Do you ever sometimes think that perhaps you're really dumber than you are, but you're just not sure and then you realize you really are? I had that happen tonight. I am really REALLY dumb when it comes to technology involving phones and computers. Last week I got my first I-phone I can barely do anything with it. My new 22 year old secret "friend" was shocked at how challenged I was and explained alot of the nuances to me. Today she had been texting me and said how she wished she wasn't going away this weekend with her parents because she'd rather be "doing things" with/to me. So she's been texting me while I've been at work and she mentioned how it was too bad that I don't get good cell service at my house because we could've "talked all night tonight". Unless she meant phone sex, I'm glad that we won't be talking all night, but that's another story. So I politely responded with something charming stupid about building a cell tower in my backyard. We then exchanged the following texts and it makes me feel bad for any time I've made fun of my parents for not knowing anything about their computer or cell phone.

22 year old: What if we used somthing that just needs wifi? Like Skype or a messenger app?

Me: You saw what an idiot I was with my cell phone, do you really think I know anything about Skype or messenger apps?

22 year old: I'll help you through it. Go to the app store and search for Kik Messenger and install it. It's free.

(I'm reading this completely shuked and wondering if I have to go to the Mall to find this app store)

22 year old: Do you have wireless internet at home? Is your phone connected to it?

Me: Pretty sure my internet has wires. My phone is not connected to it, but I do use the cable company for my home phone service and internet service. I don't know if that's relevant or not. Me being an idiot is probably relevant.

22 year old: You need wireless to connect your phone to wifi. Unless your neighbors have unsecured wireless internet.

Me: I don't really like my neighbors. Is that going to be an issue with this wifi thingy you're talking about?

22 year old: LoL. Relax grampa, why don't you take a break, I'll help you with all this fancy new technology another day.

I feel really stupid, but at the same time, I find myself not caring that I'm stupid. Is this wrong? How do the rest of you idiots feel about your stupidity?

Anyone in here have luck with a long distance marriage?I have the opportunity to apply to a job 3 hours away - the first job opportunity about which I've been excited in 2+ years. I ran it past Mr. YSR tonight, and he's excited that I'm excited, but understandably upset.Can this type of thing work? It's an easy 3 hour drive, and our work schedules would allow weekend visitations every weekend. Anyone have any experience?

Two updates:1.) Found out that the hiring manager/director of the department is a former high school classmate of mine. We played sports together and I'm pretty sure she has a good memory of me.2.) My older sister has also applied for this job. Just found this out today. She's pretty miserable in her current job, as it provides NO gratification whatsoever.So, at this point, I'm considering backing off from applying, given that I have an "in" with the hiring manager, I would be 3 hours from my husband, and getting this job may be something that my sister really needs.<-- Perplexed

Backing out for your husband is one thing. That's a really tough decision.Backing out for your sister is a little weirder. If for some reason it was down to you two for the job, I could definitely see that. There's got to be a ton of people applying for a job like that. What makes you think they'll hire her if you back out? Are you more qualified than her? If so, there's bound to be someone else in the running more qualified, and it's going to suck doubly when neither of you get it.

I'm more qualified for the position, but she's miserable in her job. At this point in time, it would be ideal if I had a job (I do not currently, so, financially speaking) but it's not a must-have. The job is with our high school, which is a private school (not look-at-me, just to say that hiring is direct and not through school district). I called her earlier to talk about it and I think we are both okay with the sister aspect. I just need to clear up the husband aspect and all will be well. I just have a weird gut thing making it hard for me to apply for a job like this (i.e. away from him4-5 days/week).

Hmmm, kinda bull####-y to me. If you back out it doesn't mean your sister would get the job, so it doesn't make any sense to me. You back out and someone else gets it, so how does that help anyone? And why anyway wouldn't it be best for the best person for the job to win? Could be you, could be her, could be someone else. And more importantly, is she the crazy Christian you-are-inappropriate-during-football-games person? If so, then try to get the job to crush every last fiber of her being anyway.**Might not be the answer for everyone.

I had a sous chef in Dallas that would use a crazy amount of it in his gumbo, I do not like it that way all the time, but it has a distinct, pronounced taste that will really wow. We can get fresh here pretty easily, and if you that's best, but dried works too. For a two gallon pot, I would probably use a thumb-sized bundle of fresh, or 3-4 T of dried.If you use the dried, its best to strain the stock afterwards, as it has all those little woody bits that are irritating.Try it out sometime and tell me what u think.

Yeah that sounds good. I was thinking that people should ship by 12/18, not necessarily arrive by 12/18. Sorry about that, I should have been clearer. Either way, this isn't a perfect science so do your best.If you sent me a PM you should have gotten one back with your person and their address. Let me know if you didn't receive one. We had 22 people in and I tried to keep track of everyone but I may have missed someone.

Yeah, I read that, but haven't set foot in a shipping/post office in 15 years, hence the question. I live in the boons, so they close and lock up early. I'll just ship through work. It'll probably cost more, but since I'm not paying that should still be allowed right? Maybe I can bump the gift cost slightly that way (getting porn imported from New Guinea isn't cheap with the current Exchange rate.)

Most post offices now leave their lobbies open 24 hours and most of those lobbies have a self service machine that weighs and prints shipping labels for you packages. The machines take credit cards and maybe (?) cash.The later you go the less likely you will have to wait.
