GM's thread about nothing (23 Viewers)

A short while later, we were back to hanging out on the patio and drinking when a miracle happened. Krista showed up!! She had texted YSR to let her know that a package would be arriving that afternoon, but didn’t say what. We were speculating that it might be the bottle of Pappy Van Winkle she had mentioned buying in the thread. But she did show up, with the Pappy and I won some of Thorn’s loot. U-H approved. We couldn’t just let it sit idle there, so we poured out a finger or so for any takers. A shot video without shooting. Actually, you should have seen the look on Krista’s face when I suggested doing a shot video with it. Thankfully, while we may come across as heathens, everyone knew this was for sipping… thus the worst shot video ever.
I was having issues with the shot vid link this morning, so I uploaded it to Youtube and changed the link.I'd love to see some of the pictures that the other coshole participants took too

I don't have such a great love life. Divorced and moved to NYC around the millenium, was lucky enough to fall in love again. But she called off the wedding six weeks before the big day. That was expensive (lost deposits, wasted $$ on invitations, dresses, $16K ring, et al), but it's just money, you can always make more. Pretty tough on a personal level, though, and to be honest I was never the same.5-6 years ago - about a year or two after I got dumped - I was banging this average looking broad just because it was convenient, didn't take much effort, she was way more into me than I was to her, etc. Then I got sick - not life threatening sick, but it was a debilitating illness. Knocked me out of work for several months, and I spent six months in physical therapy learning how to walk again. That average looking gal came over often, brought me food, medicine, whatever I needed. It didn't make me fall in love with her, but I was grateful.Well, sheeet, one time after she made me chicken noodle soup we had teh seks. I was pretty much fatigued all the time at that point - too damn tired to get up and walk across the room to grab a condom, and so few things were working on my body I think I kind of figured I must be shooting blanks, nothing else was working the way it should. Of all the dumb luck - she was supposed to be on the pill, I never went bareback except that one time. Whatevs. She didn't tell me about it, but a few months later I heard she was preggo. So I did the right thing and told her I would be supportive and stick with her. Most of my friends were telling the opposite - GTFO, she's a lunatic, and they were right. But I could never do that. My daughter, now 4-1/2, she's amazing. Couple of you are friends with me on FB and you know how much I adore her. It never quite worked out between me and her mom, but that's alright, no regrets - I'm constantly humbled and amazed to be her poppa. I've got a boy who is 10 years older, and those two are the best things that ever happened to me.Her mom and I tried to make it work for awhile, but we're oil and water, I never got over the old fiancé, and I was never really into her. But I tried. One of the last major blowouts we had (3 years ago) before we called it quits, she was ragging on me about posting her pictures online. Now, I only posted pics of my toddler/princess...but it was on her Picassa account, and I guess she had the view settings to public. So if someone looked at that picture of my daughter, they could snoop around the folders and see what other pics were there.I kind of forgot about the argument.Found this today.Amazing, huh? I go to that place about once a year. The guy who started that thread, I think I've interacted with him once in the 7-8 years I've been here (in GMTAN, a few years back, philosophical disagreement about alimony - and that was a good 18 months AFTER he post:e:d that). So I just had an epiphany...dug around the innerwebs, found out you used to not be able to know who was looking at your Picassa page, but then they changed it so you could see if someone linked to your pics. When we had that big blowout 3 years ago, Shirley (daughter's mother) was in tears because people on the internet were making fun of her.Now I don't give two sheeets about what morons have to say about me or my daughter's mother. Her reaction to me - whatever, it wasn't the tipping point, it was just another dot on the continuum, we were never going to make it. But you know what else she did, besides pick a fight with me? She stopped sending pictures of my daughter back to my family. You guys might remember when my mom passed in October, 2011. I posted about it here in GMTAN.So the last 20 months my mother was alive, she missed seeing hundreds of photos and videos of my daughter. Oh, I would take a few and send them to her, but prior to being cutoff, my daughter's mom would post like 60 photos and a half dozen videos on her Picassa album every couple weeks. All that stopped cold because of that thread I linked above. It takes a special kind of internet ##### to #### with somebody's personal life in a devastating manner. Congrats, Drifter, you got that going for ya.ETA: advised bypassing the language filter is not a wise move
Odd thing. I'm sitting here at home hanging with the family and I decide to pull out my phone and check out the GMTAN - something I typically don't do (on the phone at home). Low and behold this is the most recent post.Let me say one thing first. I am truly sorry about your current situation with your kids. That sucks and I empathize. Now, let me continue on and put the brakes on a bit.Let's put things in context here. You were an enormous ####### in that Lindsey Vonn thread. You bagged on her. You bragged about how your standards with women would never allow you to deign to so much as grant her or anyone else who wasn't staggeringly hot, a pity date. I responded with that thread.I in now way intentionally ####ed with your personal life. Your issues with your wife were not caused by me and I don't think you are insinuating so here, but I certainly made no effort to bring that thread to your wife's attention. The reality is you post on a board publicly and if people want to find out about you, they'll find out.Years ago, I had a girlfriend who found out that I was going to break up with her because I posted that I was thinking about doing so here. Nobody's fault but my own for bringing that up on a public forum.Again, I apologize about your current situation and I apologize that I took offense to your condescension in the aforementioned thread and called you to task for it. At the time I thought you would see it more in the moment and not years later and never thought much about it again. I should not have dragged your wife into it as she didn't deserve it and for that, too, I apologize. I also did not call her ugly, I honestly meant to point out that she was not hot to the standards you were boasting about in that thread. However, I in no way intentionally reached into your personal life and ####ed it up. I will take a lesson from this that I should be more mindful of hurting the innocent and truly, had I known that someone could backtrack through Picassa as you say I would have been more mindful, not for you, but for her. Again, I've learned a lesson and I feel true sorrow at the pain I caused your ex wife because it was truly unfair to her but I will insist that you also are not purely innocent in the discussion as it was your braggadocio and condescension that put the ill conceived idea in my head at the time.
You should write a book on how to apologize. That was incredibly well done, Drifter. Constantly amazed at the overall intellect of the average GMTAN poster.

