Posting from Melbourne, host of the Final Match for Australian Rules Football which was earlier today.
Anyway, this is a big deal here and one of the teams is from the area so the whole city was captivated by the event. There were huge tv screens outside showing the games, the bars were packed, everyone wearing the team's colors, stores shut down so the workers could watch the game, etc. Like the Super Bowl for this sport.
I watch the game and the local team makes a great comeback to tie it up late. Then time runs out. I'm looking forward to overtime only to find out that there won't be any. Instead, both teams will show up again a week from now and they'll replay the entire game next Saturday at the same time.
What a buzzkill for all the fans who figured they'd get to see a champion determined today. But, I guess it gives everyone another huge party day a week from now. Still, really weird though. Not even sure how the tickets work. If you buy a ticket and the game ends in a tie, do you automatically get to go a week from now as well or do you have to buy a new ticket?
What if the US did things this way?
