GM's thread about nothing (36 Viewers)

So at the company secret Santa I got a gift certificate to a "salon and lounge for men." :hifive: Listen, just because I can dress myself, cook for myself, and am unmarried, does not mean that I want to go get a ####### manicure or a 39 dollar "cut, luxury shampoo, stress relief, aroma therapy towel wrap (whatever the #### that is) and style."

And note to my young hipster dufus co-worker whose sexuality I question - the fact that they "let you bring your own beer" doesn't change the ### #### analysis. When I go to get a haircut, I want to go in, get my hair cut, and get out. When I want to hang out and drink, I go where men actually do that - a bar.

maybe i'm doing it wrong :coffee:

The private school I went to became a repository of public school refugees.
:confirmed:We were the biggest bunch of delinquents you could find. In the 8th grade, you got to go on a 3 day trip to Chicago at the end of the year, unless you happened to get suspended sometime during the year. It wasn't all that easy, for most kids in the school, to get suspended. We had 32 boys in my class and 16 of us were suspended at least once during the year.
At my school we have a Disneyland trip. It used to be an overnighter to Catalina. When a kid doesn't qualify to go due to behavior problems we use the term "self-select out". As is "Tyler self-selected himself out of Disneyland when he shoved Micah's head in the toilet."

Zaxxon self-selected out when he asked to be ###### while his head was in the toilet.

I'd like to self-select myself out of tonight's festive "tacky xmas sweater" party, but I'm unable to opt-out because my wife and kids are giddy as goats to go to this....thing.

I went to Godwill (first, last and only time I do that) to try and find a tacky xmas sweater, but I didn't really find anything remotely close to a festive sweater. So I bought an extra large t-shirt from some Jingle Bell run benefiting Arthritis. That's right...not Cancer or Lupos or Lou Gherig's Disease or something that might actually be terminal, no. Arthritis. Don't they take asprin for that?

Can't wait to wear stranger's clothes.

So, I'm an ####### and while sitting on the dock tonight, I stupidly let my iPhone drop into the water. I know Apple/AT&T still has the monopoly on this.... anyone have any other suggestions on how I might replace?

US Cellular around those parts? Free phones for new customers right now, including Android and Blackberry phones.

I can't get past this part of it either. I feel gross right now just thinking about it. I've shopped at Goodwill for Halloween clothes, but never could find anything... not that I even tried anything on.YSR> Refurb then wait out Verizon launching the iPhone? I was told at a Christmas party by a rep they can't even talk about it right now, but January 1st should be huge for them. He kept being all cryptic, so if they don't end up getting the stupid things in January, I'm going to drive 4 hours to kick him in the balls because he wouldn't just tell me specifically that they'd have them by "XX/XX/11."I'm running away from AT&T like it's herpes.

I accidentally killed my brand new iphone 4 earlier this year when I jumped in a lake and forgot it was still in my pocket. i went down to the Apple store and they replaced it on the spot for $200 . I was worried I'd have to pay full price since I couldn't exactly sign another 2-year contract with AT&T but they didn't care at all and have a supply ready just for schmucks like us.Also, insurance doesn't cover water damage and they can tell if the phone was killed by water. If you don't mind spending another $200, it was a surprisingly painless process to replace. If you don't have an Apple store nearby, I assume you could call them and ask them what to do.

Good to know. We have an Apple store here - hoping they won't be turds about this. BF ended up going next door to the neighbors who have a pool and grabbing their skimming net. He brought it over to our dock and after 5-6 sweeps (during which he had a good 1/2 armful of sludge), we fished out my phone. It's sitting in rice now. We'll see. :rolleyes:Someone please bookmark this post for when I am ever tempted to complain about him (his parents are excluded from this). He is far better a man than I deserve.

I've heard something about the fridge for drying out a phone... I don't think it was the freezer. As you can see, I can't remember what was actually suggested, but I think it involved a ziplock bag. This could be directions for something drug related too. I never know.

FYI my Uncle is a Director for VZW on the consumer side. When the iPad came out he didn't find out until the day before the launch when his boss, some VP, called him and told him it was launching the next day. Doubt a rep would know much unless they are very high up in the org.

Am I a bad dad for posting that about Cal? ;)
Nope, I owe you some thanks actually, we are going through something similar with our oldest. Very hard time learning (he's in 1st grade) and gets visibly frustrated. The way he acts out is by trying to be Mr funny-man, and gets in trouble for disrupting the class. Trying to work through that and watch him struggle is incredibly hard so I feel your pain in that regard.

Mex & Kev, thanks, you both make a solid point.

GM, I got your card today. I just noticed it open on my desk. Countdown to her asking me wtf you are starts......now!!

Thanks GB, Cal is in the 1st grade too, for now. I'm going to go pour me a whiskey, roll a joint and watched Scrooged! in your honor. I hope things work for you too.

Thanks, hope you and the Mrs get through this with Cal in short order. Draining my first Breakfast Stout of the night.

 Cosjobs wife gives Cosjobs an armfulof crap every year when he gets my card. I think she even teases him a little for having 'internet friends'.

No need to send a card, GB. I just threw it in with the thank you note and thought it might be funny to catch your wife's reaction.

Best of luck to you and your family, GB. If either of you ever have any questions at all, my mom taught at one of the best private schools in Dallas for children with ADHD, Dyslexia and other learning blocks. She's got more credentials than a 5-star general. I'd be happy to pass her any questions or concerns you might have. She's an expert in this arena and so let me know if you ever need some input from Momma Malaise.

:sadbanana: I replied to Bob's long post about Cal earlier today. No idea what happend to it.
 Why on earth would THAT be deleted? I know guys like you are on a short leash, but I'm surprised something like that would vanish. We do a lot of 'delete worthy' things in this thread, but your post on this topic wasn't one of them.

Thanks GM, we are thinking Dyslexia might be part of the issue. He mixes up numbers all the time and often in words. So we'll see. Getting his eyes/ears checked as the first step, depending on those results will determine next steps.

I will send my address to anyone who has extra Christmas cards. We have no friends here.

PM for details.

I don't think anybody likes to jump to conclusions like I do.

Up in the burbs of Chicago GB.

Up in the burbs of Chicago GB.
Good. Bigger the city, the more resources available to you. My mom's school did evaluations for kids your son's age. I would bet there are some fabulous schools in Chicago that can help diagnose and devise a plan of action. Some of the best and brightest children in the city of Dallas attended my mom's school. Once they were able to remove certain learning blocks, many of these kids went on and absolutely thrived in mainstream schools and college.

We are pretty lucky that we have the Illinois branch of he International Dyslexia Association fairly close so I am very confident that we can get him the help he needs once we figure it out. He's a bright kid but struggles with reading/writing and numbers/math. Once we can figure out how he learns he should be fine, but getting there is proving to be more of a challenge than I thought.

Thanks GM, I'll remember your Mom. Your handwriting sucked but was better than mine. Krista posted my thank you note, you be the judge. I'll give you a D.

YSR, everybody in the football got a card. I would send you one but it might put your boyfriend on a plane to St. Louis.

Do you know how may cats there are in this country? /scrooged
