GM's thread about nothing (34 Viewers)

Was "half again as much" an unfamiliar expression to anyone else? :unsure:If not, please help me see how it's an upgrade over saying "50% more". TIA.
I puked that out last night after a good bit to drink with zero proof-reading. I'm kinda proud I didn't just hold down the "e" key for a few minutes and post it. edit: you ####### ########, I can't ####### believe you'd ######## say that [/gmtantoday]

Saw cars with custom Skittles and M & M paint jobs today. That must mean that the Texas Relays are in town and all the white people are fleeing the city.

Hola, amigos y amigas.

Not a Uruk-Meltdown-Friday this week. I love everyone.

Cos, missed the Fed Ex pickup today. It'll go out Monday.

K4, you shame most of us with your decision.

CC, stop trying so hard - you don't need to imitate everyone's shtick. You're a sharp poster. Be cool, my friend.

GM, I miss our bedroom visits.

Gusher, wash your fingers/hands.

YSR, how's that kid doing?

T_M, bump the Ravens thread with something smart. I tried & failed miserably.

Uni, your hipster-in-Portland instincts are probably right.

Stu, .....nevermind; you need no advice from anyone.

Bentrey, I'd love to take you up on your offer to tailgate at a UT game. I don't care about going in.

Bogie, evidently your porn-eyes are terrible.

COlin, hang in there on the job front, my friend. You're a good guy and it'll come.

Kev, Head And Shoulders has come out with an entirely new line. You probably already knew that, though.

Thorn, make sure you lock your door at night.

Homer, keep that bar-back paid.

SAY WHAT?The only shtick I occasionally imitate is Tanner Shtick. And that's because I love him. Who doesn't love GMTAN Grandpa?Wait. Is Tanner Is Old Shtick trademarked or public domain? ;)

Had a 2nd interview today. It went really well. I feel a lot better about the possibilities moving forward than I did after the first interview. The head of their US operations told me I'd be moving forward in the process next week.

And I'm sort of dreading going in to work tomorrow because it's the first day working under the guy I really don't want to work for. I'm starting to think this job opening at this time might be a good thing. Now I just need to figure out how much $ to ask for.

Edit: They might want to pay me to fine tune my Spanish (read: undo a decade of neglect) and I might get some international travel out of the deal in Mexico/central/south America and Taipei.

Good for you pro. Your loyalty is commendable as is your trust that your boss will do right by you. But major shifts - like a new owner and manager of a location - impact any business, large or small. Keep on with the process, it may take a while. And if it doesn't, you can go to your boss and say "I need that raise now instead of later"

Pro tip: When in doubt, ask for more.

I tried that last week and didn't even get a counter.

It doesn't always result in more. It does always result in knowing what they think of you and/or how they handle compensation issues.

Well. This is true. Somehow my offer to work at 80% of market value was seen as "too much". So I guess the sweater vest didn't have the desired effect.

Good idea. If they aren't willing to negotiate up at all, they're not that in love with me and it's probably not a place I'd want to be long term. The position is an inside sales position officially, but I would be one of three people in the entire sales department - one equal and one superior, and I'd be responsible for the biggest secondary market distributors, possibly moving into some OEM stuff in asia depending on how I do. Director of sales handles all that stuff now.

They have kicked around the idea of outside reps. I'm thinking about proposing an inside/outside hybrid where I spend a day or two per week calling on some of the biggest local bike shops and negotiate a percentage comission based on what I sell while I'm out of the office. A way for me to earn more money, only spend 3 days/week at the office, and it would give them the opportunity to test something they've been thinking about anyway. If it doesn't work and I'm not selling stuff outside, they pull me back in, no harm no foul. If it works, I can do the job I was hired for in 3 days/week or from the road, and spend 40% of my time trying to be more productive. I think something like that might appeal to them, and it certainly would to me.

On top of asking for a bigger base.

I have a radioactive p##sy.

I'm not kidding. Just picked up him a few hours ago from the clinic in Las Colinas called Animal Imaging. They were great. He got treatment for a hyperthyroidism issue. He is now locked up in a room where I can only touch/pet him for 20 minutes per day for the next two weeks. On the car ride home, he was drooling stringy ropes of saliva. I cleaned it up with a paper towel but felt the moisture. Washed hands ASAP but I felt a slight burning sensation afterwards.

That is so hot.

I hate that he has to be so isolated for the next two weeks. He is already going nuts up there even though it is an entire room to himself. (Second office room)

On the other hand, he DID vomit three times in the car on the way to drop him off. He also sh-t all over the carpet in her car. I think he used to work with K4.

And my wife LITERALLY threw up thrice from the smell. All in the parking lot of the clinic.
