My little sister is lives on Kauai. She has been there for, I don't know, 10 years? and is quite literally a bum. No residence or job whatsoever. She called my parents this morning asking for some money and they can't wire her any because she doesn't have any ID. Did I mention today is my Mom's B-day? I love when all this #### happens at the same time. My Dad is trying to figure something out. If you were there, I could Paypal you some money with a commission for your T&T. I'm going to go cut the grass last for the last time now and start drinking heavily.My buddy has the house until tomorrow then the poor sap has to go home... to Maui. I am real curious about that second sentence though.

Have a brother that used to pull #### like this. Sold his possessions and moved to Florida (with two kids) to try his luck on mini-tour golf. Six months later he was broke - turns out a lot of guys in this country are plus two handicap or better - and his wife was banging a banker. Back and forth between FL and MI the whole time I was in the Navy.
Then he moves out to Denver so he can be a ski bum. Develops a gambling problem. Found out my mom was enabling him. After I got done chewing her out, making her promise to sending him money, I called him up and told him the spigot just got turned off. I know he won't call dad.
Six weeks later he calls up because he's living out of his truck, lost his apartment. Giving me a litany of excuses to try and justify getting a loan from me. Told him I would rent him a U-Haul to come home and get his #### together. Keep in mind, he's my older brother, and he was 39 at the time. Nice, huh? He agrees.
FF fifteen years. He's kept it together for the longest stretch of his life. Long haul trucking, rough way to earn a living, but he's paying his own way. Bought the tiniest house you've ever seen, maybe 700-800 sq ft one bedroom, sitting on five acres, attached garage. Adopted a 8 year old boy with his second wife a few years ago. Dumb ### might actually retire without being a burden to his extended family.
TL;DR SUMMARY
Family can be a PITA, but what can you do? Can't turn your back on them. Help out as much as practical, and hope for the best. GL SLB.

I love old houses; we're in a 1878 Victorian cottage this summer. No heat, hot water heater sits on blocks outside the kitchen. Wrap around front porch, and a widows walk (harbor view) up top off the bedroom. Small backyard with a BBQ and fire pit. Modest and cute. This is just what I want in 15 years or so.
