GM's thread about nothing (24 Viewers)

GB of mine is going through a divorce. This has been coming (on his end, at least) for 10 years. They have made it official only just recently and this past Monday she made mention of this guy she has been seeing.I just spoke to him and he's a wreck because of that aspect. Crying, etc. They have been together for 24 years and the divorce is completely mutual... he is just suffering.Any thoughts?
pity sex.
Not an option.
Pitiless sex?
:lmao: You beat me to it.

There is no magic formula or drink or drug or cure for getting over the sudden realization that the person you've spent a signficant part of your life and emotional currency with is now with another. It just takes time and callouses. Good luck.

My sister and BIL went through a long and tedious phase where ground turkey was used for just about everything they made. I pitched a fit once when they served us turkey tacos and said if they were going to do that, to at least warn us so we could bring some real options to the table. Didn't go over very well.
I have no issues using ground turkey thigh meat as a substitute for beef. I've made tacos with it before and they've turned out great.
I don't think it tastes as good, but that's been my experience with it. I don't like turkey burgers at all. I'm okay with it as an option, but not the ONLY option for something like tacos when you invite people over for dinner. My wife is a vegetarian, but when we have people over, we offer more than tofu....
I think the root of the problem is that people who shop for ground turkey pretty much have no idea of how to cook and what tastes good.

Cooked a new fish last night - Swai. Baked it in a nice fajita marinade and made burritos with cuban black beans and plenty of peppers. good eating.
How do I turn my regular can of black beans into cuban black beans?Serious and sarcastic answers appreciated
put them on a raft headed toward Miami
:lmao:Tiger, I have no idea if this is a 'recipe' for Cuban black beans or not, but this is what I do at least once a week and sometimes more. I eat a lot of black beans. Very good for you. However, I might cook the good parts right out of them.In a saucepan, coat the bottom with olive oil and turn the heat to high. When it's good and hot, dump in minced up garlic, onions and red/orange peppers. If the kids aren't eating, I'll add jalapenos or seranos too. Saute the mix for a few minutes, adding a little Tony's and cracked pepper to the process. Turn the heat down to medium high and add one to two cans of DRAINED black beans. Add about 1/4 - 1/3 can/bottle of any beer. More beer for two cans. Stir well.Add a pinch of oregano, garlic powder, paprika and more Tony's and cracked black pepper (how much depends on personal taste).Add at least 1 Table Spoon of Cumin. This is the key ingredient. I sometimes add up to 2 Table Spoons. Seems like a lot, but I think it's great here. I also add 1-2 fresh bay leaves. If the kids aren't eating, I'll add a dash of Cayenne. If the kids are eating, I'll use a dash of chili powder instead.Bring everything to a boil, stir well, turn the heat down to low, cover and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, stirring often. You can leave the lid off if you want, but I like trapping all the goodness in there and really letting it simmer. Not sure if that's Cuban Black Beans or not, but it's how I make them and they are a family/friend favorite. People ask me to bring them to parties and they go great with any burritos.
this too sounds great...will be trying next time we do fajitas

As long as we're sharing recipes, here's a fantastic dry rub, especially for chicken wings, that I made up

2 tsp sea salt

2 tsp black pepper

2 tsp cumin

2 tsp ground mustard

2 tsp sage

2 tsp onion powder

2 tsp garlic powder

4 tsp chili powder

1 tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp Lawry's season salt

It makes a ton, probably enough for 24 wings or so, and its very excellent.

AngryWife and her parents are so predictable. After spending four days eating local fare and being a little creative in their dining options, they couldn't stand it any more, so we had our big vacation wrap-up dinner at Outback Steakhouse tonight.

I'll never understand this. Outback should only be used in case of emergency.

Used to be my favorite restaurant. In the late 90s when I traveled a lot my first question was always "Where's the nearest Outback?"

I've never understood hate for Outback. Olive Garden, Chili's, Applebee's? Yes, I hate them too, but I think Outback puts out a pretty solid product at an affordable price.

A friend of mine is throwing herself a 40th-birthday party this Saturday in Chicago--an absolutely huge fiesta with people flying in from all over. I was supposed to go but won't be able to make it and would like to send something to the party as a surprise. Ideas? notastripperoramarchingband

I'm pretty ambivalent about it. Don't mind going occasionally at home, but did we really need to do it while we're visiting Charleston?

Oh no, I totally get that. It's like the one time I was in Queens for work and we had the choice of a local BBQ joint or a Chili's and we ended up going to Chili's because I was outvoted 5-1. There is nothing I hate more than going to chains when I'm somewhere I'm not normally am.

That cockring thing that Truck is always talking about.

Well, that would be a surprise.
And a gift card to Outback.

