Damn, that sucks.
I'm seriously destroyed by this. I drank semi heavily last night. My stomach still hurts. This guy meant a lot to me and my family. There have been a lot of good times. I skipped the annual fishing trip after Thanksgiving last year since my FIL just passed. Hard to believe there won't be another with his famous blackened steaks.Found out last night that on Friday his wife thought something was wrong with him but he refused to go to the hospital. Our GB, Tony, was a big man with a large prison tattoo on the top of his left hand in the shape of a spade. I'm only revealing this to give some insight to why his wife didn't press the issue. Most people just didn't argue with him. Yesterday morning he went to use the bathroom and collapsed. His wife called 911 and they revived him in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. He thanked they EMT's, made some jokes and a couple of minutes later went into cardiac arrest and died.I guess what makes me really sic is his poor wife. They have been married for 30+ years but she had a son from a previous marriage that killed himself in their house a couple of years ago. I was never as close to her as him and I feel pretty helpless to do anything meaningful to ease her pain.

Bob, you're due for something great to happen soon.
Things are challenging right now for sure in my life. But you know what, I'm a pretty lucky guy that has had a lot of great things happen to him already. From what I've read on this board, having a large family that loves each other is pretty rare. That has always been the norm for me and most of my best friends. I have two sons that I love more than life itself. Not to mention a beautiful wife who has been my best friend for more than half my life. You would probably be amazed at how much she loves me and after all of the years, I'm still more in love with her than ever. And since I'm pouring my heart out here, I have the feeling I don't come across as "me" on this board at times. Maybe it is paranoia or the insecurity I feel sometimes in my lack of formal schooling and I don't think things I type come across as I mean them. The main reason I spend my time here is to try and make people laugh. I like making people feel good. So if some of my life stories sound like bragging or anything else, I can assure you it isn't. Basically I'm just a guy cursed with a big heart that can sense the slightest bit of pain and worry in the people I care about. So if any PM's I've sent to some of you over the years were intrusive, I apologize. Along those same lines, Early, you and your family are in my thoughts and I hope everything works out.penis

love you

I try to be polite at away venues but in memory of old times I went to the information desk and asked them where they put the national championship trophies.
Really?
Really. Can;t a brother have a little fun?
You're a Missouri fan right?
This has nothing to do with being a Mizzou fan. I would've called you out if you were a fan of any team in any sport.

Sorry for your pain Bob. I'm sure she'd appreciate just hearing that you'll miss him. Maybe drop by in a few months to see how she's making out. I'm sure the week of a funeral with everyone around is well..not easy but helpful. It's the weeks later that I'd fear, being alone.

In the middle of all that you're still thinking about your friends. This is why we love you. I've been called to testify in court. I've never been anywhere near a court except for the time my mom fought a speeding ticket. Either way, everything here will be fine. I know it.

For a 5 second bit of fun? Me thinks the witness is prejudiced.

:)If you want to see OU's 1988 men's basketball championship trophy, it's in an old building on the west side of Naismith Drive.

You'd be wrong. There are plenty of KU fans that I get along with. I don't like people that act like tools, especially about something as meaningless as sports.
Sports? Meaningless?!?! What the........I'm deepy deeply sorry I have offended your sensibilities. Now gird up your loins for battle sir. The Phog is rolling into Colombia next Saturday. Hint: Guard Mo Morris at the top of the key. He crushes the three pointer in secondary transition.

Big 12 bball refs are the absolute suxor of the universe. If any of them call NCAA tournament games, it's a travesty. T&P if your favorite team has to play under them. :lmao:
 I'm a KU fan and went down to OU to see the game this weekend. There were at least three times a foul was called when no physical contact was made between the players whatsoever. Not getting into this peeing match, just wanted to post this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaZIAXJJDKQ

Thank guys. I meant to type "I know I am" after "You would probably be amazed" in my OP. After all, I can be quite the idiot & #######.

Great to see you back Bobby.

Lawyerish and business type people:

Tell me if this sounds fishy or at least not kosher.

For those of you that don't know I am a wedding officiant/minister on the side. I got a call from a woman at the county clerk's office. She was letting me know that starting this month the county clerk's office will no longer be compiling or distributing the list of registered wedding officiants.

Note: Long story but about 4 years ago the local courthouse stopped performing wedding ceremonies. If people want to get married they can get their license there at the courthouse but have to go somewhere else and pay a minister or officiant to perform the ceremony.

Up until now the clerk's office gave couples a list of the names and numbers of officiants registered with the court. I probably get 4 or 5 calls per month from people who got my name off of that list.

I do not know why the clerk's office isn't going to be compiling/handing out this list anymore. That's not the problem. The chick from the clerk's office told me that from now on they will have a list available that is from the local Bridal Association. The Bridal Association is not a government entity but a private business. You have to pay to be a member of the association. The "benefits" of being a member are being listed in their "bridal book", being able to set up a booth at the yearly bridal fair, and getting leads when brides contact them.

My question is: Is it wrong for the county to only distribute this list from the association? Technically aren't they playing favorites here? It doesn't sound like a big deal but to me it just seems fishy. People that pay to join a private organization will now be given preferential treatment from a government office.

