For some stuff, yes. Things like ground beef and chicken are easily frozen and since my wife won't eat it and because we only have our boys 50% of the time, we don't need a giant freezer. In addition, when we cook out on the grill, I usually stop off at the store and buy whatever it is we're grilling fresh.But yeah, our garage shelves look like a mormon dwelling.

Not to gay this thread up further, but we try to add some flexibility to everything. So with Mexican Monday, it can be anything, really. Fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, meatless mexican lasagna or anything else that might fit the bill. If every Monday was the same thing, I'd hate it. But there's some room for open field running. Those Mexicans sure have a lot of food ideas.

I've been avoiding that Lebowski thread because I saw the title, saw who started it, and knew I'd go all Walter Sobchak and end up like Donny.

I just don't understand the fascination with zombies. Same deal with the vampire fad of the late 80s/early 90s. I'm not 10, so maybe I'm just outside the target demographic.

At their heart, both genres have interesting social & cultural critiques. Zombies worked as a great metaphor for the soullessnes of industrial factory life, and this translated well to critique the McJob cubicle hell of post-industrial life. Plus zombies are funny. Vampires have always been about sexual predation, and feminists in particular have done some good work with the genre. A good pop/tv example is the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series.

Of course, like any genre, there's a lot of crap in the stew. I don't know where The Walking Dead stands, but see Twilight for a good thing turned into overwrought teen romance.

And yet this guy couldn't get into Glengary Glen Ross...I just don't understand the world sometimes.

I've never seen this movie but looked for it the other night on Hulu Plus. Not there. I was kind of bummed.....

Also, there's a bunch of cool, hip, trendy places that will have a happy hour for you in downtown Seattle starting at 3pm, but Dragon is my personal favorite. Be sure to use a happy hour app that will point you to all the current HH going on near you. If Blackberry has one, I'm sure your fancy phone will too.

The software company I was really interested in turned me down. Apparently my salary demands ($90k annual, no benefits) was too much to even start a discussion.

They do want me to put together some ideas on helping with their marketing and lead gen, which I might do. But overall im kind of bummed.

My wife was supportive saying "it isn't meant to be. Don't worry, I've built up a resistance to your professional instability over the last decade. It will work out" although I imagine part of her is scared to death inside.

To top it off I'm still sick so I can't even get drunk tonight.

Just got done interviewing one of the "kids" from the job fair. He graduated from college 8 years ago so not exactly a noob. Really nice guy but obviously riddled with ADHD. He talked REALLY loud and fidgeted with his the buttons on his jacket, literally, the entire time. It reminded me so much of Cal, particularly a couple of years ago. Poor guy. :( It didn't help that Cal & Dyl were right outside my office door.

I am several days behind here, although I might just do a redman and read every third or fourth page.

After many frustrating sketches, starts and stops, I have started the " young guy wanting a poker mentor page" with GMTAN's own UniAlias as a model, (not that he needs a poker mentor, but he is one of the younger dudes in the thread.)

That is really awesome. Thinking back to my late teens and early 20's, I was always the youngest guy in the card room.. And there were usually one or two older guys whose game I respected and advice I always tried to learn from. They were genuinely nice guys and not using the RFW catch and release strategy, right? Right???

It wasn't all that calculated at the time. Instead, I would say, when trying to rationalize my behavior, that it was a symbiotic relationship. I was being a nice guy, but I was aware of the clear benefits of being a nice guy. If you think someone is going to be a good player and is a decent, relatively interesting human, it makes sense in every way to have them like you rather than have them dislike you.

Do you need to be able to decide exactly what you're having for dinner based on your mood that day? When my wife was planning I wouldn't have any idea what was planned. I'd show up at home to a freshly cooked meal. Didn't matter to me whether or not she planned it 30 minutes or 30 days before cooking.

What's the problem with micromanaged meals? There's always something good to eat and I never have to cook it. Really not sure why you think this is a bad thing, especially when it involves reading massive amounts of books.

We used to sit down and plan out a week or so in advance (never two months, that sounds a bit daunting). But it helps get a plan together, save money on grocery shopping if done right, and allows for free time during the week if you can knock out a big cook on a Sunday or something. I haven't done anything of the sort in the last six months and can report that our free time, waistlines and pockets have all been negatively hit by the lack of planning.

My wife does a great job of couponing it up and getting certain items that are on sale depending on the week. It would seem flexibility is key there though because some weeks it's chicken, some weeks it's other ####.