BostonGirl just replied to my creepy message with:

"Hi! Thanks for the message. I'm actually surprised we haven't met each other before since we have close mutual friends. It would be great to get to know you better! Do you ever come to Boston?"

I STILL GOT IT!!!!!!

As for the privacy settings things and such...... I can't handle the search function on this site and it takes me an hour to link a picture in here. I would need to hire Hock Meng Tay to handle my FaceBook settings.
So the date is tonight. There is a lot of build up going on which means this will probably end badly I'll end my night bailing Thorn out of a Boston jail and then getting drunk with him in our matching Reeses shirts.I asked a couple of close female friends if they remember BostonGirl and they said they did and thought we'd be perfect together. One friend has a cousin who is close to BostonGirl and she asked her for some info on her and she told me that at the same time BostonGirl was asking the cousin for info about me. The cousin really talked me up about being a great guy and that if she wasn't engaged she would go out with me in a heartbeat (nice to have a backup plan) I've been getting several texts this morning from friends saying how excited they are about my date tonight and how they really think BostonGirl and I are going to hit it off.

Two nights ago I was in a garage with a freaky stripper mother of 5 and now tonight I'll be having a nice dinner in the NorthEnd (Italian section of Boston) with a more "polished" girl than the stipper-freak. Life is a rollercoaster sometimes.

Last night was Science Fair night at our boys' elementary school. As I've done in the past years, I volunteered to be a 'Reviewer' for the event, meaning that I'm assigned 5 experiments to examine, talk to the student who did it then write a few paragraphs in their book and then sign it at the bottom.Well, we got there late last night after going out for family pizza and a nice cold PBR. I dropped the family off, parked and waltzed in. The lady checking me in gave me TEN experiments to review as they were light on volunteers. So I set off to do my job, but after taking the first two seriously, I got struck by the giggle gnome and went full on Tanner shtick with the rest. For example: "While I enjoyed the effort and liked your project, I feel like it could have been improved if you used the Force" - Obi Wan KanobiAlso appearing at the Ridgewood Science Fair as a guest reviewer last night: Barack Obama, Stephen Spielberg, John Madden and Super Man. I have a feeling I won't get invited back next year. :bag:

I think if there's one thing that can bridge this gap and bring us all together, it's admitting that Lido Shuffle is a truly abhorrent song. Yes?
My dad went to St. Marks school with Boz Skaggs (and Steve Miller until he got kicked out - Steve, not my dad). And I love Lido Shuffle.

Drifter is a good dude in my book. Sucks what happened but I think most of us have said or done things we'd regret later.
Amen. I was a little ashamed I even posted in that thread because I really like and admire Bobby Lane, so I feel terrible that I might have been laughing at his expense. As a guy who has had way too much of his personal life exposed for public consumption, I know what it feels like and it's not fun.

This is going to seem weird but I'm reposting for BL because he told me he wished he had quoted it. I deleted as I thought it too sappy and sentimental. Here you go, buddy. :)

Hi friend. You know I adore you, so I am just about in tears about your missing the opportunity to share the pics with your Mom, who I know was such an inspiration to you (and to many others...I remember rooting for the damn Tigers, as a White Sox fan, just to send her off appropriately).I can't get in the middle of this as Drifter has been a guy that was a great source of help to me when he didn't need to be. We all have our good moments and our ####ty moments. And some of us have evolved a lot through the process of being here, and especially being in this thread where generally strength and kindness are celebrated and ####tiness is not tolerated. The internet is a fun and ultimately screwy place. We act in ways we never would in real life, but increasingly the internet IS a big part of real life, and so we are constantly making adjustments and understanding who we are as people and how it relates to who we are as iPeople, and those lines get more and more blurred. So hell, I'm not saying anything helpful, except I want you to know you're my dear friend and someone about whom I care a lot, whether a "real" friend or an iFriend, which is increasingly becoming more and more blended with "real" anyway. I actually somehow missed the issues with your wife, but there is no way I could miss knowing how much your incredibly beautiful and brilliant daughter means to you. I feel horrible that you and your family have had this pain, but please know how much many of us care, truly.
I was wondering where that post went. I read it late last night on my phone and thought it was wonderful. I hope one day you are put in charge of something really important for the betterment of our society.

I'm currently laid up sick in bed - I never really shook the cough from the upper respiratory infection I got a few weeks back, and it's gotten worse this week. I woke up today feeling horrible and I know that my husband is going to force me to go to the minute clinic soon since it's pretty clear that I have some kind of infection again.

But I'm lying in bed with the chills, so he kindly brings me an additional blanket from one of our couches. Problem is, it's the blanket on which one of our cats likes to pleasure himself. I woke up about 10 minutes ago to this cat finishing up on top of my leg and now he's just lying there, spent. How long should I leave him be?

This is a weird day.

Alright, I’m finally getting around to writing my synopsis so grab a cooler full of brews, settle in to the comfy spot on the couch and get ready to read far too many words used to inadequately describe the awesomeness that was Coshole.

Prologue

I’ll start off by saying that I had met some of the cast (link) before – I hung out with GM a couple years ago in Portland; I’ve met up with Thorn a couple times when I’ve been back in Maine; I was in a local fantasy football league with Homer – but by and large most of the crew was “new” to me. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. We all have crafted our own iPersonas here (except Pickles, who is from the internet), but I never know how much of that is genuine vs. playing a character.

As for me, I was part giddy like a school girl before prom <insert homer joke here> and part horrified like the father of a school girl before prom that I was flying 1100 miles to hang out with a bunch of people that I met off the internet. I mean, it does sound like the start of a terrible B movie that Frosty would live blog about.

I have wanted to go to Austin for a long time, so I was super excited to finally get there. I’m pretty sure I told everyone that would listen and likely several people who weren’t listening at all that I was going to Austin. Everyone I know that has been to Austin told me that I would love it and wouldn’t want to come back home. The prospect of hanging out with some fun guys for a long weekend in a city I was sure to love had me beyond excited.

