We're looking at dogs, and I have this sinking feeling my worst fear is going to be realized. I thought my wife and daughter were all sold on the idea of adopting a boxer, but it seems my daughter didn't quite grasp the idea that the puppies she's looking at now aren't going to stay anywhere near that size. She wants something smaller that can sit in her lap. Or at least come close to it. Is there a halfway decent dog that qualifies and won't make me want to dropkick it into the pool? Yappy and hyper is unacceptable.

I used to be the same way until I got my male boxer a few months ago. Not an issue. At all. And the boy personality is so different and so great. Love this guy.

My folks bought a male Maltese the summer before my senior year in high school. Great dog, lots of personality. It's lap size-ish, cute as can be, and the males don't yap. They may bark from time to time, but not a constant yapping. If you get one, be sure to keep the him in what's called the "puppy cut", which is short hair all around. There are people who grow the dog's hair out, brush it straight and put bows on them. Terrible.

Shih Tzu. Barely bark and do not shed. Although they do need to go to the groomers quite a bit. (our 2 go about every 8 weeks) Oh, and they are lap dogs so she would really love it.

But Coop and I were determined to sit out there and fish, despite multiple lost lures and several snags.

What's all this casting and lures stuff? Pretty sure you were advised against all that.Very glad to hear y'all stuck it out. Something about fishing and boys- you really should try and take him at least 2-3 times a year. You have learned you do not need to catch much to thrill him. And you should not have to drive very far from home to find a place where you can't catch much.

I took Cooper fishing off the coast last year for his birthday. It was a charter trip, but it was a blast. Caught a bunch of rockfish and cabazon. Delicious. We've gone a few times before and after and bring the rod to all camping trips. His brother just doesn't care for it much, but that's fine.I just wish I knew more about it than I do. My dad never really took me and I don't know much about it...I still can't tie the hooks or bobbers very well. I tried one of those San Diego knots, but stabbed myself and went back to about 15 square knots.

And what do you mean not to cast? How the hell am I supposed to get the bobber/hook/worm/lure over the shallow water? No dock here, no boat.

This knot is really easy and very dependable. I use this knot for attaching a swivel, leader or lure and have had very few problems with it.

Wasn't really in the mood for more macro-brew (sucked down a 12 pack of Coors Yellow Bellies camping) and wasn't really in the mood for heavy micro-brew (sucked down 9 of those on Friday before going into Wamic to buy Coors) so I bought this Landshark, not knowing what to expect. It's not bad. It's better with a lemon wedge. I finally caved to see where this beer is from and look at that - it's from St. Louis! Better than Budweiser?

If a beer tastes better with fruit, then that beer really sucks.

Gosh damn, the beer snobs are harsh. I suppose Corona's with a lime are awful too. Yet on a hot summer day, in the right setting, I enjoy them quite a bit.

I'm in a very small minority that doesn't regularly eat pancakes, which was odd to me. I never once saw my father eat a pancake. I haven't had one in a long time. I don't like the taste of syrup. Too sweet. I don't like cake frosting much either. They taste about the same to me. Just sickening sweet. I haven't craved sweets for breakfast since I was sitting around in homemade Underroos watching bad cartoons, quietly cursing my parents for never buying sugary cereal and refusing to get cable.I might need more therapy.

Try some pancakes with apple butter. Not sickeningly sweet like syrup. Tasty

Apple butter is good. I used to eat that on toast long ago. Good stuff. Never tried it on a pancake, though. When given a choice between pancakes or hashbrowns, I always choose hashbrowns. I love to dump pepper and hot sauce on them, then stir it around real good and toss in my eggs and breakfast meat. Then I like to fold it into my toast. That's a much better experience for me than a pancake.

But those two breakfast experiences are completely different and not comparable in my opinion. Any thing with eggs and breakfast meat is in its own category. Pancakes, waffles & french toast (any sweet) has its own category as well.

What do you mean they aren't comparable? We're talking about breakfast choices. What do you mean 'own category'? When I go to a restaurant, I see one menu. Most of them give me a choice between hashbrowns or pancakes with my order as a side. I don't think I've ever opted for pancakes over hashbrowns and I sure as hell haven't ordered a full stack of waffles or Dutch pancakes when an omelets is also an option.French toast? Do you guys eat Cookie Crisp cereal too?

I should have ended the the Corona sentence with a question mark instead of a period. I don't think Corona's are awful. Not the best beer out there, but give me one with a lime and I'm content, especially on a nice summer day near some water. I do not think Corona with a lime 'really sucks', which is why I was curious about Captain McBeer's comment above.

Labs a little big for lap sitting, no? I had a Lab/Newfie mix and she was obnoxious, ate everything, barked too much, but was 100% safe with my kids and they loved her. But she was also enormous and would have crushed a child's lap.My next dog: Get a female
