Another food question...going over to a friend's house on Saturday for a BBQ. He's cooking ribs and we're supposed to bring a side. I came up with baked beans or mac and cheese. Any other suggestions/recipes?
Not a new suggestion from what you already planned, but the following is excellent..."Brown 1 lb hamburger, drain. One, maybe two apples chopped and I usually add half a red onion during browning to cook the hell out of it.In the pan you will bake in, mix 4, 15 oz cans pork and beans, 1/4-1/2 cup raisins 2 tablespoons ketchup, 2 teaspoons mustard, about a half cup of dark molasses. I normally toss in about 2 tablespoons chipotle powder too. Bake 350 for at least an hour until the top is darkened."The quote is via my wife when I asked for this recipe for a bbq recently. Really solid, easy, and gets destroyed every time. Very tasty. I think the next time that I make them I will use a darker baked bean and cut some of the molasses, but this is easy and a winner.

Cooked a new fish last night - Swai. Baked it in a nice fajita marinade and made burritos with cuban black beans and plenty of peppers. good eating.
How do I turn my regular can of black beans into cuban black beans?Serious and sarcastic answers appreciated
put them on a raft headed toward Miami
:lmao:Tiger, I have no idea if this is a 'recipe' for Cuban black beans or not, but this is what I do at least once a week and sometimes more. I eat a lot of black beans. Very good for you. However, I might cook the good parts right out of them.In a saucepan, coat the bottom with olive oil and turn the heat to high. When it's good and hot, dump in minced up garlic, onions and red/orange peppers. If the kids aren't eating, I'll add jalapenos or seranos too. Saute the mix for a few minutes, adding a little Tony's and cracked pepper to the process. Turn the heat down to medium high and add one to two cans of DRAINED black beans. Add about 1/4 - 1/3 can/bottle of any beer. More beer for two cans. Stir well.Add a pinch of oregano, garlic powder, paprika and more Tony's and cracked black pepper (how much depends on personal taste).Add at least 1 Table Spoon of Cumin. This is the key ingredient. I sometimes add up to 2 Table Spoons. Seems like a lot, but I think it's great here. I also add 1-2 fresh bay leaves. If the kids aren't eating, I'll add a dash of Cayenne. If the kids are eating, I'll use a dash of chili powder instead.Bring everything to a boil, stir well, turn the heat down to low, cover and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, stirring often. You can leave the lid off if you want, but I like trapping all the goodness in there and really letting it simmer. Not sure if that's Cuban Black Beans or not, but it's how I make them and they are a family/friend favorite. People ask me to bring them to parties and they go great with any burritos.

This sounds wonderful. I hate actual onions unless they are mush and would pass on the red/orange peppers, but I plan to try this soon. :blackdot: ETA: not an actual edit, but I have no idea how to come back to this post later once there are 13 more pages here...how do I really blackdot something? I can scroll back, but that seems to be beside the original point.

Oh, another name from my summer school roster...Grafton.

Sounds like some sort of blimp to me.
Is there a school policy that prohibits you from being "friends" with hot female students on FaceBook? Your current list of friends isn't very "user-friendly", if you know what I mean.
:lmao: THEY'RE ONLY 13 or 14!**I'm hoping that discourages you.

Although there are several former students that I know (not FB friends) that are ridiculous.
What are their names? I kinda feel like you're not very motivated to upgrade your "friends list" so that I can have some eye candy to enjoy. It's like you don't even care about my masturbation needs. Way to be a team player, jerk-face.

Do men really notice things like nail polish and earrings? BEyond nails actually being dirty, would you care? And pedicures? I don't think men know women have feet.
Yes. Clear sign of good grooming habits.
:goodposting:Early - might be something that we only admit on message boards....but we always want our women to look good...no matter when. At the grocery, walking the kids in the neighborhood, etc.
Well coming from someone besides our resident male tramp, I'll buy it.

The apples and raisins already add a good amount of sweet, but are calmed by everything else. I was thinking about moving to a different bean because it would allow for a bit more heat while still keeping a great balance. I think maple syrup would be a bad direction to go without trying the basic recipe first. Too sweet.

Wife or beans?
How did you know about the parties we attend?ETA: both the beans and the wife tend to disappear quickly at these gatherings most of the time. Should I start hiding money, or is it too late?

edited again to make a question a question. Anyone have a lime they could share?

Since we're talking food.

I bought some ground turkey because it was on sale and was made to feel like I was being a good dad by buying a more healthy protein.

Does anyone have any recipe at all that makes this stuff vaguely palatable?

you mean without adding ground beef, sausage or taste to it? no.

First, take something you like made with ground beef and over spice it. Second, make sure it doesn't have any chance of being dry. Works great in some places, really sucks in others. Will look another day for recipes that turkey has been a good replacement. Tacos are decent when changing the meat, meatloaf not so much.

