looked very probable that we would never have children thanks to some issues with Mrs. SLB so I wasn't very concerned about it.ETA And you are 100% correct on your assessment of the school, they pretty much admitted as much.

:goodposting: I love a great rant! #### em!

Got a job offer from my second choice. Told them I would get back to them tomorrow afternoon. The money is fine, the commute is very reasonable. My first choice told me they would get back to me tomorrow. The money is similar, the commute is a little longer, but manageable. The second choice is a large public corporation based in Nashville. :bag: The first choice is a non-profit (but very successful) based here in Austin. What's the shark play here? Leaning toward waiting until about noon, then emailing the first choice to see what's up. What say you?
Who's the corp in Nashville?

Why do they care about your house selling??
LOLI think he just means that Cal isn't welcome back. So, if they don't sell the house, they need to find a new school for him.The wording confused me too. Made it seem like the school was saying "If you don't sell your house, your kid is kicked out. But if you do sell your house, he's welcome to stay."Sorry GB. That sucks. Good luck with the home sale.

That sucks, guy.I couldn't agree more with you on the Catholic school thing. I went to public school K-8 and then Catholic HS. What I learned most in those 4 years was how very "unChristian" large groups or organizations made up of Catholics are.

I think this is unfair to the catholics in that I'm willing to bet that this statement applies to just about any group built upon a dogmatic foundation.

HCA. Both jobs are in Austin; I don't know if I made that clear.Update: Talked to the guy at Seton. He can't get the offer through today, but he insists I am his first choice. They remain my first choice, but only by the thinnest of margins. I think I have to accept the HCA job and hope they don't want me to start on Monday.

Serious question, what have they done to try and help Cal? I know he has had some difficulties with reading (we discussed his situation with my son's situation a while back) and it boggles my mind that they wouldn't be bending over backwards trying to help him. I know that the public school my son goes to has helped him tremendously with specialists and the like. As an aside I went to a Catholic school and would never want my kids to go through the crap I had to at that school.Keep your chin up, both you, MRS SLB and Cal will get through this

It's pretty much like that among most Catholics IMO. I was raised in a very devote family and often envision the story of Jesus laying waste to all the moneychangers, merchants, etc and driving them out of the Temple and how he would react to the current Catholic church. I imagine it wouldn't be pretty.

Yeah, I would take the second choice. You never know if the other guy's going to say he's willing to take less money, or there could be a delay, etc. Bird in hand and all that.

On another note, as the communications guy I end up getting stuck on a lot of these "company spirit" committees. We're having a "50s" party at the office to celebrate 50,000 customers. When I asked if the party was going to be integrated or if we were going to force the blacks to throw their own party, people seemed mostly offended. That's funny, right?
I asked my colored friend and he said yes it's funny

Which nonprofit?
Seton.
Jesus ####, dude. That's an odd choice of descriptors. I realize that they're technically a nonprofit, but:
Seton is a ten-hospital system generating $1.5 billion of net revenue.
Anyhow, my wife has a fair amount of experience with the small nonprofit world, so I thought I might be able to provide some additional advice, but I guess not.
Technically, they're run by the Daughters of Charity. :lmao:
:lmao: That sounds like George Costanza's make believe "Human Fund".

They most they have done to help Cal is give him a snack in the afternoon. Private institution, they don't have to deal with them if they don't want to. Fine, their call. You must be thinking of somebody else when it comes to the reading, he actually reads at a 4th grade level. His problem is the severe ADHD/Asperger's/autism, whatever. He's been on meds that have helped a lot but he still has these breakdowns.

IE, selling our house: Our long term plans wasn't/isn't to send Cal to this school for the next 7 years. The plan is to sell our house and move to a much better (almost anywhere) school district and send him to public school. He has gone through hours and hours of testing that I wrote about earlier in this thread so the SSD is waiting to help. I got just back from my walk, just in time because it has gotten really bad, and Mrs. SLB was starting to get really pissed. I appreciate the kind words from you guys so I'll tell you the same thing I told her, I'll work this out. We'll buy a new house in a couple of weeks and be done with it. #### it.

Some weird number just called my mom's house and said they were going to serve papers on my Aunt's ex-husband. They've been divorced over 20 years and my parents have no connection with this guy. The phone number only said "Service" and when I look it up on-line nothing really comes up except a few spam calls.

Seems like a scam. Anybody ever hear of a service of process scam??

I had to attend a catholic funeral a couple of weeks ago, I was hella hungover, horrible cottonmouth, went up to take Eucharist, and nearly yacked on the padre. That ####### horrid wafer sucked every last vestige of moisture from my mouth, shoving an entire roll of paper towels into my mouth could not have created a more arid bone dry situation. When I was a kid my father coached football at a Catholic high school. The one huge advantage was mass with the team before the game. Literally in and out in under 20 minutes. Welcome, reading, reading, gospel, communion, "go out and win today men!" First Sunday of every football season my mother would try to get us to go to mass, and me and my brothers were flying out the door to play, "no way ma, we went to mass yesterday!"

Now my mother goes to mass 3x a week and my father hates everything about the church and that school. Bunch of frauds. And I still effectively use the "I went yesterday" story with my mom.

:lol:My parents always made me go too. When I came home from my two year stint in Springfield, I noticed they weren't going any more. I asked them about why they weren't going any more and they gave me some bull#### response about trying to be good parents. Jerk offs. :lmao:

Asked my daughter what she wanted to do for Father's Day. She chose fishing and a picnic. Asked her what she wanted for the picnic: a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken. I'm pretty sure I'm raising her right.
XPopeyes >>>>>> KFC
Agreed, but no Popeyes around here. KFC is the only game in town for fried chicken.
Popeye's chicken is my standard Father's Day meal - mix of spicy and original, and a big side of beans and rice. We're taking that, plus a 6-pack, for a picnic dinner to the weekly Sunday afternoon outdoor concert series that's held at an estate-type place near us. It's a cool place and a lot of fun, though the usual crowd is a little older and semi-snobbish. Which is why I always enjoy breaking out the Popeye's spread and starting to drink in violation of the lightly enforced "no outside alcohol" policy.
