GM's thread about nothing (11 Viewers)

Oh krista. I'll get a VIBRO review up in the next couple of days. You wanna check it out before I post? It's gonna be all good.
I would suggest leaving out the word "midget".
Also "sex trafficking"
And dictate it to Julio.

Review below sent to VRBO. I recently returned from a week's stay at Casa Paloma. The house is spacious and comfortable; Old World style with modern amenities. The neighborhood is safe and is filled with incredibly nice people (sit on the front stoop and within a minute you'll be chatting with a neighbor). Markets, stores, shops, and banks are within easy walking distance - as is the town square with all of its entertainment options. Julio (property manager) is fantastic - he can arrange tours, transport, etc... and is always available to help. Paloma is about a 10 minute ride from Lake Nicaragua and I would strongly recommend a boat tour of Isletas on the Lake (especially the Isle of Monkeys!). Granada is also chock-full of historical buildings (some of the churches are unbelievable). Less than half an hour away is the active volcano at Masaya - you can drive right up to the crater. What else? There are always taxis - both motorized and horse driven - around if you want to just hop in and go somewhere. In closing, I had an amazing time and I'd recommend this property to anyone looking to visit this lovely city.
Not bad... would have liked to have heard more about the property and less about the surrounding area thoughAny more pics to share? What was the highlight of the trip? Best food you ate?

So I before I left for work this morning, I got a floater/flasher in my eyes, it looked like there was a huge kaleidoscope in my vision. It last about 45 minutes. Freaked out for a bit but went to work, I am swamped and will be taking a few days off for Christmas. I had set aside all of today to do 5 peformance reviews that I'm actually a few days late on. Called my eye doc just to get a heads up and he demanded I be seen today. Only problem was that he was booked. He's affiliated with a local chain so the other place by my work didn't have a doctor in today, so I had to go all the way back up by home for an early afternoon appointment. Everything is fine, he said I had an "eye migraine", I guess some blood vessels running to my eye suddenly dilated temporarily and it caused this.

So I leave and I can't see #### unless it's more than 4 feet away because my eyes were dilated, and had a headache so took a nap. Got up and my wife has a real migraine, so I had to help with dinner and get the kids to bed. So now I have to stay up all night getting these reviews done. Awesome.
WOW SHUKE THAT IS HORRIBLE. GLAD TO HEAR EVERYTHING IS OK. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR WORK STUFF.
Oh wow, thanks, I really appreciate it.
Easy, Mr. Pack.
But look at this!!!
Did you reboot?

I wrote that for the property's ad on the web, which is loaded with home info.Below will be my for-FBGs-who-don't-know-about-the-house review:The house is big. I'm just guessing, but I think it's probably around a 1,500 sq ft footprint. It's on a corner, which is nice because almost all of the houses share a wall (think single-story townhouses; krista's house has an atypical 3 levels, which I'll get to in a bit). The exterior is what you'd expect in a Spanish city - parged siding & terra cotta roof. On the main level, there are no conventional windows (sash & glass). There are some 12' tall double doors and 6' or 8' tall double-door windows with wrought-metal cages on the outside; so there's no glass (no issues with bugs, which surprised me). Open all of these suckers up and you catch a very nice breeze. The main living area is all open (no interior walls) - living room, several seating/dining areas, pool, and kitchen all one big room. There is probably enough seating between couches and chairs to seat 25 people. There's a flatscreen TV (cable), a DVD player (didn't use), and an I-phone dock which I used to play music using the Tuned In app (any radio station in the world that streams is avaiable). There are also board games and cards. The pool is between the living area and the kitchen with plenty of room to walk around either side of the pool. The kitchen runs the length of one wall - counters, sink, stove, fridge. Microwave, coffee maker, and water dispenser, too. She's loaded with dishware, cooking utensils, and glasses. All you need is food. The pool is, I guess, 8' or 10' wide and maybe 20'-25' long. There are steps at one end taking you to a depth of about 3' and it goes down to what - 10'-12', maybe. There are two seating benches in the deep end. Over the pool, there is an opening in the roof with wire mesh covering it to let air through - pretty cool watching it rain into the pool while cooking in the kitchen. The ceilings are vaulted and have several ceiling fans so it never felt hot in there, although temps outside were in the 90s.Main level has two bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms. Both of these rooms have double doors offering privacy from the main area. Bedrooms are very large. One has a queen bed and the other has two. The other lower level room is a combo laundry/bathroom.Go up the stairs and you come to an intermediate level which is like an elevated, outdoor courtyard. Tanning could be done here, and you could hang laundry also if you wanted to air-dry. Up another flight of steps and you come to another bedroom. This one has conventional windows, a bathroom, is huge, and has amazing views (you're above the neighboring houses). I actually thought I'd be staying here but too many steps for my old ###.Activities in my next post.....eta: there is no "yard".

Not to be a downer, but there isn't much about Casa Paloma in there.
I thought the same thing. On a wholly unrelated note, can I get a price list for bouncy castles? And are there any that would hold drunk shuke-sized people?

I didn't do nearly as much stuff as I thought I would. There were a couple of reasons for this: one day, Julio had to go to the hospital because he had a kidney stone; and another day and a half I lost to a stomach virus (I chalk it up to coincidence as I drank bottled water and didn't eat anything raw that I shouldn't have).