My sister and BIL went through a long and tedious phase where ground turkey was used for just about everything they made. I pitched a fit once when they served us turkey tacos and said if they were going to do that, to at least warn us so we could bring some real options to the table. Didn't go over very well.

Fair enough and I can get on-board with where you were coming from. The good thing about tacos is that when you cover them with enough crap you have no idea that the gobbler is there. Not a big fan, but exposed.ETA: 2:15 on the west coast doesn't relate well to after midnight out here. :banned:

I have no issues using ground turkey thigh meat as a substitute for beef. I've made tacos with it before and they've turned out great.

I don't think it tastes as good, but that's been my experience with it. I don't like turkey burgers at all. I'm okay with it as an option, but not the ONLY option for something like tacos when you invite people over for dinner. My wife is a vegetarian, but when we have people over, we offer more than tofu....

sloppy joes

turkey burgers

in chili
This is a good application. Once again, a lot of spice and it is wet.

Anyone know how to find out the origination of an email address?A buddy of mine is a HS Baseball coach, and he's been getting some threatening emails. He thanks it's from one of the kids he cut and asked me if I could find out where it came from.ETA, he says it's a gmal address.
If you want to shell out a few bucks, you can try Intelius or US Search.
Thanks. I don't think he wants to shell out any cash, but I'll run it by him. There aren't any free ones out there?

Got convinced to switch from cable to Direct TV this week at Sams. Install is next Saturday, so I've got a week to change my mind if I want to. I hate Time Warner with a passion and my monthly bill is going down, so I'm not sure how I would change my mind, but looking for thoughts.
I did this exact thing 3 weeks ago. Saving $50/mo for the first year, and $20/mo the second. The sales guy and manager didn't really know what they were talking about though, they said they had a wireless router, but they don't so I had to pay $50 for an install of it.

They also told me they had new technology that prevents 95% of signal loss due to storms. FAIL.... We had a loss of signal the second night, and another one last week.

They also talked me out of a second DVR for the bedroom because they said you could record 2 channels and watch a 3rd, unlike Time Warner. Another fail as it's exactly like Time Warner where you can only record 2 channels and have to watch one of those or something that's already been recorded.

Other than that it's ok, takes a bit to get used to.
I'm getting a bit more off than that, 4 free receivers (2 HD with DVR) plus 1 year free of NFL Sunday Ticket.
Yea I got that same package, except I got 1 HD DVR, 1 HD Box, and 2 regular boxes. Got the Sunday Ticket for a year, and all the movie channels for 3 mos. All for $79/mo
Yeah. Mine's $52/mo.

Based on this thread, I decided to go back to DirecTV. $39.99/month with 3 months of free Showtime, HBO and Cinemax, plus NFL Package for one year. Only one HD box, but we are hoping to list our house in the next few weeks so we will add the other box(es) when we land in SC.I signed up for new service under my maiden name because our former service was in my husband's name. :loophole:

So happy to have this again.

I haven't bought a pair of boxers for myself in years. I've bought some compression shorts for running, but boxers? Either my wife, ex-wife or gf past and present* are responsible for 100% of my non-workout related underwear. *just joking!
Understand, I will find a girlfriend ASAP.
I make it 8-5 rickyjgo finds a girlfriend to buy him underwear before I do.
Why would you buy him underwear?
:lmao: :lmao:

I'm in Cleveland!
Need a guided tour?
What's there to see?
Come to Youngstown!
I apologize, but I laughed at you a little last week. Cowherd: "Sure, you could say LeBron deserves some of what he's getting, and that he should have expected it. But that doesn't mean I can't feel a little bad for the guy. I mean, you could say people who choose to live in Youngstown should expect to be unemployed and that they get what they deserve for living there, but I think we should still be a little empathetic to their plight."
Youngstown rules. Cowherd is a turd.

GB of mine is going through a divorce. This has been coming (on his end, at least) for 10 years. They have made it official only just recently and this past Monday she made mention of this guy she has been seeing.

I just spoke to him and he's a wreck because of that aspect. Crying, etc. They have been together for 24 years and the divorce is completely mutual... he is just suffering.

Any thoughts?

So, can anyone jump in here? I've been occasionally taking a read but haven't posted in this thread yet. Don't know if I'll ever share some of the things I'd like to get advice/thoughts on, but wanted to check and see what sort of street cred is needed. Should I post my rosters in my sig or something?
They'll accept just about anyone, just talk about poop or something and you are golden.
I've got a really terrible Hemorrhoid right now, will that do?

Like needing 3 family members to help you screw in a light bulb?
I would have said, "to pound a nail in" but that works too. :D

Logically I keep thinking that the minute I see my STBex with another woman, it will be a relief but I know the reality of it will be harder to swallow. We've been together 21 years, the most of both our lives. I'll try my best to fool myself when it actually happens. Hard to watch the person you've built a life with move on without you even if it is mutual. If/when you figure it out, I'd love to hear it.
