GM's thread about nothing (30 Viewers)

I wish she'd hatch the damned things already because I have some work to do around there but don't want to piss her off again. I was out there, blissfully ignorant as always of what's happening around me, pulling weeds a couple of weeks ago and all of a sudden one of the bushes came alive. Scared the hell out of me. She came out hissing and wings flapping. So now I go out every few days and toss her bread crumbs because I feel guilty for disturbung her :bag:
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: A garter snake slithered out across the bike path a couple weeks ago and scared me so badly I almost wrecked. Might have been smaller than my penis, but no less frightening. PENIS!
This is lovely. I get home and go out on the deck for a smoke. I see a hen with at least 8 chicks in the "crick". I'm all excited, thinking that "my" hen has hatched her brood. Look out the front door and no such luck. There's Sarah Palin (my term of, um, affection for her) sitting her nest of evil. My mail is going to be spilling out onto the road before I can get to the box (again, none of this paragraph is a euphemism). GM, can you bring your garter snake over here to scare the crap out of this Jezebel?
Hey Wild Bill, who is Chris D. on your facebooks? He sent me a friend request.

A guy I went to HS with. :shuked: as to why he'd send you a request.

My boys still talk about Bad News Bears, a year after showing it to them. I am so glad it was the original. I cannot even fathom how horrible and sanitized the 'rebooted' version was.
Not to get all soppy but one of the reasons why I love that movie has to do with my dad. My parents split up when I was about 8. My dad had custody of me every other weekend. Like a lot of "weekend dads" he always tried to make sure we went out and did stuff together...mini-golf, batting cages, pizza, and a lot of movies. He would let me pick the movies we'd go see. And being a stupid kid I'd pick some of the worst movies possible. My dad was a trooper though and sat through some really ####ty flicks without complaint. I remember it was a different story when he took me to see Bad News Bears though. He cracked up through the whole movie. I think it was the first time I actually picked a movie that he really enjoyed. A few weeks after we saw it a couple of my cousins came to town. My dad decided to take all three of us to the movies. One of my cousins asked if we could see the Bad News Bears since he hadn't seen it yet. I figured my dad would say "we already saw that." Instead he enthusiastically drove us to the drive-in and laughed just as much as the first time he saw it.

Drive is sort of polarizing. Some people love it. Others found it slow. I think many people watched it thinking it was going to be a "Fast and Furious" type deal. IMO it is one of the best movies to come out in the last 5 years or so. Albert Brooks's performance is fantastic.
Very good film. A great example of a director stamping a flick with his own style, but not ruining the film in the process (like, *ahem* Glen Gary Glenross).

My only small reservation is the style lacked originality. It felt a little too nostalgic.

One of my favorites films.

Made an emergency run to the grocery store last night for juice boxes with Little 'Zooks. Come out of the store to find I have a flat tire. Now I'm as handy with car stuff as GM is with Netflix or TRE is with running with a horse mask. I was still dressed from work and it was officially past Little 'Zooks bedtime and I've been dealing with some pulled muscle in my back and I have a sore throat (I'll just assume I'm not dying) I was trying to put the spare donut tire on, but he POS car jack I had was working very well (keep in mind I'm an idiot when it comes to this stuff) A girl comes walking by with her groceries and a stroller with 2 babies and she offers to have her husband help me when he gets there to pick her up. I told her no but she was insistent and then she asked to use my phone because her's wasn't charged. She calls the husband and I hear her say "we're ready, come get us, oh and when you get here get your jack out of the car and help this nice guy change his tire, he's in a suit and tie and he's getting dirty and he has his little son with him". So the husband pulls up and immediately gets his jack out tells me that he'll change the tire (I guess he could tell I was an idiot) He coudln't have been more than 25 years old. HIs car was a piece of junk and overall I was guessing this young family with one car was probably not doing great financially.

He mentioned that he just got out of work and I notice his shirt says a local cleaning company which I happen to know the owner. So I told him I was gonna call his boss and tell him what a great person he has working for him. At first he says, no don't do that, then he says, well ok my name is Justin. Meanwhile the wife is entertaining her babies and listening to Little 'Zooks tell her a story about how he won a fart contest in school today. I kinda stood there thinking about how nice these people were and if I would've done the same thing. I thought I wanted to do something else for them, and I thought "what would SLB do"... So I said to them "these are the times I wished I carred around Panera gift cards". They were shuked. I asked them where they like to go out to eat and the wife said they don't really ever go out to eat. I told them I was gonna get them a gift card to a nice restaurant. The husband said no and not to bother but the wife said "someplace nice? Like Olive Gardnen?" :lmao: I said "I was thinking Arby's"... again they were shuked. I told them I was kidding but I'd get them something. The husband wouldn't give in at first, but finally he gave me his address. I just got off the phone with the kid's boss and told him what a great employee he has working for him and at lunch I'm gonna get an Olive Garden gift card for them and a Toys R Us gift card for their kids. This seems like something SLB would do, so I figure its the right thing to do.
Very cool.

