Oh, that wasn't a nap...Thursday night, Mellyhole 3, I stayed up until way past 4am, tending to a fire out by the lake, drinking whatever I could find, smoking whatever was around. Everybody had long gone to bed. I think Tre might have gone to bed at 9pm that night. When I finally turned in for the night, there wasn't a couch, bed or square piece of comfy land anywhere to be found (I didn't know there was a tree house fort with an empty mattress available). So I finally just curled up in the bathroom with some towels. It was dark, quiet and I figured nobody would disturb me. Course, when 20 dudes woke up with pee boners in the morning and an urgent need to unleash the myriad 12-oz hounds, I got treated like a dead raccoon on the shoulder of a busy highway. Nobody slowed down to help me, but many took pictures as they whizzed on by.

I finally got up and started drinking immediately. Big mistake. I never recovered. I was done until late Saturday when I made a comeback at the bowling alley/strip club. "ALOHA"!

Calling BS on 9pm, but there were a couple nights I was one of the first to go down thanks to PowerTed™...never earlier than 12 or 1am though. That stuff was TREkryptonite.

Yeah, I've smoked a LOT of ganja in my life. That stuff was unlike anything else I've ever inhaled. Good gravy.

You did...no doubt about it. I handled it fine the first night, but again, I was coming west to east, wasn't drinking nearly as long as the rest of you as I was the last to arrive and was geeked up to sit out and watch a thunderstorm on the lake. That next day...jesus.

Sounds like K4 is basing this on one restaurant in Chicago.

I lived in Boston, NY and Chicago for a total of 25 years. Not once did I see biscuits and gravy on a menu, and as you all know now, I've seen a lot of menus! Maybe things have changed now. Hell, country music became popular in places other than TN over the last 20 years, too.

The manager I'd be working for was very intense and asked, "What happens when you are working for me on a big project and your phone rings and it's your business and they urgently need you?" i replied that we have set things up for that not to happen but I could tell he wasn't convinced. So I'll need to work on that one. The upshot is that I just checked my Job Status profile thingy for the company and I'm now "Under Consideration" status (moved from "Resume Acknowledgement") for 11 other jobs there. I didn't have a nauseous reaction walking back in to the building for the first time since I quit 6 years ago, so that was good. It actually would be a fine place to work provided I can fetch a decent salary.

No. They did ask why I wanted to come back to company X and commented that my answer was great. It was a genuine answer about how, from afar, it looks like the company is returning to its roots of being customer service based and has quit trying to sell commodities against the competition. And I told them that I wish someone had called on my business years ago with our needs in mind instead of simply trying to sell me something that didn't fit.I did misstep saying I was passionate about sales when the position is a technical sales support role, but I recovered by saying that I remember how valuable the sales-support people when I was there before and I am eager to be that kind of team player. My other mistake was not having a good answer for "where do you want to be in 5 years? Ten years? Are you wanting to come back for a long term future here?" I'll work on that one for next time. i replied "I'd like to move in to management" instead of saying, "I'm hoping the role is interesting and dynamic enough that I enjoy it for a long time. Ideally, I'm hoping the role is interesting and dynamic enough that it puts me on a path to some technical mastery that will allow me to move up in the organization and have an even greater positive impact on a broader part of the company." SOmething like that.

Biggest plus there is its BYOB, so that will slash the cost by half, at least.

So we leave the bar and go check into his hotel room and he does what most American motorists do while checking into a Quick 8 or a Super 6 Motel Chain...he leaves the car in that little pull-in alcove, goes inside to check in and then goes into his room to unpack, open wine, poke some smot, log into the FFA, turn on the TV. He just left his Camero out in the little check-in alcove for like 2 hours while we farted around his room.

That was after he stayed at my house while I was on a bender. I taped the key to my house on the front door, made sure he was stocked with booze, and saw him for about 45 minutes at a bar in the 2-3 days he was there. I was passed out drunk and forgot he was staying in my guest room and he scared the living hell out of me by waking me up in the morning to see if I was going to go watch football.

Generally we don't use much gravy at all, which is a crime, but white gravy seems to be a generally Southern phenomenon. Also the idea of asking by color is something I can guarantee Yankees don't do.

My heart goes out to all those Yanks who don't know the deliciousness of biscuits and white gravy.

Longtime Yank here. Never knew about biscuits and gravy. Never came across it. Never had it. Didn't know it was such a staple.

One time a few years back, I'm working on set as a production assistant/gofer. James Garner was doing a small role and showed up that morning, and I brought him to his dressing room. Since he's old and walks with a cane, I ask if there's anything I can get for him. He asks if there's breakfast at craft service and I offer to make him a plate. I go down and there's a full catered spread. I figure, it's James Garner, he's going to want a man's breakfast. I load him up with a ####-ton of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, home-fried potatoes and hash browns, grits, the works. I think I filled up two of those oversized 11-inch styrofoam plates. I skipped all the stuff I thought was "chick stuff"... yogurt, cereals, etc. One of the trays had biscuits and gravy, and, being a Yank, I had no idea what it was there for or why anyone would want it. So I bring all the food up to his room and let him get ready for the day.

About 45 minutes go by and it's time to bring him to set to rehearse the next scene. One of the assistant directors walked him to stage through the back entrance by craft service. I'm just sitting there minding my own business watching rehearsal when all of a sudden I hear this bellow from behind the back wall: "Gawdammit Sarnoff... you didn't tell me there were biscuits and gravy!" Everyone started cracking up. He came around the corner and started joking around like he was going to crack me with his cane. "Now go fetch me a plate!"

That's how I learned how important biscuits and gravy are.