Saturday: Julio got me at the airport (small & easy to get through; $10 to get through immigration so have at least that much cash handy). He was the first person I saw standing outside a glass wall and he had my name on a card. It's about a 45 minute ride from Managua, depending on how many horses you get behind on the highway. Anyway, we got to Paloma around 2 p.m. Julio showed me around and left. I was whipped so I basically just lazed the rest of the day, drinking a few beers and some rum.

Sunday: Julio came on foot (he lives close by) and we walked to the grocery store (maybe 4 blocks). Loaded up on food, booze, beer, cigs, etc.. and headed back by taxi. We didn't plan any activities for the day, so I bade him a good day and watch the Bears/Vikings game in espanol. Basically a repeat of Saturday p.m.

Monday: this was the day Julio had his kidney stone and we bagged our plans. I walked to the grocery store to get more beer and Sambuca. Hung out in the pool.

Tuesday: we went to the volcano at Masaya (half an hour ride). That is a "must-see", IMO. You can drive right up to the crater with its smoke/steam/sulphur rising. There's also a museum for the volcano on the way up that I would suggest as it really gives you a good lay-of-the-land and some history of the area. Next to the crater, there's a refreshment stand where you can get fresh cocoanut milk or more conventional drinks. After this, we stopped in the town of Masaya for lunch. I let Julio order for both of us and it was outstanding. Steak, rice, beans, some other stuff I'm forgetting. Oh, and he brought (memory fail again) something over when he picked me up that we ate at Paloma. Back home mid-pm and a relaxing evening (though I think this was the night I met the neighbors).

NOTE: On all of these excursions, I paid Julio for his time. They are not part of his duties at Paloma and I think are a big supplement to his income. He's a great guide, though, and knows his history.

Wednesday: Julio brought over nacatamales. Damn these are good. We hung out for a while and had a few drinks listening to music. I think he had a transport job so we didn't plan any excursions. This was the day my stomach started acting up.

Thursday: laid low by the virus.

Friday: Busy day. Julio took me around Granada, showing me many of the historic buildings and sites. The churches are incredible. We climbed the bell tower in one where you could see the whole city and the Lake. Then we went to Isletas, which is a bazillion islands near the shore of the Lake (not the few huge isles you see on a map). To see these islands, you need to rent a boat (dirt cheap). Of course, Julio "had a friend" and off we went. You wind down these little rivers between islands - some islands empty, some with houses, some with bars, and one with monkeys. We had brought tomatoes to feed the monkeys and started by throwing the tomatoes on shore. One brave lass eventually jumped on our boat and we handed her tomatoes to eat. Once we were out of food, she jumped from the boat back into the trees. We rode around some more, just looking at wildlife and stuff. We didn't go out onto the Lake proper (wrong boat for that) but, if I go again, I'm hopping a charter boat to do some fishing. Julio "knows a guy" who can do that too.

That's about it. I didn't do any nightlife down towards the town square area. By nightfall, I was either tired or sick. Plus, there was plenty of entertainment right outside my door. There are always people walking down the street selling something - fruit, cigars, ice cream, etc.. - they are not pushy like in some places I've been. A simple "gracias, no" and they're on their way. There are fireworks going off ALL THE TIME - Saturday night, Wednesday 6 a.m., didn't matter. Had a phalanx of drummers one evening - those guys were good! Horses are everywhere - pulling carts and as taxis. Bikes & scooters, too.

All in all, it's just a really neat city. It's cheap (I don't think I ever spent more than $15 for a meal and that was for two, along with me drinking beer) and the weather is great. It's different than being on a resort where all of the employees are there to cater to you. Here, you're living in a residential area where people are going to work, school, whatever. Lots of Americans appear to live there and most people working in public places speak enough English to get you around should you need help.

Give us a recap.
Not much to tell, really. Just one portly albino in a visor with a nest of uncontrolled hair, one 6'8" gigantic Norse Viking, a demure Italian gal and a 5 month old infant bar hopping around a city in pelting rain searching for the perfect bloody marry. There was one change of clothes, a waitress who thought I was a food critic and a tiny little pepper that brought one of us to our knees. I wish I had taken a picture of Charv hunkered into my front seat. He looked like a white Shaq trying to sit in coach seating. :lmao:
Charv is a legit giant. I'm 6' 4" and I felt like a kid next to him. Had to get on my toes to get a picture with him.

Just got this email from Iona Mooneyhan:

First World Problem:

I want nothing for Christmas, and I mean nothing. How do you get this through to family members whose only way of showing love is to buy you presents, leaving the price tags on so you know down to the penny how much value you had this year?

Lllllama> you pumped about the new Blaze stadium and the hiring of Ken Griffey Sr. as the manager?
everything i've heard is that their stadium was so horrible that it was basically the last pick when choosing affiliations and every time the affiliate agreement was up, the team would leave. maybe now they'll be able to hold onto a team for more than a couple of years and people will actually want to play there. it's still bako though, so...
That's pretty much it. The stadium is old and falling apart. The worst part about it is that it is build almost backwards. The outfield fences are on the northwest side of the stadium. That means if you're batting you're looking right into the setting sun. They have to start games later in the evening so that batters aren't blinded. It's almost comical. The new stadium will be part of a bigger complex including restaurants etc. I might actually go to some of the games once it is finished.

:lmao: We couldn't remember the group responsible for "Whoomp! (There It Is)". :wall:

I took a date out to trivia night once, we picked "If there was a problem, yo I'll solve it" as our team name because of a running joke we had going. We started out pretty good, but when we got to the round where the guy gives once clue at a time about a famous person and you have to guess who it is, it took us almost six clues to get the person's identity. It was 'Vanilla Ice'. :bag:
