GM's thread about nothing (29 Viewers)

I like Boz mostly because it reminds me of listening to the radio in my mom's car when I was little. I have a 70s pandora station seeded with all that cheesy pop crap, perfect background music while I'm working.

Speaking of that, I just seeded one with Alabama Shakes and the Black Keys, and its already my favorite station ever.
Second time this week I've heard this band mentioned by people I respect. I'll have to check them out.

GM: Fistbump. One for .....
   Procured 5 22-OZ Oregon Craft Beers yesterday. Will be shipping them to you with some other 'goodies' this week.Mac = my hero. Helped an idiot design a T-shirt for my fraternity to honor a brother of mine who lost his wife to breast cancer last month. She did (no surprise here) a remarkable job.

Just YouTubed Lido Shuffle. Never heard that song before in my life.I guess I prefer this Boz guy's work with Steve Miller.
How is it possible to have avoided this song?
I don't know. Nothing about it seemed familiar to me. I just figured it was played on country stations or something.
Did you listen to the whole song?
No. I will now.Edit: Wow. Now I get it. I guess I needed to make it to the chorus. I'm not sure I like it or hate it, but I do know it. My bad.

So, I'll be 51 in April. My mother continues to give me "care packages" for Christmas. #### like deoderant, toothpaste, etc... This past holiday she apparently thought Axe brand was all the thing. Besides knowing it is vile sludge, I just found out that getting Axe body wash in your eyes will BLIND THE LIVING HELL OUT OF YOU.

Jesus Christ. I'd rather pour cucumber vodka in my eyes. Not a single hot woman has tried to rape me or my optical orbs since I turned into Stevie Wonder.
:lmao: :lmao: Love that. I just turned 55 last week. Mom still has those lifesavers books in my stocking (I hate them but don't want to tell her). She is pretty in touch, I think it just brings her back to another time - I kind of like that.
Oh holy hell, I got a lifesavers book too :lmao: Took it straight to work, where it's slowly dissapating.

I've never even heard of Lido Shuffle, and I don't think I'll be looking it up now
No clue what that or a boz scaggs is either.
Do you know who Steve Miller is? Boz and Steve were in a band together in high school called the Marksmen. Boz was the lead singer. They also played together in college at U of Wisc before branching out on their own. Both were devoted blues acts, but Steve recorded rock songs that were quintessential radio consumption tunes while Boz explored different stylings that were hit or miss with folks. "Lido Shuffle" is a goofy song to be sure, but I'll take it any day of the week and twice on Saturday over anything in Steve Miller's arsenal. I'll take Gerry Rafferty over both.

Steve Miller Band is gateway music into classic rock of that era. Goes down easy but doesn't have much depth or staying power. But I used to like it a lot in high school I think. Still never knew or cared who was in his band I guess. Boz Scaggs was always a name I recognized but knew nothing about.

I'm going to turn 40 this year. I lost my mom almost 2 1/2 years ago. You're going to miss those stupid mom things soon enough. Enjoy them. I promise you that you won't feel like you enjoyed them enough with her when you had the chance.
Love my mom, GB. And believe me, with all that's been going on with me lately, I'm appreciating everything. But Mom is at the top of my list.I did have to tell her to stop buying me clothes, though. First of all, I don't need clothes. Second, her taste & mine aren't exactly the same. Third, her asking me "what size underwear would you like?" is too much for me.

Yeah, Steve Miller's "Greatest Hits" was a tape that was in every single car I ever rode around in while in HS. Overplayed to death. Boz had nothing to do with any of those songs.Gotta love a guy who rhymes "Texas" with "Facts Is".

Miller is the only artist I dislike MORE as time goes on. "Fly Like An Eagle" and "Living In The USA" are about the only two songs of his that I can stomach anymore. His Greatest Hits album was a given to have in my collection; not anymore :puke:As for Boz, "Lido" is ungood. "Lowdown" is money, though, as is "We're All Alone" (done better by the Delta Lady, Rita Coolidge).

I was shammered when I sent that. The reason I asked is that last night at the bar that's what I was ordering. There were two bartenders on duty; a guy and a girl. When the guy made me my drink it came in a rocks glass (tumbler?) plain and simple. When the girl made them they came in a chimney glass with a lime and a cherry. I just wanted to know how our resident expert would do it. Then he had to go and hurt my feelings.
Lime and a cherry is proper, but I'd only do that for a chick. So she did it right for you...probably assumed it was for the missus.

I only lasted one weekend as a college student (booze & dope were vastly more vital then), so I can't compare to that. But coshole was one of THE best times I've had. As I've probably posted already, you & bentry were probably the biggest surprises to me based on what I "knew" coming in. And I appreciate you hanging with me that Saturday when I wasn't feeling well, COlin. I felt bad bailing on you.

I was so hungover today I was ready to kill myself. Got to work at 6 and felt good for a little while, but then got some sort of reverse second-wind...hangover hit me like a ton of bricks around 10. Only solution I could think of was to start drinking again. Shut down two bars (my own included) and now catching up here and pounding Miller Lites. And here we are. :banned:

So it's like a double-secret-reverse-hangover-drunk? I'm impressed with the dedication. No meat coma?

I just got nice and high. Then I sat down to enjoy the audio/video diversion of my choice. And instead of turning on golf, or scanning cable (and National Treasure is on, which I enjoy), or hitting the DVR, I came to GMTAN first. I might have crossed some kind of line. Also, I need to get a grip before my wife comes home in about 20 minutes.
Welcome, friend. :hifive:

No meat-sweats...I didn't really eat anything today. Couple of mozzarella sticks when I got to work, but I choked on one of them and almost threw up all over the place, so I wisely chose to stop eating. And "dedication" is my middle name, buddy. But only when referring to self-destructive vices.

T_M is good people. Of course, he's a Ravens fan so that alone gets him over the hump.

I just remembered that last night at the bar I got a free drink and $5.I got the drink because I noticed the bartender putting the round I just bought on some other dude's tab/slip. I pointed it out as he was writing it down and told him that I didn't want to stick somebody else with my bill. Bartender gave me a freebie for that. Then, at the end of the night when I went up to pay my tab, the bartender thought I wanted one more than then close out. The couple that I was with had just walked out and I was ready to go. So now I had a full drink so I sat down at the bar next to these two young guys. They were commenting that there were actually some hot girls in the bar this night (the weather here has been awesome so there were a handful of broads in short skirts showing off their getaway sticks). There were also some real dogs.I told the young guys "You know what the best part about getting old is? All these chicks are hot."One of the guys thought it was so funny he wanted to buy me a drink. I told him I was on my way out. He reaches into his pile of change on the bar and shoves a $5 bill in my hand. I tried to give it back but he insisted. It wasn't until I was halfway home that I realized I should have just given it to the bartender.
Nice. :thumbup:The boys are swimming. Cal said I should have brought my suit "because there are no diving signs everywhere." What a little ########.
Awesomeness to both posts. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I'm planning to go to New Orleans by myself next weekend. I desperately need to get away from everything and everyone I know. Mr. krista thinks this is crazy. I figure in a place like that I can either get lost in the crowd or wander off entirely by myself, or can join insanity as I find it. I also have a couple of friends there I could see if I decided to. Many options. Is this not a good idea? (GM not allowed to reply. ;) )
Fly me down there and we'll hang out. I'll keep you out of trouble.

Some of the best fake drunk typing shtick I've seen since Woz circa 2009.
<_< I still have no idea what happened that night. I found a post here where I was overboard lovey about my wife, then three hours later came this disaster.

We're working through the Game of Thrones series via Netflix. Apparently we watched two episodes Friday night, of which I remembered nothing. Total blackout. So we watched them again last night and at one point I shouted something in surprise, to which my wife says, "that's exactly what you said last night."

So my working theory is the wife slipped me roofie to run a pseudo-psychological experiment about repeated behavior. Pretty sure it's linked to her vegetarianism though I can't prove nothing until I don the Sherlock Holmes cap and do some super sleuthing. All I know is if she tosses out half the pantry, I'm grabbing my meat and whiskey and running to Motel 6.
