GM's thread about nothing (36 Viewers)

The Malaise family has planned out all its meals for the months of March and April
Are you joking?
no :mellow:trying to save money and plan things out - help cut down on food expense. hedge fund business ain't what it used to be.
Is Mrs. GM a vegetarian?
Yes, but she does eat fish.
Understood. You buying and storing food for that long, Costco style? If so, I wonder what your extra refrigeration costs are if you've got a second one.
For some stuff, yes. Things like ground beef and chicken are easily frozen and since my wife won't eat it and because we only have our boys 50% of the time, we don't need a giant freezer. In addition, when we cook out on the grill, I usually stop off at the store and buy whatever it is we're grilling fresh. But yeah, our garage shelves look like a mormon dwelling.
My garage looks like I robbed a UPS truck. F'n boxes everywhere.

Not to gay this thread up further, but we try to add some flexibility to everything. So with Mexican Monday, it can be anything, really. Fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, meatless mexican lasagna :bag: or anything else that might fit the bill. If every Monday was the same thing, I'd hate it. But there's some room for open field running. Those Mexicans sure have a lot of food ideas.
:thumbup:This guy just polished off a taco salad. Not meatless.
Don't you work basically across the street from me? We should have lunch sometime, I like meat.
You work at Bone Daddy's? Thursday?

Well to say things are going more poorly than I expected would be an understatement. Jesus. Will type more later. This is a disaster. :(

I've been avoiding that Lebowski thread because I saw the title, saw who started it, and knew I'd go all Walter Sobchak and end up like Donny.

It's four pages now. Anyone been in there?

Those Walking Dead nerds are taking that show way too seriously.
I just don't understand the fascination with zombies. Same deal with the vampire fad of the late 80s/early 90s. I'm not 10, so maybe I'm just outside the target demographic.
At their heart, both genres have interesting social & cultural critiques. Zombies worked as a great metaphor for the soullessnes of industrial factory life, and this translated well to critique the McJob cubicle hell of post-industrial life. Plus zombies are funny. Vampires have always been about sexual predation, and feminists in particular have done some good work with the genre. A good pop/tv example is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series.

Of course, like any genre, there's a lot of crap in the stew. I don't know where The Walking Dead stands, but see Twilight for a good thing turned into overwrought teen romance.
And yet this guy couldn't get into Glengary Glen Ross...I just don't understand the world sometimes.
I've never seen this movie but looked for it the other night on Hulu Plus. Not there. I was kind of bummed..... :kicksrock:

Probably because there are no zombies, vampires, unicycles, bluegrass rap or skinny jeans in it.

Prediction:

Krista's boss knew she was leaving. She told the team. People are threatening to resign/quit. Her boss's boss just found out and is furious that he wasn't told. They now have her in a locked room and are alternately trying to "break her will" and "give her a good reason to stay." She is trying to stay strong and hold firm but the spector of her coworkers that she adores crying and quitting has her reconsidering this whole thing.

Meanwhile, Mr. K4 is sitting in the parking lot eating pistachios, listening to Charlie Rich on the radio, and wondering what the heck is taking so long in there.

Close?

Thanks to all for the Seattle responses! Very much appreciated.

We may very well go to Dragonfish for a happy hour GM. If I had it to do over again, I may very well have let you drive my car, while drunk, for 45 minutes to Saltlick.

Not really.
:lmao: Damon called to remind me that I got very angry nobody would let me drive. I was hoping that the shtick was obvious, but in case it wasn't, I WAS JUST SCHTICKING!

GM is not down with the drunken driving.

Also, there's a bunch of cool, hip, trendy places that will have a happy hour for you in downtown Seattle starting at 3pm, but Dragon is my personal favorite. Be sure to use a happy hour app that will point you to all the current HH going on near you. If Blackberry has one, I'm sure your fancy phone will too.
I guess nobody remembers me saying "you're all a bunch of "freaking cats" let Forrest drive". Of course my BAC might have made you believe I was serious...

Job

The software company I was really interested in turned me down. Apparently my salary demands ($90k annual, no benefits) was too much to even start a discussion.

They do want me to put together some ideas on helping with their marketing and lead gen, which I might do. But overall im kind of bummed.

My wife was supportive saying "it isn't meant to be. Don't worry, I've built up a resistance to your professional instability over the last decade. It will work out" although I imagine part of her is scared to death inside.

