Bummed that I missed out on blackjack chat. Allow me to add one thing.

With the sole exception of the odds bet at craps, the player is an underdog at every single wager in a casino. When you take insurance, you go from one bet with a disadvantage to two bets with a disadvantage. In the absence of empirical knowledge of the makeup of the remaining cards, more bets means you lose money faster.

Carry on.

Kinda why I take even money. It is a guaranteed win vs. a potential loss...I know the math says I'm .38% behind...but I'd rather have the win.

Also, this ignores any loose definition of 'counting' on my part. Again, I only take insurance on 20 if we've seen a run of low cards, thereby increasing odds of the 10 down.
agreed that can shifts the odds in your favor and make it a better bet.my only point is that even money and insurance are the same exact bet.by your logic, if you've seen a run of low cards, you should still take insurance regardless of how strong your hand is. it's an independent sidebet. dealer has BJ, you win the side bet. dealer doesn't have BJ, you lose the sidebet.
There's a reason Corky spent all his time playing poker in Vegas imo.

Because I was angry at the football gods?

Anything sadder than an airport hotel bar at happy hour? 4 guys in a row just hit on this chick that is at best a 5. She left. The 2 and 4 remaining look hopeful.

Would it be good shtick to dress up like The Count from Sesame Street and go sit down at a blackjack table?
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I thought you were saying that it is equally wise/unwise whether you have 21, 20 or 14
That's exactly what I'm saying.

Well there's one vote against.

Love pai gow. Even better if you can bet the bonus...you stay there long enough and you'll get a four of a kind or straight flush.

What's a typical minimum bet?
I've seen $5 tables in Vegas. Best game to play if you want to get hammered cheap. You get dealt 7 cards. You break them up into two hands, a five-card poker hand, and a 2 card hand. Then you rank against the dealer's 7 cards split into two hands the same way. If your five-card poker hand beats the dealers, AND your 2-card hand beats the dealers (AA is the best, 23 is the worst, 22 beats AK), you win. If both of your hands lose to BOTH of the dealer's hands, you lose. Otherwise, it's a push. There's no secrecy or trickery involved, and it's totally fine to turn your seven cards face up and ask the dealer to split them into 2 hands for you according to the house rules. Dealer must split his cards according to the house rules.

It's basically a 50-50 prop when you think about it... will 2 cards dealt to you beat 2 cards dealt to the dealer? Will 5? But in order to win or lose, you have to do both at the same time. So it's about 25% of the time, you win, 25% of the time, you lose, and 50% of the time, you push.

It takes a little time to deal out the cards, reshuffle, and get a new "hand". You can play with several people at once against the dealer, like blackjack. So you can get in a lot of drinks while you're sitting there. $50 on a $5 table could last more than couple of hours, easily. And if you're too drunk to think straight, just turn your cards face up and ask the dealer to do all your work for you while you just sit there and watch. A friend of mine was able to sit at a table for six hours on $100, the last 2 hours without touching the cards at all because he was so shammered he couldn't figure out what was going on.

Great game.

Non gambling question:Do any of you intentionally manipulate situations/people at work for your own amusement? Just asking for a friend. :bag:
I work with enough loonies as it is. No need to manipulate anything. It would be like letting a chicken loose at a demolition derby. Nobody would probably notice.

Down with hotel bars. However, airport bars are generally splendid because they're full of people that are ready to drink at any hour of the day along with sales girls who are dressed to look their best.

thx...isn't there a joker involved? and what's this bonus thing that Rudniki mentioned?

The only time or two I tried pai gow I was bored out of my ####ing skull.

If someone is seriously just trying to pass time and get free drinks and not lose money, I would tell them to play the pass line on a cheap craps table and not play any other bets.

I accidentally got all drunk tonight. Trying to help wife find some park she's supposed to take the kids too tomorrow to meet some friend. Doing this instead.

Quit my job today. I decided it was taking too muchof my life, and wasn't worth it. Going to be interesting to see my value in the market, once word is getting around...

Whoa! Just catching up and there's a lot in the past few days. Congrats to you and to HOMER!!! BTW, made my Copenhagen plans last weekend. Only going to be there Friday-Sunday (June 8-10) but open to ideas. Have my hotel already and am going to do Kiin Kiin as one of my "big" meals. Read that it's the only Michelin-starred Thai restaurant in Europe, which was intriguing. Want some good traditional Danish, too.

Nice little mini vacation! O'hare to CPH direct?

Give me an idea of what you'd like to do, besides culinary targets. It truly is an amazing town.

I'll check with one of my exes to see if she's in town. I'm not that in tune with the fashion schedule anymore, so not sure where she'll be.

If she's at home she might be able to give some pointers or know of some cool events she can give you access to.

