GM's thread about nothing (57 Viewers)

Not only had to put Tripod down this morning but had the pleasure of a dentist's appointment this afternoon--yay! But it turns out that the dentist has now added, as a supplement to the massage chairs, flat-screen TVs, and Pandora radio choices, a parrafin hand treatment while your teeth are being cleaned. I might start hanging out at my dentist's just to relax.

Amazing. FBG Dentist, on the other hand, offers a variety of "Dump on Your Chest" options during your visit.

To order the "Kansas City Steamer," his variety of a "tried and true classic," press 1 on the remote.

You doing okay, Krista? How's Tripod's girlfriend?
Thanks for asking, GBYSR. I think we're doing better than I expected. It's a hard decision and the time with the vet allowed us to realize it was correct. My issue is that I actually think we might have waited longer than we should have. But we're OK, just miss the little guy and feel like I see him all over the house until I realize he's not here. His girlfriend spent much of the day absolutely glued to me, which is weird for her. She's being very loving and sweet, also unusual. She's usually kind of a #####. So she's definitely feeling it. :(

Hopefully this doesn't end up leading to future condolences in a thread that has been chock full of them (and let me add my own to Stu, Krista, Fish, Limp, and anyone I'm forgetting) but this is the town I grew up in, lived in until I was 23, and my parents have lived in since 1972. I feel like St. L Bob and I should form a support group.
Wait. How old are you?I went to Hayes Elementary.
Lived in Fridley, but was part of the Spring Lake Park School District, class of '95.

That's good. You probably don't have cancer then.

So my daughter called my last night crying because her Sorority put her on Finanical Probation which means she can't participate in any of the formal events or anything that sh'e been working on until her bill is paid. After doing some checking, it seems I overlooked the $6k for room and board for this year. She's living in the Sorority house and I completely missed the fees that should have been added onto her student loan to cover this. Can I amend the loan to include this? If so, how fast can they get the fund to her?Man, I feel horrible, cannot believe I missed this.
I would call the student loan office ASAP, as I imagine this sort of stuff happens all the time. Also, I would email the treasurer of the sorority and the treasurer of the sorority board (likely an alumn) and explain the situation. No matter what your daughter may know, these are the types of things that they deal with all the time; so hopefully some sort of plan will be worked out and then you'll be back on good graces with your daughter.
Thanks TF, this was a good place to start. We are moving along on this and hopefully they will grant an extension.

He needs to be careful or they will put her on Double Secret Financial Probation.

T&P, Pickles. I'll let you win the next few Words matches just in case you got the Big C.

Condolences to everyone whose going through tough times and to Pack for having a college age daughter.

Things are good at the bentley house. Angrywife is at some kind of mommy pyramid scheme party (Arbonne?), Youk is asleep and I'm drinking beer in the porch swing listening to the sounds of Buzz Lightyear from the monitor in JR's room.

there's been so much hardship in this thread recently!

in order to try to turn the karma around, i'm willing to put myself at the mercy of this thread.

i've got a couple things coming up that the FFA could help shape...

a. my 'friend with benefits' will apparently allow me to take pictures of her doing absolutely anything, as long as her face isn't in them. i'm not sure when i'll see her again, but i'll take suggestions. if you want to see any of her previous work and haven't yet, send me a PM and a way to send them to you (email or text) and i'll send along.

ii) i'm going on a date tomorrow night with a girl that i kind of think i might like. i'm pretty sure this is the first girl i've been out with since i've been single again where there is 0 chance of teh sechs on date #1. i'll take shtick suggestions on this, but might be a little more choiceful than with #a) above

gamma] i'm coaching my first (and second) game ever this weekend. my daughter's kingergarten & 1st grade soccer team. we've had 2 practices... only 4 girls showed up to the second one. they are terrible. beyond horrible. there is one girl that is legit good and one that is pretty good. one girl that picks flowers, one girl that is afraid of everything and the other ones suck. any shtick suggestions? I'm the assistant coach, but the head coach has less of an idea of what he's doing than i do and he always seems to ask me for advice. he's a good dude, but i bet i could pull off plenty of things without him caring. all options are open within reason - my outfit, formations on the field, things i shout, etc.

GMTAN, i am your muse...

That took way too long.

I'm going to my first real academic conference this weekend. I know that sounds weird, but I've avoided these things for years. Now I'm going all in on academic serious bizness.

So what should wear? Jeans, black t-shirt, slugo hat, ipod, and aviators?

Having gone to a billion of these, wear anything you want. The fashion and hygienic sense goes down exponentially with academic stature.

These people are too serious for even this. I would love to show up in a shirt and tweed jacket, only with a ball gag on. Never say a word. If I'm forced to speak (i.e. security comes) only write notes to them. Say it's a psychological experiment or something.

but where in the world would you find a ball gag on such short notice...

Thanks. But it's been my experience that scientists are less uptight group than English dorks. You may get the rare renegade (hi!) but in general the English people are a bookish lot in desperate need of beer, shots, and a good lay. This may be why I've avoided these things for years...and why most of my friends are lawyers and poets, not profs. I hope I'm wrong. I'll be sure to report when I get back.

You're right. I should use the twitter account for live updates.

Sounds like the same group to me.
