I went out drinking with a bunch of Scots last night. Never a good plan on a Wednesday especially when you are tagged to sit in on a meeting with the VP of North American Ops in the morning and that has zero to do with you. The only thing that kept me awake was the pounding headache.

Still not sure on that. There were moments of brilliance and then there were some dead-spots. Probably need to watch it again.

Pretty much my take too. Some parts are visually great. Some great scenes. But the film as a whole failed somehow and I've never been able to pin down why. It's probably because Tom Cruise stars in it.

Speaking of Kubrick, I still haven't seen Barry Lyndon. It's supposed to be great. Anyone? Is it worth the time?

I've seen Higher Learning more than a handful of times. It's not a great movie, but it's one I can't stop watching if its on. Kristy Swanson, Jennifer Connelly and Tyra Banks all in their primes.

Now here's an example of a woman I find utterly annoying but would absolutely love to bang until I died of a heart attack.

Eyes Wide Shut is based on a 1920s novella called "Traumaville," written by some obscure author. When the news broke that Kubrick was finally doing a new movie, I got all geeky and I tried my damnest to find a copy to read.

Couldn't locate a single one. You'd think someone would have bought the rights and fired up the presses. Kubrick geeks alone would have guaranteed a profit. But nope.

When I saw it, the only thing I knew about wine was that it was what I drank at weddings if it was free. I've since come a long way, baby, but Sideways was a perfect movie for a wine noob who has never been through Wine Country in California. I can see that criticism, however.

Ahhhh...the 2009 Cab. I know it well. An ambitious little wine but not to presumptive. Delightful oakey aura with just suggestion of ambergris and fennel. Some would say even a suggestion of lanolin and retsin.

Yea, there's concerns with Baz, but then consider it's Baz shooting for 3-D (Gatsby in 3-D, ), and it's got potential for a cluster####.

Reviews are lukewarm so far. Not a total disaster, but not great either.
