GM's thread about nothing (28 Viewers)

Anyone know any good attorneys in Austin, or even Texas?
bigbottom (houston)
beaumont knows his stuff, too. surprisingly, he's in beaumont.
Forgot about Beaumont and I really like him. I think he's corporate too, but I'll send him a PM.
Is Beaumont 2 syllables or 3?
2Bo mawnt
It could be buh-oh-mont.

My First World Problem Of The Day:My wife informs me that our 7 YO son wants to play baseball. Of course my first reaction is overwhelming joy. These are the moments you daydream about as a father. The deadline to sign up is today. No problem, I will call and get it taken care of.Then my doubt starts to creep in. This group is for ages 3-8. My son, who is thin, fast as lighting and I would say athletic as any kid his age, has not shown one moment of interest in baseball. He knows nothing about the game, does not understand any of the rules, has never held a bat in his hand. The few times I could get him to play catch, he was not very good, and loss interest quickly. The shark move would be to not sign him up, get out there everyday playing catch, get him swinging a bat, teach him the game at his pace. But then he doesn't get in this season. Am I being paranoid about throwing my boy out there with kids where 90% of them are going to know 10 times more about the sport?
So I got him signed up on Monday, dropped 100 bucks for the season, and I get the inevitable email just now: how would you like to volunteer to coach? I said yes.Any hidden perks to being the coach for a bunch of 7-8 YOs??
On a non comical note, you'll likely remember this time years from now with a smile. During the season itself, you might be happy teaching one or two kids the basics of baseball. You might be happy watching some raw talent really perform well. But it's more likely you'll go crazy watching other teams stack talent and listening to parents with anger management issues scream when their child doesn't get the playing time at the position they want. Good luck! I remember I nearly got into a fight with one dad. Somebody even called the cops on him. He was banned from the league and I later discovered it wasn't the first league he had been booted from. That is sadly all too common. I hope you get some eager kids and helpful/understanding parents.

FYI / PSA:

I keep getting PMs and hints from folks to do something before the season starts. I gotta be honest and say that this year I have had a wait and see approach based on the way the Shark Pool is moving and also the shortened off season which I think hurts some of the players that are popular reaches for a lot of owners.

I'm confused. People are supposedly pming MOP to do.....something? Like what? Burn the house down? Openly petition for a staff job? Take up Zen and diminish his ego?

What means "do something"?
I think they want him to do this (:55 in) -

Is it weird that I'm proud of the fact I've gone two consecutive days without drinking?
 You were comatose for forty eight hours and a BOT program has been posting?Seriously, though, it was ####### that fat chick, right? Scared you straight. They should probably start making that a standard part of rehab.

If it wasn't for heavy girls with low self-esteem and alcohol I would probably still be a virgin today.

He's actually posting less this year.

OK, he's starting less threads.

You know who else is posting lest? timscroquet. Not sure why or if there is a correlation, but I am thankful for both developments.

You? No.
Cool. And in an unrelated matter, I'm absolutely DYING for a beer right now. :banned:
How much money would you need to quit drinking for a year? Assume perfect enforcement, so you can't sneak one here or there.
Wow, that's tough. You think Obama could get a new stimulus package passed? 'Cause I'm thinking that's the kind of neighborhood we'd be talking about.802!!!

Yeah, right. I was actually serious for a couple nanoseconds before I thought about it.

I was a huge Arsenio Hall fan back in the day. A few weeks ago I pulled up like 10 clips on youtube. (Ultimate Warrior, Eddie Murphy, going off on some gay dude in the audience, Vanilla Ice and some others) It was awesome.

Today I had a client specifically ask my boss to fire me because I was rude to them (guy on a board of directors kept interrupting me on a conference call, and I told him that if he kept being disruptive I was going to hang up). My boss told the client that I was the best lawyer in the state, and that if they weren't happy with my services they should go find another firm.

Yay.

I guess someone may have once said, "uh -oh Beaumont." But "uh-oh Vidor" (10 miles north) would be much more likely, Especially if the speaker was black.