Good luck, buddy.
Thanks GB. I'm not overly worried. I know this market very well, and my sector has a huge shortage of talent. Just going to be picky and find something with better work/life balance, and a place that is financially sound enough to actually pay bonuses on time.

I'm actually coming in from Luxembourg. Tried about a month ago to reserve Noma just in case, but no dice (I'm on a waiting list but not optimistic). :( Mostly in terms of to-dos, I just like to walk around. And walk some more. And stop in between walks for a glass of wine. And then walk. Then wine. Etc.One of my colleagues on this trip is going to stop in Amsterdam on the way home, and the only definite advice I've given is that they MUST stop at the french fry place you sent me to. I still crave those fries and the Thai peanut sauce. My god.

you're not kidding, I crave those fries often... It's been way too long since I was there.Sooo many options for eateries off of Strøget (basically a long street, with no cars, just for walking, translates to "the street to stroll on" or something similar).

The Royal Cafe: http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Restaurant/Kobenhavn-1160_K-The_Royal_Cafe-204440-41102

I always stop there for pastries, and their smushi (smørrebrød and sushi combo).

Schønnemann: http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Restaurant/Kobenhavn-1127_K-Schonnemann-307060-41102

Classic smørrebrød place.

Sommelier: http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Restaurant/Kobenhavn-1127_K-Schonnemann-307060-41102#description@poi=112802_41102

French brasserie with great wine list.

I don't have any connections with Noma unfortunately. I'll ask some people I know that is in the business, but no guarantees.

You should do Tivoli at night as well. Well worth it, even if it feels a little cheesy. Some good pubs in there.

I'm trying to recall the name of an Italian/Danish fusion restuarant just off of Strøget, but drawing a blank right now, and can't find it on google either.

The good news is that everything is close. Oh, you have to have a traditional Rød Pølse from any of the permanent street vendors as well. It's a must.

I'll add more as I think of it. I think I posted additional details earlier.

My fat ### started crossfit a week and a half ago. I haven't puked yet, but I've had to break a couple times to get some fresh air and water so I don't.

No food or drink here, but it'd be a great place to see.

I haven't been feeling well the past couple of days, not sure what is going on. Anyway, I went to bed early again (8:45) yesterday and had a terrible nightmare. The Syndicate put a lot of money on The Preakness and lost. I don't remember the name of the horse we bet but the winning horse was Parma John. :lmao: Instead of paying our debt somebody decided to pay the book a visit and we killed two guys. After the deed was done we couldn't figure out how to get the bodies out without detection because we were in a big high rise apartment building. So somebody decided we should play cards, chop the bodies up and eat them. They tasted like fish. I was more than a little relieved when I woke up this morning and realized it was all a dream and we didn't lose a lot of money.

Day 2 at the gym. 45 mins of cardio on my own. Did not puke. PROGRESS!! Also spent 10 mins in the eucalyptus steam room. It was amazing, except you couldn't see anyone except their feet. If anyone has a hit out on me, that would be the time and place to do it.

I haven't seen the original Bad News Bears in years. I know it has some pretty strong language/ethnic slurs, but other than that, any issues with showing it to my kids? I have no interest in the re-make....
How old are your kids again? I saw the original when I was like 9 years old. Look how I turned out.
Picked it up at the library yesterday and we watched the first half of it last night after their baseball game. Loved it. Had to turn it off at 9:30 which is a little past their typical bed time. Fun going back in time and watching movies from the 70s. My sons got a real kick out of it...the cars, the arcades and the brand names they recognize today under new and improved marketing (Dennys, Coke, Pizza Hutt, Budweiser). "Dad that can of Bud looks a lot different than the can of Bud Pop (my dad) drinks." :lmao: Course I was laughing the entire time because the movie itself reads like a graveyard of Tanner alias accounts....Chico Bail Bonds, Rudi Stein, Kelly Leake. :lmao: Is the actor who plays the Yankees manager the same guy who plays the Caddy Boss in Caddyshack? Can't wait to finish this tonight. Sidenote, now that Blockbusters are all closed down, I don't know where else to get DVDs than the public library, which is fine by me. Free has always been my favorite price. But my experience with the little Red Box kiosks is that they don't have old movies. Just new releases. I realize I need to spring into the 21st century and pay money for Netflix to stream through my BlueTooth or somesuch, but I don't have a clue how to do that or where to start and I don't really want a monthly expense. What do you folks do for older movies on DVD?

:lmao: No.Brian Doyle Murray (Bill Murray's brother)

Vic Morrow/Roy Turner. Vic had his head cut off by a helicopter while filming The Twilight Zone movie. Also the father of Jennifer Jason Leigh

ETA: Kelly Leak has never been a TannerBoyle alias.