And learn how to change a tire, Kylie. Unless you want to start carrying gift cards in your vag to pass out to those who help you.
Or you could call AAA to change it while you're at home like Tigerfan.
:lmao:

Tanner, gimme a rough list of your favorite flicks.
Off the top of my head? How about fairly recent very good to great films:

No Country for Old Men

Drive

Gone Baby Gone

Pulp Fiction

Sideways

Quiz Show

Master and Commander...

Boogie Nights

Good Will Hunting

LA Confidential

I'm sure there are more but those are the ones that came to mind
Add me to the list of Quiz Show fans. Great movie.

How is "Usual Suspects" not on your list? Probably my most watched non-porn film. I was so close to naming Little 'Zooks "Kaiser Soze", but stupid ex-wife thought it was a dumb name for a baby. I think she's dumb.

Also, guilty pleasure of mine has always been "Beautiful Girls" (Matt Dillon, Timothy Hutton, Uma Thurman) When I watch it now, I feel like the movie kinda has a GMTAN cornhole feel to it.

Let's get back to Cah Tahk
I changed a flat on the side of an interstate in December when it was about 10* outside without gloves AND my wife in the passenger seat....I don't know how long it took me, but not long. However, I could barely feel my fingers as I drove to our destination. The wind chill from the passing vehicles had to have been well below 0*

Update home

just came clean to my wife that the amount of money owed us by the company is not 50k but rather 24k. She was amazingly calm about it. Chances are there will be a huge blow up sometime today but for now she was understanding. She seems to have convinced herself that I'm not a bad person and she loves every non-money-handling part of me and as long as I'm willing to be honest about money now, we can get through it. I honestly thought there was a good chance she would be packed and headed to her parents house before I'd even finished talking. Having a job no doubt helps her are that there is a future, which is why I waited to tell her in the first place. My thinking over the years would be that I would earn my way out of it with the business and shed never know. Then I thought I'd earn my wy out of it at the new job and shed never know. But I don't want to hide my success at my new job by acting like its money returned to us by the company. I want to celebrate being good at my new job with her. I want to move forward and quit lying to her about money. So, that's the update.

That's great you are trying to be more open with her but shouldn't you just hand her the keys to your finances? That way you can't hide anything or get in a bad spot like this again.

Man, your poor wife. Hits just keep on coming. Anything else you can come clean about now? Kill any hookers?

Oof.

Abe, what indication did you have that you'd be able to make gangbuster profits at your company? Sounds like a lot of self-delusion on par with what is shown on Restaurant Impossible. Those folks are routinely $500k deep with little hope of digging out of it.

Pretty good analogy here. I'll allow it.

Beautiful Girls is damn good.

Beautiful Girls makes me feel like Homer J.

Eyes Wide Shut was okay. I wanted to really like it, but the whole premise was stupid. Nicole Kidman admits to dreaming about being with another man and that leads Tom Cruise to some sort of never ending quest to even the score? Huh? And you know what really pisses me off about that movie? Kidman fires up a joint. She takes a puff and then launches into a deep, long diatribe without re-hitting the doobie. You know what happens when you don't puff on a J? IT GOES OUT! TRUST ME. Know what happens to hers after a long pause? Fires right back up. I hate that. Figure a guy like Stanley Kubrik would take better care of such things on the set.The nudity was nice.

Terrible, horrible stinking pile of dung.

If you like Paul Giamatti...Win/Win was awesome.
Would that be appropriate for my sons? I'm looking for a good family movie and I've been meaning to check this one out at the library. Last two movies we watched as a family: Parenthood and The Jerk. Both were well accepted.
I don't think there's anything more shocking in Win/Win than in Parenthood.

It's an excellent movie.

Agreed.

How come nobody casts Michael Rappaport anymore?
Paul: Supermodels are beautiful girls, Will. A beautiful girl can make you dizzy, like you've been drinking Jack and Coke all morning. She can make you feel high full of the single greatest commodity known to man - promise. Promise of a better day. Promise of a greater hope. Promise of a new tomorrow. This particular aura can be found in the gait of a beautiful girl. In her smile, in her soul, the way she makes every rotten little thing about life seem like it's going to be okay. The supermodels, Willy? That's all they are. Bottled promise. Scenes from a brand new day. Hope dancing in stiletto heels.

Another great scene involving Rappaport:

Paul: See these guys? Pete, Rizzo and Sammy B? They work all day and drink all night for 40 ####### years. Two weeks out of the year, they take a vacation and go to the Cape. What do they do? They drink all day, they drink all night. If we don't step it up, we're gonna wind up just like them.

Kev: Cool.

he directed the ATCQ documentary

also had a bit of a stalking problem I think.

he was great in Higher Learning as Remy.
ATCQ?

He was the stalker or he was being stalked?

I've seen Higher Learning more than a handful of times. It's not a great movie, but it's one I can't stop watching if its on. Kristy Swanson, Jennifer Connelly and Tyra Banks all in their primes.

I'm going to a premiere of the Great Gatsby tonight where we are supposed to 'dress up' in 20s attire. I find myself in need of a sweater vest.
