I have one sibling - a little sister. She's driving 100 MPH towards a brick wall. When she started this journey, she was going 45MPH and the wall was 100 miles away. Now it's in sight and if she doesn't tap the brakes now, the aftermath is going to be ghastly.
Today, tomorrow or the next day, there will be a "Come To Jesus" meeting with her, absent her husband. It's not going to be a pleasant experience for any of us, but I think it's time to act. We're at prognosis negative here. Not for her health or anything like that. But she's making horrible, awful, stupid, ludicrous, asanine, destructive decisions that are negatively impacting not only her life, but the life of her kids and today - my kids.
The wall is going to destroy her soon. She's completely out of control. This is going to be ugly. An intervention seems to come with a guidance counselor; we don't have that. But we might need one. Anybody go through this? PMs appreciated for anyone with experience. I'm down to that....I don't know what else to do.

Ouch. Sorry, I have no experience with this, so all I can say is good luck. If her behavior is impacting her kids and now your kids, then you are definitely doing the right thing by stepping in and taking some kind of action. Best of luck to you.

Wearing a tie to work today for a special Toastmasters meeting at lunch. Now generally my Monday-Thursday wardrobe is exactly what I am wearing, just minus the tie. Yet, the reaction from the office is over the top. How did a stupid piece of fabric tied around your neck become the symbol of high fashion? When you think about it, it just doesn't make sense.
some random stuff from my uneventful world
-this past weekend someone rang our front doorbell about 7:30 or so. only people that ring the front doorbell are solicitors or people we don't know (friends/family use the side door) so I go ahead and check it out. It's my neighbor from down the street. I've known this woman about 10 yeas now, and while she is friendly enough, I have never once seen her sober. So, when I opened the door, it was no surprise that she reeks of booze/cigarettes, is wearing a robe and slippers. What was surprising is that she was holding what looked to be a brick wrapped in aluminum foil. It appears that she made a lemon cake which her and her husband couldn't finish, so she wanted to bring the rest down to us so it would not go to waste. I graciously accepted it. No one in my family was brave enough to try it though so it went to waste :(
-visiting my hometown next month, and called a few friends to make some plans to get together. I don't have one of my friends numbers or email, so I sent him a message on facebook. He didn't reply for about 2 1/2 weeks, so while initially hurt, angered, pissed, I brushed it off as oh well, one less friend in the world. last night he replied saying he was sorry for the delay getting back to me, as I must have heard and seen from his fb posts, his father was going through some huge medical issues, culminating in a quadrouple bypass, and he would love to get together when I arrive. Well, I didn't see the issues because I have his posts blocked from showing up on my wall
he's one of those foursquare, posts every stupid huffington post news story guys....needless to say I haven't replied to his message to say we'll get together.

Drugs would probably consititue a health risk. Mary Jane usage is the only one I can think of where a health risk would not be a big concern, and I doubt GM is going to get up on a soapbox if that was it.GLGB

Most Toastmasters people are uninteresting turds, and they feel the need to tell you over and over about themselves so you know for sure how uninteresting they are. I can't stand most other Toastmaster people. Overall it feels like a cult made of people who "broke out of their wallflower shell" and now can't shut up. The good thing about our group, is it is strictly an internal group to the company and so we do things the way we want, super laid back, without the over the top dooshery of a normal TM group.Plus, the hottest women in our company are all in the group, and I'm one of only two guys in the group. Slap it high?