I mean what is the difference between them posting this list and me simply leaving a stack of my business cards right next to the window where people apply for their marriage license?

Am I wrong in thinking this?

ETA: Might have jumped the gun on this. Got an email from the clerk chick. She let me know that anyone can can be put on the list free of charge as long as they are a registered officiant. Although I know the guy that runs the Association and how he operates. I'm interested to see how he compiles the list and if he really lists everybody that asks.

Really? You're about as smart as they come, from what I can see. And there's no question about your heart. Don't know what the "you" really is, but there's no one that I think of more highly among my ifriends.

Did someone say that you can join the Amercian Legion if your father was a vet?
If they did, that person was wrong. The VFW is pretty damn picky about their membership. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a member of the VFW to drink at a VFW. I used to drink beer at our local VFW club in high school.
 You can join as a social member. Membership is usually cheaper. I think my Dad pays either $5 or $10 a year for his social membership at the local VFW. Also, if I'm not mistaken, the VFW and American Legion are 2 separate clubs.
VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) =/= American Legion. Legions have a "sons" program. Pay the same dues and have a vote, if you ever wanted to attend a meeting.
Good call. I was fairly intoxicated when I posted that last night and completely whiffed on the whole American Legion vs. VFW thing. I stand by my statement that we used to get loaded at the VFW when I was in high school.

Anyone good at dream analysis?

I dreamed I was in the bathroom kneeling by the tub, I think bathing our shihtzu/poodle. I pull the plug and then see something black in the water, I think it's a mink. I back up startled and it gets out of the tub. It's not a mink, it's a cat. It's no longer black, it's brown tabby. I back up into a bed where my two younger sons are and see there are more cats walking around the floor, mostly kittens, but I'm afraid of them. There's 4 or 5 total. I ask my youngest son to put them outside and he's picking them up and cuddling them. When I go out to the living room there's a dog that I think is ours but then notice there's two identical and I can't tell which one is ours. At one point I'm standing on the coffee table and it seems there's these kittens everywhere and the two dogs.

Serious answer? It's about the foster kids. There's two of them in the middle of your crazy-cat-lady collection of children, and you're not just worried about them, you're worried about what's going on and how it could impact your other children. You can't tell which one is yours? Think about it.

Yeah I get that it's about the current situation, I was trying to pick the bones out of it.

From Dream Moods:

Mink - To see a mink in your dream, symbolizes value, warmth, riches, or luxury. It also represents your understanding of your unconscious and its motivation.

Bath - To dream that you are bathing someone, suggests that you are seeking a closer connection with that person. It also points to your nurturing side.

Cat - To see a cat in your dream, symbolizes an independent spirit, feminine sexuality, creativity, and power. It also represents misfortune and bad luck. The dream symbol has different significance depending on whether you are a cat lover or not. (I'm a cat person)

Dog - To see a dog in your dream, symbolizes intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. The dream suggests that your strong values and good intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and bring you success. The dream dog may also represent someone in your life who exhibits these qualities. Alternatively, to see a dog in your dream, indicates a skill that you may have ignored or forgotten. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it indicates some inner conflict within yourself. (the dog wasn't vicious but clearly it should have been!)

You're worried that eventually you'll lose your sons to some girl who you don't trust will turn them against you.

The canned dream symbolism stuff is crap.Bostonfred is correct. If I were to psychoanalyze, I would say that subconsicously you are afraid that committing to the foster children by adopting them will threaten the well being of your natural children financially, emotionally, etc. At some level in your mind there's a line between your natural children and the children you are fostering and you are afraid of that line getting blurred.

Do people (mental health professionals especially) really still believe that dreams actually mean something?

Dreams absolutely provide insight into what is going on in your subconscious. Predetermined definitions are meaningless but taken in context the symbolism in dreams is very relevant

Have you ever had a dream where you heard a siren, then realized it was your alarm clock? Ever had a dream where your arm got hurt, then you realized you were sleeping on it wrong? Ever gotten a totally random song like Lady In Red stuck in your head, and then realized it was because you'd seen a woman in a red dress earlier? Your mind makes leaps all the time. I don't think you should overanalyze it, and I agree that the canned stuff is about worthless, but sometimes you're stressing out about stuff and you might not even realize it.

Is that useful? Maybe. You might be repressing something, and a dream can bring it to the forefront. Like a bad pain you've gotten a couple times in your stomach, and then you have a bad dream about it, and you realize you've been really nervous about what that pain is and just trying not to think about it. If that gets you to the doctor, more power to you. You might be agonizing over a decision, and deep down you know the right decision, or you are worried about something but afraid to say it out loud. If the dream helps you realize that, then cool.

Maybe the most useful part of dream analysis is that it gives you a low impact way to analyze stuff that you might not otherwise have thought of. If I asked Early, what are you most worried about with this decision, she might not articulate all of the little things she's thinking about, or be afraid to say some of them. But when we talk about the dream, she can say, maybe this represents that, and I can say, maybe it means something else, and it's easier on her because we're talking about the dream, not the thing that scares her.

I don't know that there's any real science to it, but if someone mentions a dream when they're already having a tough stretch, I think it's totally worthwhile to talk about it.
