Is Minnesota really cool in July? We have about a week off in the middle of July and want to take a bit of a break from the Texas heat. Wife suggested Minnesota, saying she went on a family trip to the Miss. River headwaters and it was cool in the evenings. Since several of you here are from Mn, I thought I'd get a reality check.

I'd like a lake or river cabin where I could chill for a week. I would need internet access so I could watch baseball. Scenic crap and good fishing would be expected. I would prefer need somewhere not overrun with other people, esp. kids.

Edit to add- would it be better to just keep driving north another day into Canada?

It can get pretty hot in July, but then again I'm talking Minnesota hot not Texas hot. Expect 80 during the day and probably 65 or so in the evenings.

1. Police escorts are pretty impressive. The way they weave in and out, work the traffic, it's an art form. The salute at the end is pretty awesome.

2. The family car fits seven. You will piss off the 8th, 9th and 10th place finishers in the "Who Rides In The Family Car Olympics". They will get over it.

3. Drama queens who dominate funerals, regardless of relationship annoy me to no end. I almost punched one today.

4. For those planning on having a funeral someday, paying for it and having plots picked out is not enough. Have your music picked out! Those three songs are the toughest choices your family is going to make if you don't help them.

5. When you pick your songs, make sure they sound good with a soloist and organ player I would not recommend guitar solos.

6. My song will have a guitar solo, with instructions for the soloist to sing it.

7. Be prepared to hear a sermon, even if you ask for there not to be one.

As long as folks are in a thopra kind of mood... one of my best friends from HS is married to Olympic gold medalist Mark Lenzi. Mark had had some health issues lately, and apparently was admitted to the hospital after suffering fainting spells. He is now in ICU, and not expected to pull through. If you want really good fishing and more isolation, yes. Internet access may be the rub. That said, the North Shore has nice scenery, good weather, and maybe good enough fishing.

At one point, I asked my youngest son to look through the drawers and find the generic hotel book binder with a list of all the amendities, local restaurants, pool hours, etc. Right in front of my uber Catholic MIL, he pulls out Gideons Bible. He picks it up, looks at it and says "The Holy....Bibble? (rhymes with quibble). What the heck is a bibble?". MIL knows we aren't religious, but my god Cooper...could you have possibly fudged that up any more?

The worst offensive team in baseball is lighting this guy up like a pinball machine. With 1 out in the 3rd inning, he's thrown 67 pitches, walked 3, surrendered 7 hits and given up 5 runs. Oh, and pitch 67 hit a guy.ETA: That said, he does have great stuff. His fastball is in the mid-90s with decent movement, and his offspeed stuff is pretty good. He just has no control. The guy is having an epic meltdown on the mound.

I've been to two military funerals. Cried like woz after a breakup during taps at both. Sunglasses are key.

My dad had a military funeral and he left instructions that Taps not be played. He thought it was the loneliest song in the world. He never said exactly why, but I found out after he passed that his tank was hit in WWII during the battles in the Ardennes and he was the sole survivor. That explained why. My condolences Bogart.

Oh yeah, just been a long long week with a lot of activity and all of sudden, it's ground to a halt and I'm not sure what to do with this....free time. I'm bored, but also kind of tired. My FIL and I drank a heck ton of beer this past week, so I'm going to avoid beer for the next few days. Wife is already asleep. Pregnancy + week with her parents has sapped her energy. Kids with ex-wife. Guess I could finish reading Tuesdays with Morries or watch some TLC. Also, I had to liberally apply sun block all over my face and neck this weekend which is all well and good because I avoided sunburn at the beach, but now I have these gigantic red zit welts on my neck and hairline. Neat.

I really hope so. He's hit the ball well at every stop in the minors, tore up AAA last year, and is off to a damn hot start this year. The issue is that Figgins is still owed a good bit of cash for this year, and if he keeps not sucking the Mariners might be able to dump him. The good news for Seager is that he can play 2nd, 3rd, and fill in at SS in a pinch. Saunders is the likely casualty when Guti comes back, and I've got no idea what's going to happen when Carp comes back. The Mariners seem to have an abundance of mediocre hitters, which is a HUGE upgrade from last year. In short, I've got no idea, but I've been starting him all year as a MI and have been very happy.

We outlasted the film and then looped it around again so we could continue
