GM's thread about nothing (46 Viewers)

If I might be happy for a moment:

Aug. 9-13 - Dubai for work

Aug. 19-21 - New Orleans for friend's 30th birthday

Sept. 2-5 - sweet home Chicago for my birthday

Sept. 22 - Oct. 1 - Nicaragua and Panama, just because

I really need this. Feel like we haven't had a vacation since January, as our trips to Nicaragua since then have been house-related, and my trip to India was for work. Job has been particularly awful and suicide-inducing lately and need to get away.

ETA: Also my long-standing league draft on Sept. 9, which is pretty much the highlight of my year. :bag:

GM>does that guy have mercury in his bare hand? :tumbleweed:

Never mind the pinkie, it's a small thing ( )compared to nerve damage.
It's not mercury.
So what is the LiquidmetalTM-looking stuff?
I'm guessing gallium, the only element which melts from solid to liquid at room temperature. And which pickles mentioned a page ago. Didn't you people ever take Chemistry in high school?
Thorn, and also Pickles, are correct. That is gallium, which is a brittle solid metal that can melt at temps just slightly above room temperature. Gallium falls under the "Off-Exchange Traded Minor Metal" classification, which is the core of our portfolio holdings. Gallium is a by-product metal of aluminum bauxite and zinc ores. It has several applications, from thin-film solar panel (CIGS) to LEDs to cell phones...and that's just a few. There isn't a huge amount produced per year and like many metals, China is a dominant player. With more applications, we think there will be increased demand, but supply will struggle to keep pace. There just aren't gallium mines out there.

Happy for you Krista, and a little jealous.

I live in the ghetto ("Let's buy this 'fixer-upper.' It has SO much potential." = "Let's buy this pile in the slum that will cost us thousands, nearly ruin our marriage, and eventually depreciate in value back to the price we paid for it." ), and we don't get jack from the government. Though I do have some buddies in public works and they seem to take extra special care of the street and edges of my property after nasty weather.

Anyone else having trouble with Netflix instant streaming tonight?

I have no idea how or why this thing from the gas company works. Netflix was dogging it last night. About every 10 minutes it had to "retrieve". Haven't tried it tonight.

Are we doing this league or what?
Sounded like fun a week ago, but man, there's a lotta high level input on how it should be run.
Yeah, understood. I really think most of us don't care at all, though, and will be open to whatever is decided. People just got over-exuberant, perhaps.
I like the following ideas:- 24 teams broken into two 12-team divisions.

- $30 Entry Fee

- Rolling draft format with the app on 24/7 with a reasonable timer implemented

- Inflated scoring system

- Head Coach instead of Team Defense

- $100 "Cap" to use for bidding on free agents

- Teams in each division play eachother once; top 4-5 teams in each division advance on to playoffs with a possible bye for top team in each division. Format to follow

- Creation of a league trophy with a $50 cap on expense

- Possible allocation for charity of winner's choice?

This would be my suggestion if we had enough interest. I think we could get 24 from here.

Sounds perfect. IN.

Wow, unreal story I just heard/saw on the Giants telecast. They come back from a commercial break and show this old usher (mid 60's I'd guess) just standing there, smiling. Okay. Then their sideline gal starts explaining how they are happy to have him back at work and stuff. Great. Then goes on to explain how over 4th of July weekend a boat he was on capsized in Baja. Get this, the guy swam for 12 hours to survival. TWELVE! That is absolutely crazy he made it. Nobody else did. She said something about them still looking for the rest of the people...

Amazing story, will have to google it later. There he is, the old usher back at work.

Oh jesus. ####in A, I had Upton under 2.5 h+r+rbi. He was 0-fer so the only way I lose is if he hits one out. Lost track of the game because I'm typing this stupid feel-good story, hear a homer going out, and think, it better not be Upton. It was. :wall: LOSER, in the last AB too. Ugh...

You're a bigger baby than me. Since January? How have you survived so long? Where in Nicaragua did you buy? I'm no note taker and missed the story if it's been posted.

I met lee Iacocca tonight. Very cool guy. We talked about him eating whale with those "crazy Canucks" back in the day.

Very cool!

Put me down for the Fantasy Football thingy. shoot me a pm if it ever gets off the ground. GB
