GM's thread about nothing (12 Viewers)

You cannot plan for 2-3 vacation days 8 months into the future? I cannot fathom that, but of that is your circumstance, god bless. That is not my life.
2-3 days, yes, and I could take 2-3 months off if I wanted to. I choose not to, because I know how much work it would require after the fact to catch up.I don't have an issue with 2-3 days, but extending to a week isn't appealing to me. To each his own.

I love to fish, but I think the likelihood of me actually fishing much is not high. Now drunk wakeboarding/skiing? I'm down. If we're on a lake with access to a boat, an innertube would be fun as well. Rafting would be awesome. GM, any overnight rafting experiences available so we can try peeing on rattlesnakes or is that just a Vegas thing?

Good point, charv. 2 stops on the way out for me on flights as well. FTS. Maybe I'll have some miles to burn. I might look at that tomorrow.

I'm down with wine/brewery trips, or sitting around drinking and watching meat sizzle on the grill.
This is pretty much me, except I'll fish while you get beaten black and blue on the water skis.

Yeah, I saw that too... that could be a challenge.
we might need to places.
Any of those places around there that have like a bunch of cabins on a river or lake? Like a small private thing? We might could get an option on something like that that would give us time to collect money, confirm reservation, etc., before the last day for full refund of deposit.

Most places work out that either 4 or 5 days rental is the same as a week. So if you can take of 3 days and a weekend, that's five days. Say you can get wed - sun off no prob, but some other guy can get sat - tue? Since 4-5 days cost the same as a week, why not buy the flexibility for both of you to make a nice trip out of it?

A boat is not a necessity. I would think handling the logistics regarding the people involved would be the first priority after setting a date.

By the way: what did I just stumbled into on Animal Planet right now? It's a show called "Mud Lovin' Rednecks" based in Alabama. I live here and I'm dumbfounded by what I'm watching so far. 70 year old woman just scarfed down a jello shot and later took a swig straight out of a handle of some kind of liquor after falling down.

Yeah, even Scupper's place was a series of 3 different cabins altogether.Thursday through Sunday is enough reason for me to consider making the trip. I'm not staying there an entire week. (Basically I agree with charv)

Pretty sure rover will find a way to get us at least one boat. It only seats 4-5, but its not like we all have to fish at the same time.

exactly... there's a reason MH was never more than 3 days, and ZA is another good example. People go out hard and accelerate until they hit a wall. That usually happens day 2-3.

hmm... we might just be talking about 2 different kind of trips. I have a feeling cos is thinking fishing 1st, with some cornholing, and GM/Jp/me Cornholing 1st, with fishing as one of the possible activities.

Once you get past 5-6 people involved, multiple interests need to be considered. Options are key. That was one of the beautiful things about weekends at Scupper'ss. Lots of stuff available: pontoon boat, ski boat, Guitar hero, arcade donkey kong, fishing, horseshoes, ping pong, golf, casino, strip club, hot tub, fire pit hangout, and I'm probably missing something.

:goodposting: options is the key word I think...

...but I do want to point out: I'm flexible. I would've learned how to play fake guitar eventually and been just as happy as I was pursuing other interests at MH. I'd even go on a nature hike with GM thinking I might see a sasquatch, or at least think I saw a sasquatch due to my current chemical brain chemistry.

I'll keep looking for the right spot/location. I'm certainly aware it's a pain in the butt to get out here and the last thing I want to do is pick a spot that's another 3 hours away by car after people have spent 4-5 hours in the air. Tricky dance, but we can figure it out.And you left out poker. I really enjoyed playing that at MHI and would have liked to do more of that and less of watching you guys play Guitar Hero, but I don't think Gatorman wanted me in on his poker games. :kicksrock:

Watching fake guitar all weekend was my least favorite thing about Mellyhole III. That and my lack of consciousness for 89% of it.

Gator didn't want me in his card game either, I think, but that didn't stop me.Once we get a date set, dodging certain hang-ups like Memorial Day, Father's Day, and 4th of July, we could start researching properties. I'm guessing we'll need to work on a 2 house deal if enough people were involved. It's still possible, but would add another wrinkle.I could sleep on an air mattress or a couch. Good chance I'll pass out somewhere I'm not supposed to be anyway.

I have trouble convincing myself to meet dudes from the internet. So, the guys that have to do it with their wives crack me up to no end. :lmao: I would love to hear that conversation.

EDIT: 9
You should have been there during Sunday Tailgating at PJ20. Explained the many times I've had to explain to Mrs. TF on "What I was doing" and "Who I was going with" for all of the FBGs that I have to TU and BeTheMatch. She's actually met Zilla, KidC, Gator, JoeT, Jplvr, Wilked and CGRDRJoe
Whatever happened to the cigar doc?

CGRDRJoe = Cigar Doctor Joe

Don't underestimate picking up a mattress and throwing it on top of the car for an hour ride while having to reach your hands out of the rear passenger window in order to make sure the mattress doesn't fall.that was fun

Hood River?

