GM's thread about nothing (34 Viewers)

Last night, the Trailblazers handed out post cards and pens to all fans who entered the arena. On one side was a dedication of thanks to our Military Servicemen and Women and on the back it was blank, save for an address to some sort of Military headquarters in Maryland. We were encouraged to write a note of thanks to our soldiers, which I thought was a marvelous idea and was really happy to see so many heads down at the stadium, writing notes and dropping them off for delivery. I took some time with mine and tought about what I wanted to say and began to scribble in my horrendous chicken scratch. I started off by thanking them for their service and said I was at the Blazers game and it was because of the hard work and dedication of partriots like them that a man like me can enjoy freedom and blah blah blah. At the end, I included my email address and said if anybody who reads this is a Blazers fan and will write back to me, I have a pair of tickets to give away to a game later this season. 90% of me thinks this post card will get lost in the suffle and nobody will ever send me an email. But 10% of me really hopes one of our troops reads this, contacts me and gets to enjoy a game in Portland. I wonder if anything will ever come of this. I sure hope so.
What happens when you get more e-mails than there are home games?
I forward them to Hock Meng Tay.

Or just some amateur photographer with a really bad imagination.
The gal behind the bullet proof glass ended up running after me as I got into my car to leave. I sort of noticed the name of their current supplier plastered all over the place and sort of mentioned I was in the same business. :coffee:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States' first new nuclear power plant in a generation won approval Thursday as federal regulators voted to grant a license for two new reactors in Georgia.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission voted 4-1 to approve Atlanta-based Southern Co.'s request to build two nuclear reactors at its Vogtle site south of Augusta.

The vote clears the way for officials to issue an operating license for the reactors, which could begin operating as soon as 2016 and 2017.

The NRC last approved construction of a nuclear plant in 1978, a year before a partial meltdown of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania.

The commission approved a new reactor design for the Vogtle plant in December.

I actually have 3 pairs of tickets to give away if it comes to that. In fact, my fantasy last night was to have multiple emails from the military requesting tickets and me staging some sort of contest where they tell me what makes them such a Blazers fan and the GMTAN helps me decide who gets the tickets. I was envisioning me and some Marines kicking it at the Elks Lodge, sucking down HAMMS and toasting to the flag. Much like Jerry Seinfeld in the episode with Babu Bat, I was back-patting myself and thinking that perhaps the military would name some sort of medal for me.

Hey, somebody removed my Shuke quote from my sig. Shoot, I liked that one. Oh well. Maybe Shuke will say something funny again one day. :kicksrock:
What quote?
Kind of scared to repeat it here, but it was something to the effect of "I'm not making crockpot chicken to pictures from the future".
You should just change it to that.
Nah, I'm holding out hope that you'll type out something funnier in the future.

How is Singapore, GB? Sorry you got deported. Do they have Excel over there?

I was just thinking about something...I've never seen more than 2 minutes of any of the Bourne movies. Am I missing out?
2 minutes more than me
:hifive:And now that there are like 8 of them, there's no chance I'll ever watch one. Same thing with the Batman movies. How many do we freaking need to make? Enough already.
I actually have a brick and mortar friend who did some post-production work on one of the Bourne movies. I feel bad because I think I told him "oh yeah...it was great".

You guys hear that HBO acquired the rights to the A Song of Ice and Fire series?
I've seen this thread for years and I have no clue what it means. Guess I could open it. Or somebody could tell me what it means.
Series of fantasy/D&D type books. The first book in the series "Game of Thrones" was turned into a series on HBO. I actually watched the first season and, despite not digging fantasy stuff at all, I actually enjoyed it. A lot more backstabbing/political intrigue than hocus-pocus. In fact they really don't get into any Merlin type crap until the last episode of the season. Oh, and there are usually some boobies every episode.

Playing a game of words with friends with a girl I met last weekend. I've beaten her 3 games in a row and she made a wager for dinner to whoever loses this match. Assuming I win, do I still make her pay?? I'd go on the date just for fun as I'm not sure I'm all that into her...she's prob a 7. I do get the feeling I could :pickle:
Update?? Did you win?

I'm surprised nobody hit this one out of the park....Bucky86 - You should have replied like this: "How about insted of going out for dinner, we save a little money and you can cook for me. Your place or mine, matters not. I'll supply the wine/drinks, you provide the meal. And if by some chance you beat me, I'll take you out anywhere you want to go. Deal?"

I would have played it more like this.

If you get multiple emails for ticket requests you cannot fill, call the Blazers' ticket office and tell them the situation and how you expected this to be received by only one person. I wouldn't do it as a complaint at first, but then fall back to the point about you filling out a single postcard if you ended up thinking you wanted to turn it into a complaint. Now the other, and possibly unrelated idea, is to take it to a local radio station and see if there's another fan out there who would fill the other ticket requests.I bet either suggestion would work....or you could just break-out that fat wallet and buy the other sets.

I'm trying to do this right now. Steak is currently in the oven at 200.

I've never seared a frozen steak before today
Verdict: Awesome
Sounds awesome. Did you cover it in foil before or after the oven part? They seemed to gloss over that. Also, about how long did you have to sear it?
I didn't do anything with foil, and I seared it for somewhere between 90 seconds and two minutes - it could have been a little longer though, but I've got an induction stovetop that I don't think gets as hot as gas.

Whoa... worlds are colliding: just discovered that one of Thorn's FB friends is also "FB Friends" with one of my "FB Friends". YIKES!!!!!

I was talking to my old man on the way home from work tonight and he'd been down at my uncle's house drinking beer for an hour or two already so he was pretty well into it. Suddenly, I hear a grunt and the phone cuts off. When he calls back three minutes later, he announces that he'd pissed himself and apologized for hanging up.

I think I come by it honestly.

On this week's edition of, "Fartbarf Thursdays", I bring to you a little ditty from the blue collar, rough-and-tumble port town, called San Pedro. (pronounced PEE-dro)

Fartbarf: Before They Were Stars.

Fartbarf kicks it up a notch around the 3:25 mark, for those of you with less patience.

Did anyone else think you were going to start a miltary only forrest mail?Props GM. My brother has been overseas for 3 tours, and he always mentions how happy all of his guys are to read any sort of handwritten notes, even from strangers. There are a lot of enlisted guys who really don't have a lot going for them back home...so it really does mean a lot. If anyone reading this gets a chance to do anything even remotely similar...please do so.

ETA: #### it...this country is headed to hell in a handbasket
