GM's thread about nothing (30 Viewers)

We're signing my daughter (age 4 in two days) up for a summer science camp (one week long, 3 hours per day) because she needs things to do and I love science and love the idea of her learning science. The problem is it is being held at a church, which already makes me nervous (we don't go to church at all, although she goes whenever she stays over at my parents house, maybe once every couple of months - she also has a "baby jesus" nativity set that she likes to play with - none of these things bother me). Looking at the class listing, as well as all the other "camps" they offer, they list a bible basis for each one and for the science one it is, "I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me." I'm not sure how I feel about this. I guess if they just mention god once or twice that's fine, but I really don't want them beating that mantra into her head every time they do an experiment. Like, "Hey Abby, do you know why baking soda and vinegar create that volcano? Not because of an acid/base reaction, but because God said so" or something. I know I'm probably worrying over nothing, but if she comes home from science class talking about a 6,000 year old earth and intelligent design I'm going to be unhappy.
Well, that one's ruined. Time to start working on a new kid.
Two is already one too many.

Well, then you're set. Just let her run off with the church cult. More free time for you.

Ok FB guys, what say you?

Was just offered this trade. 6x6

Pack trades Brett Lawrie,

PAPI trades Hanley Ramirez,

PAPI trades Mark Reynolds,

I am still loving Lawrie this year, but is Ramirez a better option, or is it a wash?

My SS now are Elvus and Peralta.

Thoughts?
I would take Hanley for Lawrie straight up in a redraft. Are there salaries or anything involved?
No salaries, no keepers.

Seems like a no-brainer to me. Just wait to play Reynolds when he's hot.

I've used some accompaniments, but I think it's largely gone unnoticed. I thought Whitney Houston on the day she passed was a nice touch

Pulled the trigger. Now I have to figure out what to do with my other SS's, Andrus and Peralta.Might try to package one of them with an OF for some pitching.

Had an appointment with Dr. Jellyfinger today.

It wasn't a problem, but due to my advanced age, he also gave me the card of a colorectal specialist, who will film the new PBS special "Inside Kevzilla". He also wants me to go on low-dose aspirin. I asked him if there was anything else he wanted to do to make me feel old.

Later I'm waiting (and waiting) to draw my blood and provide a urine sample. It's 11 AM, and I am not only fasting, I'm holding Lake Mead in my bladder. The tech asks me which I want to do first. I ask her if she ever has patients who urgently need to bleed.

A kid I had as a student last year beat his father to death with a baseball bat this morning and put his mother and brother in the hospital, both critical. My mom was taken to the hospital with congestive heart failure. A violent case of the Monday's going on here today. At least the Pens are down 0-3.

Jesus. Sorry, man.

I'm still trying to figure out the sound mechanism on my laptop. It's only been a few weeks. So far, just a bunch of silent videos.

So I'm thinking of making a 'Silent Movie' of this......shot taking. Maybe do it to the sound of Yakity Sax or The Entertainer....

GM should really turn to the Patriot's Day game between the Red Sox and Rays. A bunch of really pale folks in the stands are getting really sunburnt.
Guys, can we throttle back on the "GM = Pale/Sunburn" talk a little? Your words are a little hurtful and I'm not THAT vulnerable to the sun's rays....

Oh wait, you are a Big Fat Party Guy. Carry on.

Damn. I hope Mom is ok. And hey at least the Pirates are doing...well....oh they're in last place again. Go Steelers!

Addendum: one thing I always admired about Pitt is that city's rabid spirit. Even the subversives bleed black and gold. Check this pic out. I took it last time I was down there. Inside the O it says Go Steelers! or something like that.

I would have been more impressed if the "O" was from a protester's Occupy sign.

Do kids still like to go camping? I'm taking my brother and nephews (ages 10, 13 and 15) this weekend to camp and canoe. From talking to my bro, the kids don't seem near as excited as I would have as a kid.

SofaKings is a Michigan man. I can't imagine he cares much about the Pirates or Steelers.

So sorry GB. :(

So, towards the end of soccer practice yesterday while the team was scrimmaging, one of the girls kept saying "my dad is gonna kill me" over and over again. Obviously that is a bit concerning to hear, so I asked her why to try to understand.

One of the other girls on the team kept bothering her and trying to talk to her while we were explaining drills and she came and complained to me and the other coach to the point where he had to pull them aside and talk to them about being good teammates and paying attention, etc. I assumed that maybe she was upset about being talked to or something like that.

Nope... she had peed her pants. After practice was over, she came up to me and said "my dad is going to kill me" again and then finally told me about what had happened. Then she went on to tell me how she still has to wear pull-ups at night and how she has some device that goes on her pull-up/panties that is linked to a necklace thing that she wears and when she starts to pee, the necklace vibrates and lights up and makes noise to wake her up so she can go to the bathroom. She told me lots of other details too. Poor kid. I felt so bad for her - she's such a sweetheart and has been one of my favorites on the team since day 1. It's nice that she felt comfortable enough to come to me and tell me...I almost went all Billy Madison for her and peed myself.

not really, It would have been way more impressive if the 'O' had a reference to The 'O' (Original Hot Dog Shop in Oakland(on Pitt's campus)...That woulda been the true Yinzer move.

Do you drive back to Chicago?
Yes. The last time we visited Chicago was August of last year, and we drove.ETA: Next time I'd like to take the train. We don't have anywhere to go domestically. My family is in Louisville, which is a drive rather than a fly, and I only do that once a year anyway. We've never visited Mr. krista's family.

Luckily you probably had 3-4 changes of clothes on hand for her.