To top it off I'm still sick so I can't even get drunk tonight.
Sorry GB. :(

Holy **** you guys have obsessive controlling wives. Mine's just neurotic and always thinks she left the stove on when we leave the house.

Frankly, I don't know what's better: micromanaged meals or turning around a mile out to check the ###### stove.
Not getting married? 'Sup Disco Stu.
BUT THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT!!!11

Screw 'em. Your plan sounds absolutely awesome to everyone who isn't selfishly caring only about themselves.
I'm with Frosty, screw you K4. ;) GLGB.

Just got done interviewing one of the "kids" from the job fair. He graduated from college 8 years ago so not exactly a noob. Really nice guy but obviously riddled with ADHD. He talked REALLY loud and fidgeted with his the buttons on his jacket, literally, the entire time. It reminded me so much of Cal, particularly a couple of years ago. Poor guy. :( It didn't help that Cal & Dyl were right outside my office door.

Congrats to you krista.

I am several days behind here, although I might just do a redman and read every third or fourth page.

After many frustrating sketches, starts and stops, I have started the " young guy wanting a poker mentor page" with GMTAN's own UniAlias as a model, (not that he needs a poker mentor, but he is one of the younger dudes in the thread.)
That is really awesome. Thinking back to my late teens and early 20's, I was always the youngest guy in the card room.. And there were usually one or two older guys whose game I respected and advice I always tried to learn from. They were genuinely nice guys and not using the RFW catch and release strategy, right? Right???
It wasn't all that calculated at the time. Instead, I would say, when trying to rationalize my behavior, that it was a symbiotic relationship. I was being a nice guy, but I was aware of the clear benefits of being a nice guy. If you think someone is going to be a good player and is a decent, relatively interesting human, it makes sense in every way to have them like you rather than have them dislike you.

My wife also has an obsession with checking the stove when we leave the house. Never before we leave the house, always as we're beginning to drive down the street. If it's not the stove, it's her hair straightening iron.

It'd feel like a prison of efficiency.Eta: don't get me wrong, I see the cold logic. I just could never do it. Then again i'd never dream of premixing my pb with my j either.
Do you need to be able to decide exactly what you're having for dinner based on your mood that day? When my wife was planning I wouldn't have any idea what was planned. I'd show up at home to a freshly cooked meal. Didn't matter to me whether or not she planned it 30 minutes or 30 days before cooking.

What's the problem with micromanaged meals? There's always something good to eat and I never have to cook it. Really not sure why you think this is a bad thing, especially when it involves reading massive amounts of books.
:goodposting:We used to sit down and plan out a week or so in advance (never two months, that sounds a bit daunting). But it helps get a plan together, save money on grocery shopping if done right, and allows for free time during the week if you can knock out a big cook on a Sunday or something. I haven't done anything of the sort in the last six months and can report that our free time, waistlines and pockets have all been negatively hit by the lack of planning.
My wife does a great job of couponing it up and getting certain items that are on sale depending on the week. It would seem flexibility is key there though because some weeks it's chicken, some weeks it's other ####.
People like meat in their lasagna? I hate when I'm at some function and somebody ruins a perfectly good lasagna by putting some crumbled up rat turd looking beef on top or in their sauce. Ricotta, mozzarella, tomato sauce, flat lasagna pasta. That's it, please.

And I'M the one breaking it to you? Jesus....gotime.com happy hours...pretty decent app for a guy who uses like 3 apps on his blackberry.

does the CEO have a boss?I'm not that familiar with corporate America.
Shareholders?
shareholders are rioting in Memphis!
I don't see any black smoke coming from East Memphis so, if they're rioting, they haven't started setting things on fire yet.I also haven't seen any white smoke, so they haven't chosen krista's replacement yet either.

Pretty much decided. Last day of "work" April 26 (when I'll be somewhere in Asia after my April 22 Singapore meeting). Travel a couple of weeks. Come back and work part-time/temp (I have an excellent opportunity available to me in this regard) while selling or giving away most of my possessions, with a target move to Nicaragua August 1, or earlier if someone buys my house.
bump for the professor

This is the one I get. 3-4 times a week, I'll get a text asking me to make sure it's unplugged. I've never checked. :bag:

Yeah, I read that. I figured there had to be more to it.

You have to ask more questions to keep the story going.
