btw, is the shark move to live in Vancouver, WA?No state income tax and you can do all your shopping in Portland with no sales tax.
I believe so.
Yeah, I thought so too...so I lived in Vancouver for the first 18 months of my time up here. That. Sucked. Vancouver is a suckhole with nothing to do except chain restaurants and meth. It's a bedroom community and there are a lot of folks who do what Rude advises, but I'd rather pay the state income tax and live here. They call it Vantucky for a reason.
Vancouver in theory >Vancouver in practice

You'd think a place right across the border in WA with massive tax incentives would have some decent development and options for the non white trash set.

It seems like a terrible place to have a high end retail store selling anything - you'd have to compete with prices 15 minutes down the road that are close to 10% less.

Yeah, you'd think. To be fair, there are some pretty nice spots. Schools are very good in parts and you can get a really nice home for the money. There are some good restaurants on the river and they have tried to breathe some life into the downtown area, but it still sucks as a whole. There is a lot more Whiskey Tango scattered about, rendering any decent pockets pretty sketchy by comparison to what you'd find in Portland. There aren't any quaint neighborhoods like you have in Portland or Seattle. And again, the idea that you'd just live there and buy everything in Portland goes out the window the first time you try to cross over the bridge with heavy traffic. You might think you'd just jump over to Portland to buy a loaf of bread, but an hour and 15 minutes and 10 miles later and you'd be changing your tune.Like I said, I was there for nearly two years and the place was just....creepy. Plus, that drive across the bridge after a night of bar hopping is much longer than it is heading to the bars. I'm lucky I...well let's just say I'm lucky. There is something very excellent about being able to take the light rail home at night in 20 minutes or having a $20-$30 cab ride tops.

So Guster, do you wash your pajamas after every wear, or do you figure you are pretty clean when you go to bed and get a few nights use between washes?
I usually wear them once or twice a week, but wash them once a week - usually I also have underwear on, so it's not like they are getting dirty

it's not so much rural as small...it's kind of a vacation destination for people with yachts. mostly upscale, clean, low crime, good schools. just not a lot going on, especially in the winter. ended up here because that's where the law office I worked for is.
I used to live up in Port Townsend when I was a little kid. Been developed into a tourist town now, but I couldn't live in a place like that for long. The suburbs bore me so a small town would get old fast.
Here's an indication of the size/variety of things to do here: people got excited when they announced that we're getting an Applebee's next year. The worst of the TGIFriday/Chili/Bennigan's type restaurants. Tacoma's 5 minutes away, but Tacoma is teh suck, and it smells bad.

pajamas AND underwear?!? I wear pants under protest while I'm awake. no way I'm wearing all that to sleep in.

That's because even if you're wearing pegged, skinny jeans it looks like you're wearing bell-bottoms.

I was more thinking you could make a run to Costco and/or a grocery store on the weekends to stock up. Plus, you could do your clothes shopping and stuff across the border once in awhile. Seems like the savings would be significant. When I stayed up at the Red Lion near the bridge, the drive into downtown Portland didn't seem bad at all so all those restaurants would be close by.Wouldn't make much sense to drive 15 minutes or longer for a loaf of bread to save a dime on the tax.I don't know what the housing situation up there is, but I figure there are probably others doing the same thing. If it's not more developed and popular, that area must really suck to live in. I could see the bridge traffic getting annoying, but most people that live in the suburbs and commute into the city each day have to deal with traffic (Seattle is horrible for this).

So I noticed a missed call from my dad a couple minutes ago. I call him back and he says he got into a fender bender in the Eagles parking lot, both of them agreed it was the other guy's* fault and wanted to know what to do. I start to say just get the guy's name and insurance info and he interrupts me - "well it's too late now."

I'm like, did he flee the scene? No, my dad says, he offered me $200 cash and it didn't look to bad so I took it. I give an audible sigh.

"What?!" he says.

"Well what if it costs $800 to fix?"

"I looked at it and it doesn't look that bad."

"Well I suppose with all those years working at the body shop you would know."

"Oh."

* My dad described the other guy as "Spanish-Mexican-Hispanic."

So i was diagnosed yesterday with Sixth Cranial Nerve palsy. Basically double vision due to weak muscles in my right eye because of a vascular event. Anyone have any experience with this? I asked if wearing a neck brace would alleviate my symptoms. My humorless Asian neurologist said no. My wife looked at me like I was crazy.
As of this past Tuesday I'm cured. Damndest thing. Neuro guy said I was one of his faster recoveries. He said it was an early xmas present. I said are you allowed to say xmas to your patients? He said, I can say anything I damn well want to, good luck! The eye thing really freaked me out. I'm down 15#'s since Halloween. Working out 3 days a week and eating my veggies. That cruise over xmas is gonna kill me.

:lmao: The fact that "tucky" is used as a derogatory suffix all the way to Oregon gives me an unreasonable amount of amusement.