I’ve been thinking about how to describe the feeling of the weekend and keep trying to find the right words to express the emotions of the weekend. The closest that I can come is to call it like a family reunion, but with the side of the family that you actually like. Like what I imagine black family reunions to be like, except I’m not black, so I’ve never been to one. I mean, we had t shirts and everything… pretty sure that black family reunions have t shirts. And barbeque.
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Gonna have to go with CQ on this one, k. There are far worse songs (like Rush's entire catalog). "Lido" ain't near my favorite Boz song, but it beats the hell out of - oh, to pick a song entirely at random -
CQ and U-H like it?

It's too bad that the soon-to-be-diagnosed stripper VD's are going to ruin everything with bostongirl. :(

UniAlias is awesome. Sending candy to a fatguy.
Holy crap you know Greg Stumbaugh? My sister used to date him in college.
Your poor sister. Man, I hated that guy. Truly, madly, deeply.
Greg Stumbaugh just sounds like one of those people you know you'd detest even before meeting them.
But my name is Greg Stumbaugh....
Shut up, Greg.

4:37 AM and I'm really way too ####### drunk to read all the Gushter recap right now, and I'm too confused to know what the hell all the iDrama going on is about.. but what the #### does BostonFred have against scotch?? That's just absurd.
That's ok, UA. I was up to take the handoff.
We make a good tandem. :hifive: Just finished the Guster recap. Good times. Regarding that Sunday bet.. I'm pretty sure we were both really drunk, and probably bet nearly half of all the plays in the first half. Lots of fun. The kickoff bet was just a throw away, no chance in hell of happening bet for fun. 20 to 1 for $5. :lmao: I think Guster was more excited it happened than I was. Really fun moment.

Even in other people's dreams I have great shtick.

Wife woke up this morning and told me she had a terrible dream about me cheating on her.

According to her she came home and there was some hot woman in our house. She asked me "Do you have sex with her!?!" My reply was "Yeah...but it was like an hour ago." :lmao:

Very well done, GB. Re: Thorn/Bogart...if there was a nice guy contest, these guys would tie for first. Really wish I had spent more quality non-angry drunk GM time with both.

WTF is wrong with yellow cheese?
It's almost exactly like white american cheese but it tastes cheaper, melts smellier, and looks like you got it after standing in line for 2 days in stalingrad. It's not that its THAT much worse than real american cheese, but why would anyone prefer it?
Are you talking Kraft singles or something? That #### isn't cheese.Sharp cheddar, a nice Colby or Colby jack, some goudas can all be yellow, no?
Yes, im talking about american cheese. Kraft, or boars head, or whatever you like. Youre fine with your sharp yellow cheddar and youre free to look down on american cheese if you want. Im not anti cheddite, or pro american. im just saying that given the choice between the two colors of american cheese, why would anyone pick the yellow american cheese? Yet there it is, taking up just as much space on the store shelves as the white american cheese, which means that for every right thinking red blooded american like me, there's some weirdo who actually prefers the gubmint cheese slices. And that makes no sense at at all.
Until I moved north, I never knew white American cheese existed. In 1970s Texas and probably the entire south, there was no white American cheese.

I lost $60K yesterday by staying at my company to get my bonus. Yes, I will more than recoup it, but it sucks. Our Comp Committee set our stock price $2/share lower than it had been previously, so when I leave and get bought back, it's at that lesser price. I still made money on the stock overall, but just a lot less. Yay.
As of 5:00 PM today, Mrs Limp makes about 60% of what she used to. :(
:( Dang, sorry man.
Ends justify the means. Lots of perks with new job, virtually no commute after having an hour each way for years, potential for a nooner once in a while. It will take some getting used to, but we found lots of ways that we piss away :moneybag: in budgeting for it.
It's amazing how much money you can save by just not spending it on useless ####.
Such great posting. Though sometimes I wish I had a little bit more useless #### than I do now
:lmao: I'll be figuring that out real quick, but also find myself looking at things I've bought in the last 6-8 months and wondering what the hell I was thinking when I bought that.We weren't rolling in dough, and I don't have extravagant tastes, but I haven't had to tell myself 'no' when it comes to spending money on something reasonable in years. Should be interesting. I'm much more concerned about the mrs' spending habits than my own.
spending money on experiences > spending money on things

I had to do it on the down low to escape chastisement, but I had the best six bourbon and cokes in my life during the SUperbowl.
