GM's thread about nothing (26 Viewers)

Tonight we're playing a game with our 2.5 year old where we have her dog toy on a blanket, and we're tossing him up in the air. Out of nowhere, unprompted, she says "We have a great family." How ####### great is that? She's also pretty advanced, linguistically. My wife and I look at each other, amazed, and she just keeps rolling right along with throwing the dog up in the air. She'll also completely melt down, and an hour later, apologize to us unprompted. Kids are pretty awesome. They can also be a massive pain in the #### and they guarantee you're going to get laid about 82% less than you normally would, but it's so worth it. I think. I'm pretty sure.COWHERD! :towelwave:
you give dog toys to your kid?
It's a stuffed dog.I think we played with a ball today that's made for cats. :bag:
I'm not judging. Kid toys are expensive.
You can make toys out of anything, really.
We brought our 18 month old to a birthday party this weekend. She found drink coasters on the coffee table, and for the next 2.5 hours, "circles!" were the best and most entertaining thing on the planet.Which meant Otis could watch football
For xmas this year, I'm doing the following:1. Filling a big box of with a ton empty water bottles2. Filling a small box full of strawsI guarantee they'll like these gifts over the basketball hoop, toy lawn mower, toy bench set, etc that we get them

My boys still play in the box the new patio set came in. Cal stuck a flashlight through the top so they can have see with the "door" closed.

I watched Loony Tunes last night with the boys. I'm more than a little pissed. Bugs Bunny, my childhood hero has gone from a smart ###, quick thinking tough mother, into a whiny, scared little tool. I want heads rolling damn it. :hot:

There were some chicken breasts that needed to be eaten so I've been thinking about Chicken Parm all day today. Except Mrs. SLB at one of them. So I made Chicken Parm (it was awesome)and followed that with some pancakes & sausage with blueberry syrup.

I think I might be pregnant.

Is the word "I" broken or something?
Otis won't be lured out of character by this stinky bait. How's your kid?

Zooks crawled into the wrong side of the bed?

I don't know what this means but I miss Zooks. :(

Can this Campbell character throw to Marshall for 150/1 or 90/2? I'm debating even watching
Am I the only one who watched him play against Houston? He was atrocious.
campbell wasn't good enough to hold on to the starting job for the raiders.
They were 4-2 with him until he broke his collarbone last year. Then they panicked and made a dumb trade for Carson Palmer midseason.Career: 74 TDs/50 INTs isn't terrible.
Yeah, I know all that. I watch football too. Just never been a big fan and what I saw last week was...putrid. Maybe he's not healthy?

I was just disputing the story that he lost the Raiders job because he sucked. Maybe he does, but this is also a great defense he's facing here and the Bears line is godawful.

hey degenerates, alex smith is out tonight. Bears +6 is free money tonight
I already bet money this week on a failed, 1st round QB turned vagrant, journeyman backup. The Bryon Leftwich experience was horrendous to watch with money on the line. No way in hell I'm backing Jason Campbell tonight, I don't care how many points I get.
I think this bet is more about the Bears defense vs a guy named Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick is going to pVVn.
:goodposting:

Thank you all for the kind words. It's pretty rough for my wife, but I'm glad the kids are too young to really know what's going on.

GM, pretty sure the Seattle trip is still on and so is Portland.

YSR, a heartfelt congrats! I know how hard it can be, so I'm very happy for you and the volleyball player. ;)

My parents are coming into town today for the first time since last September. At the time I was still with the now ex-gf, so this will be the first time ever that they've come out with it being just me (and my daughter). As some of you might remember, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer. She had a lumpectomy and just ended radiation last week. Things are looking good/hopeful that all the cancer is gone and she can live a normal life from here, but she's been using this trip as her motivation to get up everyday and go through all that. Every time she saw a doctor, she would ask if she was still going to be able to make the trip here for thanksgiving. So I'm trying to go big this thanksgiving and make it one she'll always remember. I've been slowly cleaning my apartment over the past 2 months, throwing out/giving away at least a third of the non-furniture stuff that was in my place (including >2/3 of my daughter's toys!), turning it into my home and my space. The metamorphosis of my back bedroom from storage unit into guest bedroom was finally completed late last night. I think everything is in place for their arrival mid/late afternoon including decorating their bedroom with pictures of me when I was little and some pictures of my daughter.I have a massive thanksgiving feast planned, which should be awesome since my mom still sees me as a little boy and is still surprised/impressed that I do laundry, etc. I'll be smoking 2 turkey breasts, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, apple and bacon stuffing, asparagus, butternut squash soup, along with pumpkin cheese cake, apple pie and strawberry rhubarb crisp. Oh and my mom is a big Patriots fan, so ending the day watching them beat up on the Jets should be the perfect nightcap to an awesome day

I can't express enough how m,uch cancer sucks. Wife just called, her dad passed after 5 months of being diagnosed with brain cancer. I might be going off the grid for a while, or not, all depends on what's happening over the next couple of days.
Sorry dude. Best of luck.

I have awarded myself the Red Badge of Self-Restraint today.

My 'today in history' is about the first Harry Potter movie being released. I put up some 'then vs now' pics of the cast including this one hot-as-balls Emma Watson. The one incredibly obnoxious, thinly veiled homo kid in my class says "Ewww...ugly hair cut...she looks like a boy!".

Devil on my shoulder: 'Don't you like boys? You little fruitbat.'

Angel on my shoulder: 'Remember your career!!!!'
This kid is slowly becoming my least favorite student. He's taking on the role of the ditzy girl that thinks people think she's cute when she's stupid. Today we're talking about the soccer player Pele. This kid asks "Isn't there a candy bar named Pele?"
:lmao: Pretty funny.

My second cousin's ex husband kidnapped their son earlier today and the assumption in the family is that he has left the country, very likely never to be seen again.

My friend's dad has been fighting cancer since June, and recently has taken a huge turn for the worse. Guy has cancer every-*******-where. My friend is still convinced his dad is going to be ok. Utter denial. I hope he comes to terms with it soon or it's going to wreck him. Said friend also has quite the extensive history with hard drugs, has really cleaned up his life over the last few years, and I'm worried that his dad kicking off faster than he's ready for could send things in a bad direction. Don't really know how I can help - I don't want to say "look, your dad is as good as dead" but I want to do something.

:kicksrock:

Thanksgiving at the Hoarders on Thursday, casino en route to SC Thursday night, then Thanksgiving with my secessionist mother Friday afternoon. Should be fairly uneventful.

(except for when we tell both sides of the family that YSR Superbaby is due June 28, 2013) ;)
Congrats!

Oooof, sorry Pro. Only advice I have on the latter is to just be there when your friend crashes and crash he will. :(

I will be. I have no choice. Complicating things is that said friend rents one of my upstairs rooms out.

Going to go 13-1 in St. Louis Pitt's football contest, good enough for a 17-way tie for 4th.
3 people went 14-0? How many people are in this thing? What does it pay out?
I'm joking, but....TWENTY people went 13-1, including me. I finished 5th. Why? Because the tie breaker is "TOTAL POINTS" for the MNF game. I picked 36. It landed on 39. Pretty damn neat. :hot: Pays pretty well. Not that I've ever seen a dime from it, but I've heard it's pretty nice.

I agree with GM. Just worry about being there for him when it happens. There's no way that he's going to be really prepared for the end, realistic or not. The only thing you can do is try to help make sure he doesn't pass up any time or experiences with his dad because he really thinks it's going to get better. Just try to listen once it happens. My friend was very realistic about what was going on with his wife, and he still starts sobbing uncontrollably at the drop of a hat six weeks after she passed.