Perched atop a peaceful, forested ridge, Panorama Lodge is a comfortable, 7 bedroom log home with breathtaking views of Mt. Hood and the Hood River Valley. Look out to a verdant valley of pear, apple and cherry orchards.

Great place for retreats, sport teams, weddings and reunions. Our lodge is outfitted for flexibility. We can sleep couples or up to 22 singles in separate beds. A favorite lodging option for bicycle or other sports teams. Ask for a floor plan.

Relax on our full-length deck where vibrant flowers frame every vista. Enjoy the serenade of local birds, quail and wild turkeys. You'll enjoy the call of owls at night. Gather on our large flower lined deck with Mt. Hood at your feet.

Yet we're less than four miles from Hood River where shops, world-class restaurants, brew pubs, art galleries and theatre await.

Mountain bike and hiking trails are just up the road and windsurfing and kite sailing are only three miles away. Ask about trails, must-see places and view spots. Lots of local information.
Hood River is about 60 miles east of Portland down the Columbia River Gorge. It's the windsurfing/kitesurfing capital of the world, home of Full Sail Brewery, several wineries and fun little town. Great place for us to base ourselves with plenty of options. July 16th is open for the linked resort and this spot could fit as many as 25 people. $550 a night would be $1650 for 3 nights which would be $82.50 per person if we had 20 people sign up for this, less if we got 25.

For those who wanted a LONGER trip to Portland, I would recommend finding your own lodging for the other nights you were in town...perhaps it would be a good way to see another part of the state? The coast? Downtown? But I think 3 nights is plenty of time for a cornhole and I would give Hood River my vote.

Looks like June/August are booked up already for this spot, so if we wanted to do this, we'd need to get moving.

fyi, TU and I are already discussing his first LSU game attendance. Seems like you need to make this trip to Tuscaloosa as well. Would be easier to find two tickets than one, I'm guessing and you seem to have a knack for finding cheap tickets into the game as well.July 16th? Sounds like we'll get to celebrate my 36th birthday. Honestly, if we have that many people involved, something like that would probably be ideal. I'm guessing there are lots of options available and if someone wants one activity over the other, I would guess multiple activities would be a short car ride away. 3 people might want to fish... bfd, hop in the car and show up at the lodge for dinner. Golf? Same differnece. Wine/beer tour? Covered. I wouldn't be too worried about jumping into confirmations just yet, but I think that's the right direction.

"Honey, what would you say if I went to Oregon next summer?"

"Wait. What? Like the state?"

"Yeah."

"What for?"

"Umm you know FBGs right? Well a bunch of people are planning a get-together next summer. It would only be a weekend"

"You're a ####### dork."

"Well yeah. You married me"

"What if I'm pregnant? Would you leave me?"

"Are you pregnant?"

"Not yet"

<baby making music>

"So seriously....Oregon?"

if the Bills go to the Super Bowl, F Oregon...let's all meet up in Indianapolis to celebrate the victory! There's probably some ice fishing in February there. Not much else though.
My wife has extended family there. I think one of them found Peyton Manning's dog once after he got out. He was appreciative, and is apparently a pretty normal chap. But, not a REAL exciting town.

I am IN for LSU/Bama. TF, you should come out. Oh, and July 16th is my birthday.

Brag: Bet McCoy and McFadden (and Rice) to win the rushing title. McFadden at +2200, the other two at +2000.

Oh and Arian Foster. But I just took him off the board.

Basically, you want to please two groups. Group 1: Fishing, hunting, hiking, sasquatch spotting, etc.Group 2: Booze, bars, titty joints, gambling, etc.If you can find a middle ground that's close to Portland, you're everyone's hero.

Wife working in Phoenix for the next 3 months, basically home every other weekend. Say a prayer and slap it high?

Since we're getting into some gambling talk, check this out. I have a sizable chunk on Matt Cain under 13 1/2 wins on the season. He's at 12. I have the same chunk of change on the Giants under 88 1/2 wins on the season. They're at 84, with 6 remaining. 3 of those at home against Colorado who they just swept at Colorado. Colorado has completely quit and is starting AAA players. I expect the Giants to sweep those.SOOO, not only is Cain going tonight but it's against AZ, of course. This game doesn't get any bigger, for me anyway. And by moving Cain up in the rotation today, he now gets two starts. Cain's stuff is filthy tonight too, I'm screwed. Only 59 pitches through 5 too. Meanwhile, Saunders has been lucky to only give up 1 so far.Pray for me.Beer 5.
Good start. Not sure how much it helps your wins on the season bet, though, as there's no telling what the D-backs throw out there tomorrow now.
Yeah, thought about that but what's the alternative, ya know? Cain at home against the Rockies next week was nearly a lock so this was basically it. Been rooting for Atlanta and Saint Louis so the giants would pack it in as well, but they haven't exactly been helping things. Anyway, that inadvertently ended up the most I'd ever had riding on a single baseball game. 11.
Or, you know, something else entirely. Way to call it a season, Giants.