Red Hat Society? An "old lady" shot? Bueller?
Hadn't heard of this.I'm a little disheartened that cockring and Outback gift card is the leader in the clubhouse. :(

Since we're talking food. I bought some ground turkey because it was on sale and was made to feel like I was being a good dad by buying a more healthy protein. Does anyone have any recipe at all that makes this stuff vaguely palatable?
My step sister and brother in law had to live with me for a bit during her pregnancy. They make taco salad out of it. Considering the chips and cheese involved, I'm not sure it helps it remain healthy, but there's lowfat cheese and you can use 0% fat greek yogurt instead of sour cream. You really can't tell it's not hamburger meat in the taco salad. Well, I guess you can, but I actually like it more as in: I never made taco salad before, but I do now on a semi-regular basis.

The key with ground turkey is to keep it as moist and flavorful as possible, as it dries out so quickly. With a burger patty you can put some chopped oniOns/peppers in the chopped meat to keep it moist.

Outback for take-out at home? Damn fine.Outback on the road for business. Same.Random family event like a birthday. Not great, but whatever.Outback on vacation at the beach. WTF? Really? I'd pitch a fit, veto and abstain if necessary. I remember being at the beach for a check-out dive during a scuba certification one Spring. The instructor dorks were getting everyone ready for dinner and a trip to Outback, but I refused. Fresh seafood everywhere, but they want to go to a place you can find every 10-20 miles along interstates in decently populate areas? Meh.GM, you know me. I'm no shuke, but I'm a great fan of red meat. Tacos/taco salad with ground turkey instead of beef are fine and now that I've had them for a while, I'm starting to like them better that way. I know I was late to the party with my response, but the post which stated anything which requires lots of seasoning to ground beef anyway being substituted for ground turkey probably holds true. Use olive oil to increase the grease factor and you're still better off than using ground beef without sacrificing much, if anything at all.Considering I usually have plenty of deer burger in the freezer, I can probably count the times I've bought ground beef that wasn't fed to my dog (he's on a raw food diet) on one hand the past year or more.

If, for some reason, you aren't sold on the cockring. Personally, I think a cockring and a 40 of Old Style sounds about right.

Maybe something from Memphis she can't get in Chicago. 40 ribs from Rendezvous. Or 40 drug-addicted Elvises.

:lmao: Jesus. :lmao:That reminds me, I took a picture in the Amsterdam airport in honor of Gadzooks, which I'll post if someone can remind me how to get a damn picture on here from my iPhone.

This. Some of us don't make FBG money and a $40 night out is just what the doctor ordered. That includes OG, Chilis, Applebees etc.

About twice a year, usually when my wife is out of town, I saunter up to the bar of the local Outback and order a Fosters and their steak special. It's never been excellent and it's never been bad. I don't drink Fosters any other time. I enjoy the experience every time. My wife is a vegetarian (fish eating/cheese too) so we don't do a lot of steakhouses and i don't want to pay way up for one on my own. Outback works here and there. I hit the nice places on business.

Or Pear Brandy

I had my third after hours client meeting in a row tonight. May have had a bad attitude walking in after driving through rush hour traffic to meet with them. Essentially told them to have sex with themselves when they implied I screwed up after getting them a 2 million dollar judgment that got reversed on appeal (where they hired someone else).

Possibility of getting fired. Got pretty drunk after and have to answer to managing partner in the morning.

I like the c-ring and a purple hat...look up the "when I am old and start to wear purple" poem. Gadzooks :lmao: had some good ideas too.

How bout a Guys Gone Wild video? And the bottle of Old Style...I like it. Bunch of 80s reminders? Neon earrings, Michael Jackson cassette, 16 Candles video?

I don't understand the hate for outback, chilis, applebees, et al. I'm sure most everyone has been to one at least once. You know what you're going to get at these places, you either like it or you don't. Personally, I don't enjoy applebees. Been there 2-3 times in my life, and all things being equal will not return. But, I do happen to like Chilis and will go there from time to time. Even if you're on vacation, I don't see any issue going to a chain restaurant one night. When I'm on vacation, I go to the local spots too and they're usually hit or miss  fwiw, outback's menu is full of very unhealthy choices, so beware.

I happen to enjoy ground turkey meat. Now, granted, I don't eat red meat or pork, but I don't miss the flavor one bit. I enjoy turkey burgers, I wish more restaurants would offer them as lunch choices. I make chili with ground turkey and I think it's great. I use it when making pasta to make turkey balls and they taste better than with ground meat, imho.

Man, I wish I had friends throw me surprise gifts for my 40th. :kicksrock: of course, I don't think enough of myself to throw myself a lavish party either, I think Peter Brady covered that one a few decades ago and ruined it for the boys.

Getting absolutely loaded all weekend starting tomorrow afternoon. 3 days of camping, disc golf, great beer and lots-o-weed.

Sex is the answer. It's been scientifically proven that is lessens the blow. Other than that, he needs to learn how to hate. We've all been in a relationship where it's meh and who cares. He needs to remember why he doesn't want to be with her anymore. Being with somebody for 24 years will #### with you. You'll remember the good times and think she's not so bad. This seemed funnier/brutally honest last night after a few libations. I'm going to give myself a TO.

yeah, i know just some random thoughts. best thing about local restaurants is you can cuss out your server on the receipt and not worry about nationwide repercussions/blacklist. Our illustrious thread starter figured this out ages ago and has shown us the way.
