This is Portland...they serve beer everywhere. I think there's even a few churches in town with a pony keg. Of course they serve beer at minor league hockey games. Who the hell would go to those sober? (apologies to you and Charv).Yeah, we have tickets through my work for the Blazers, but they are going to be terrible this year. But - and as I've told Shuke - we have club level tickets, so all the free food you can stuff in your pie hole. Anything from hot dogs and pizza to BBQ shrimp and pork loin. Only thing you have to buy is booze. Take the Amtrak down. Stay downtown for a night. Fun place.

I've always thought this was unfair. I've had candidates show up in jeans and an untucked polo and I just can't take them seriously. I wore slacks (PM Shuke for details) and a sports coat - not tie. I was probably a little overdressed but was comfortable enough that I wouldn't look like I didn't care.Business casual is perfectly fine just don't wear the Hillary power suit.

Well, things are going swell around here.

I think I mentioned in here how I got some pretty bad viruses on my work laptop and stayed up all night trying to fix it because I had to get some work done, on a Saturday night. Well, after numerous attempts by various IT guys to fix it, it became impossible even to get it to boot so they had to reimage it. Unfortunately I haven't backed up my .pst file for years (I thought it was automatically backed up to our network drive). 7 years worth of email gone. You want to see an email hoarder? I probably save 50 emails a day, all in a very organized file system. A lot of these emails contain documents that I usually don't save, because I find it easier to search through my saved emails. So on top of being swamped due to traveling for 2 weeks when I basically did not have a functioning computer for the last half of it, now I've lost all that crap.

I finally had to go back to my foot doc this morning. I wasn't supposed to see him until my toe surgery in November, but my plantar fasciitis in my other foot has become unbearable. I could barely get around yesterday. So he gave me a cortisone shot and put me in a walking boot for 3-4 weeks. Awesome. What a pain in the ### this thing is. Especially since I drive a manual and have to screw with taking it off and putting it back on whenever I have to drive.

On top of that my wife has been feeling horrible, although the last two days have been an improvement.

A lot of bad karma ever since I blew hack off in Chicago.

Missed this last night. Sorry for your yucky stuff. :(

Would love to meet up but headed up to the San Juan Islands on Saturday.

What about Monday night Football? Packers/Seahawks.

Our flight leaves at 10:40. Given the time zone, this could be workable.

Luckily I don't own a power suit any more. I'm sorry to be such a freaking chick about this, but do you think any kind of jacket might be a no-no? I was thinking long skirt, no hose, open-toed shoes, black shirt and black jacket. I could sub some other type of top for the shirt and jacket and go sans jacket.Again, apologies for my vajayjay.

Had that "40 under 40" awards event thing last night. As you recall I had to select a song that would play as I was introduced and walked up to the stage to receive my award and have my picture taken and then sit on stage with the other winners. An added bonus that I wasn't aware of was that prior to the event we had a private open bar cocktail reception for an hour. I took full advantage of this.

When they made the introductions, they gave a brief bio on all of us and then said the winner's name and the person would walk up to the stage as the crowd would applaud and then the chosen "theme song" would play. I was one of the last to be introduced. The first person chose "Beautiful Day" by U2. Most of the others were stuff like "A Moment Like This" or "Good Life" I quickly realized that I might be the only person who took this "theme song" business as a joke. But then some oddball selected "Staying Alive" and did some disco moves as he walked up to the stage. Another person had some rap song. So I felt a little better as I get ready to go up, but then again I was a little drunk so I was more concerned with not tripping or falling down as I walk on stage.

The speaker began talking about all of my accomplishments and background info and then he said, "OK folks, put your hands together for Mr. Gadzooks" I slowly walked up to the stage as the crowd clapped (about 8 of my co-workers were in the front row along with my parents) And then the sound system belted out the beautiful voice of Mr. Lionel Brockman Richie: "Hello... Is it me you're looking for? I can see it in your eyes, I can see it in your smile...." Most of the clapping stopped as most people had a confused look on their face as they were realizing what the song was and then most started laughing and clapping louder. As I approached the stage there was an elderly woman in a wheelchair that I didn't know, but I stopped looked at her, did a double fist-pat to my heart and pointed to her and winked. Got on stage and took the picture and then sat down while all of the other award winners were telling me how awesome my song was. The speaker then said how weird it was that they put on this big event and now the only thing people will remember about the night is that some weirdo picked a Lionel Richie song for his music. The rather heavy set woman sitting next me whispered to me: "haters gonna hate" I whispered back "lovers gonna love". It was pretty awkward for me and pudgy after that.
