GM's thread about nothing (35 Viewers)

I'm going into semi-retirement from the boards for a month for a massive arbitration that starts tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know that to to the best of my knowledge my absence is not due to me being killed or kidnapped by a stalker. If I don't come back in 5 weeks, trigger the FBG Buddy alarm.

Rude, when's your draft in Vegas? That a Saturday thing? Friday? For some reason I can't recall the timing of things last year.
I'm drafting Thursday this year. Not sure what the plan is on Friday yet. Should be free all day Saturday. Sunday I think we are watching the games at the Palazzo sports book.
Is this a good spot for games? I'll be VEGASING for CFB opener.
I don't know, but I assume that it is pretty good. Some other FBG rented a private box in there so we reserved a spot. It's not cheap but I think it includes all food, drinks, plus private tvs and stuff.
How much? How many in a box?

this is the only info on it I got:
We are planning on having a Sunday Viewing Party at Lagasses Stadium. $133 gets you a Private Luxury Box for 30, both morning and afternoon games, food, booze, 3 flat screens, Pool table, games and all the crazyness you can stand.
so, $133/person * 30 is like 4 grand.

This is my new favorite sig on the boards:

If I'm understanding this correctly, this guyhas the same user id at something called RT, here, and FF LiveWire and for some reason feels the need to let everyone know he's using the exact same, not common in the least, user name. Plus the super long interests thing is pretty annoying.

for the lazier, non rich FBG...I'm a big fan of the las vegas hotel (formally hilton). One of the last places with free drinks, and they're plentiful if you tip $1/round. Tons of TVs and chairs, plus they have a spillover area in their theatre that is huge (I'm pretty sure they do this for college, but you might want to check). Cheap beers in the theatre.

Most of you know my mom is very ill and still grieving over the loss of my stepdad. Taking care of her has been an exercise in frustration control and patience.

The highlight of her life right now is when my kids come over for the weekend. This weekend went well, but the strangest thing happened Sunday. My 3 year old daughter came up to my mom and says, "Grandma, you are going to heaven because you are floating." The room got strange, and I inserted a quick joke to move things along, but it has kind of creeped me out all day today. Felt like our own Sixth Sense moment.

How long does cookie dough last? I bought a 1 pound tub of dough in November '11, and found it in my freezer this weekend.

Will it still be good if I bake it this week?

If I'm going to go through the trouble of making them damn things, I'm sampling them myself. If I don't die or get horrible macadamia dyareea with in 15 minutes, I'm feeding them to my lady friend.

Shut It Down

So, I'm kind of proud of myself this week. Sorry in advance for this. It's been a particularly horrible three weeks.

First, one of our business units had a huge acquisition (for them) that my tiny group was in charge of, and a few days before closing a major environmental issue arose. After two all-nighters, we closed the deal on August 1, only one day later than the ridiculous and unreasonable schedule our business guys expected.

After closing that in the morning, I thought I'd get a break, but then that afternoon learned that we were going to try to do a debt offering, originally targeted at $300 million (but rose to $1 billion) in one week. Seriously no way to express how impossible that seems to be, also especially given that one day before pricing that deal we were announcing our earnings and filing our quarterly report, for which my group is also responsible.

Somehow my little team got it done (with two more all-nighters last week) and priced a $1 billion dollar debt deal on August 8 at 6-1/8%. Unbelievable and awesome.

Now, I get to stuff that is completely public at this point, so I'm not pulling a Woz (sorry GB), but I have to be careful still. Wednesday August 8 we priced a $1 billion deal to close on August 17. On Monday, August 13, my boss learned that we had re-forecasted internally to an extent that it put our deal at peril because of this. Basically, we could try to close but the right thing to do was tell our underwriters of the change in circumstance. This is Monday afternoon.

By Wednesday we had gathered all facts and decided to pull the deal and relaunch based on new circumstances. To be clear, this was way more likely than not going to kill the entire offering and potentially put the whole company--and about 40,000 employees--at risk. But still it was the right thing to do and we did it. In one day, we pulled a $1 billion offering and replaced it with a $750 million deal, which turned out to be at a much higher interest rate (7%). I worked about 72 hours straight. But we got it done, and the deal was launched. It appears that no one--not our lawyers, not our underwriters (JPMorgan and others) have ever experienced something like this. Here's a not fun article about it discussing rarity, but the difference in ours was that no outside intervening force occurred, AND we managed to relaunch successfully.

All in all, the worst week I've ever had at a job. We're now scheduled to close Tues/Wed, so I'd appreciate thoprawishes to hope it happens. Pretty proud, in any case, that the company did what was right and also that my tiny, tiny team accomplished this (along with my boss).

ETA: Also, I'm really good at ordering pizza!!!!!!11111oneoneone
 Great job Krista.

I have some props for a Service Master company and some not so-much props....

I bought my wife a Merry Maids gift card about 6-7 years ago, maybe more, but she never used it. Now with her in a wheelchair and me not being able to keep up so good, she called to use it. They told her it never expires, so it was still good.

The  is that they did a horrible job. All she wanted was the kitchen floor cleaned and the bathrooms. The kitchen floor was half done, dust and dirt left in plain view the bathrooms were ok, but nothing special.

I guess good help is hard to come by.

Sorry for the hijack. :bag:

:hifive: It's no frills, but if you want lots of TVs and free booze, it's the best bang for your buck. The grill they have is basically "in" the sportsbook, so you can literally go from 9am until the last 00:00 and the only time you won't be watching football is when you're taking a leak. We're going in late Sept. and can't freaking wait. 3rd time in 4 years.

Oh yeah, the hotel rooms are extremely cheap as well....plus since it was a hilton, they're still pretty decent rooms.

The only downside is that it can get pretty smokey in the sportsbook, but if that bothers you just move to the theatre.

Thanks, all. I did get a shout-out (along with a lawyer who works for me) from the CEO in our emergency investors' meeting last Thursday evening--we were the only people mentioned by name. So that's something, or really nothing.

We are scheduled to close part one tomorrow and the rest on Wednesday, so continued thopras are appreciated until this is over.

ETA: I can't say anything about Merry Maids, buddy. They're doing great, but I've heard complaints.
