GM's thread about nothing (41 Viewers)

I tend to post this stuff late, with not much of an audience. Here's another one.

Next Monday, ao begins its transition into a wellness retreat. Call it Paleo, call it ancestral health, call it anything you want. I have aligned with Paul Jaminet to create an environment where the ill can possibly find a path to healthfulness through our direction. It will be a 30 day program where we teach our clients the path to removing toxins from their diet, replacing them with a dietary plan and lifestyle crafted to maximize their body's ability to heal itself.

The entire plan is far more complex than I ca describe here in a short time, but I am truly excited with the possibilities that exist. One of our brethren will be joining the beta program next Monday. I have had a few inquiries from others. including some wishing to join me in my efforts to recreate Ao in this new direction.

This first beta round, we will be attempting to help folks with a variety of maladies: Lupus, Essentntial Tremors, Obesity, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Alcoholism, Malnourishment, degenerative joints, dementia/Alzhemier's, Psoriasis and more. We do not believe our program (PHD30) will be a panacea for all involved, but we are anxious to find out whom we can benefit the most, with all expected to get better. I have one or two beds open for the 30 day beta at no charge. Contact me if you or someone you know could possibly benefit but not be able to afford it when we go to a pay per month model.I will always have a couple of spaces available on a free or sliding scale to assist those less fortunate, but at some point I need to make this into a self-sustaining venture and with our limited space and extreme personal interaction and planning, its not going to be cheap.

Check out Paul Jaminet's (my partner in this) book at Amazon, The Perfect Health Diet. The whole program is based on that tome.

Best of luck with this. We talked for about an hour about it and I think you've got a good thing going here.

I own that book but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I think MT recommended it in a thread awhile back.

My biggest question is the "curing alcoholism" aspect of your project. That just sounds downright un-American.

In all seriousness that sounds really awesome and good luck, Cos!

I realize questioning alcohol abuse is somewhat verboten in here, and I have my own struggles keeping it in rein. But research has shown that an an optimally running physical well-being reduces the desire to consume/abuse alcohol. I just want to enable anyone visiting to leave with the tools and abilities to live their life to the fullest. and seldom does that formula include excessive alcohol.. We endorse a couple of drinks daily. More than that is generally harmful. Sorry (for me too).

At the same time we welcome the foibles and weakness of the human condition Several of our clients in the beta have some serious alcohol issues secondary to other disorders. we welcome them as they are and are okay with their one or two bottles of wine a day (or equivalent) as they begin their healing process. While we do not think it leads to optimum health, it may be what rhey need to get by on their path.

Paul brings the program that we will personalize and implement to all who come. I will provide the accommodations and life experiences to supplement and enhance the process. We will teach all who are interested: how to grow organic gardens/ raised beds in their backyards, along with chicken coops (sorry woz, its incredibly healthy). I will teach all how to cook and menu plan, how to make and obtain the healthiest foods available, whether by cookery, creation (kimchi, etc), yard eggs, fishing (including flyfishing and flytying classes). We will use all the natural splendor in and around Austin for these activities and more,
I'm fortunate enough that I don't have any major health issues, but this whole thing sounds really awesome.

Thanks. I think so too. I hope I can realize it. All efforts and energies are directed toward it.

Yes. Yes it does. And if I had a month to kill, I'd be there.

On an extremely sad note, I realize than running a health retreat pretty much means I cannot smoke cigs and be taken seriously,

In five hours all cigarettes and cigars will be prohibited by the staff here. Lozenges and e-cigs are ok as we transition.

Ugh.

And I need to reign in the alcohol consumption., too.

Double-ugh.

I'd really encourage both of you to study the book ans use it in your lives. Contact me at any time with questions or ambiguities in applying it to your lifestyles. Being young enough to arrest the maladies and sickness emanating from your diet may keep either of you from facing them in your futures. I wish I knew at your age what I know now.

I once asked a friends wife with Lupus if that meant she turned into a werewolf when there was a full moon. She was not amused, probably because it was true.

Happy day to the mothers and mother####ers out there in gmtan world. We had a great day
:hifive: Had my mom and little sister over for dinner. Made pork tenderloin, green beans, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes. For once everything somehow turned out perfect. Drunk and hanging out on the patio now. Only thing that could possibly make life any better is a big stack of pull-tabs in front of me.
Little sister, you say?

Well, all cards are on the table now. Wife took back all our online accounts and found more credit card balances her scumbag husband had run up. All told my tab is at about 26k. I expected she was going to already be talking to divorce lawyers but instead she is calling my parents and insisting I get some professional help. I welcome both things - I don't know what's wrong with me and my financial discipline (or lack thereof) is ruining my life and its a hair away from costing me my marriage. So that's that. For some reason - even now - I've thought that I could earn my way out of it. Not like winning the lottery but rather having a couple good months at work and id have an extra 20k lying around. Not like that has ever happened before. Need some help I think.

I don't know what's wrong with me. I have been taking other people's money without consequence for a decade. I don't know if its some mix of thinking an investment in a business is at risk so if its lost, oh well. I don't know if its because I've always thought id be successful with some idea and all the struggles would be worth it. I don't know if I'm a financial sociopath or something. But now I'm self destructing as fast as possible - she asked me last week if there was anything else she needed to know and of course I kept my mouth shut.

Honestly, Abe (  ), I would have guessed you were much deeper in the hole than that. Plenty of small business folks are easily $100k+ in debt. Sometimes much much more. You also have a growing number of students who have loan debt that is almost too soul-crushing to think about. If you're trimming expenses and making steady money, your debt will evaporate pretty quickly. You do need to be disciplined, though.

This is my personal debt I've put on my wife's cards. My business is 250 in the hole.

Your risk analysis is fouled up. Your assessed risk of loss is too low, and your assessed risk of high returns is too high. It's not uncommon, but you're woefully uncalibrated at this.

Okay, that's more in line with what I would have expected. It's a lot, I won't lie, but you'll have to draw up a plan to overcome some of your prior tendencies and appetite for risk.

As long as we're on the subject of how not to run a business (were we on that subject?)...

You might recall that when I said I was going to leave my former employer, they offered to meet all demands I had to stay, other than letting me work remotely part of the time (I had offered every other week in the office but indicated some flexibility).

Friday was my last day of employment, but I arranged to do some contract work for them in the M&A area only as they are desperately in need of help there. They guaranteed me a minimum of 25 hours per week for 12 weeks at a particular hourly rate.

Yep, you know where this is going. They are now getting me to do only one area of work, with none of the other dozen areas I covered and none of the administrative or management aspects, at a cost to them that is higher than what they were previously paying me, and I can do the work from anywhere I want 100% of the time.

Actually I had no idea where it was going. That's why I never went into business.

Yeah, 26K? That's like a used, mid-sized American sedan. Call the CCs up and tell them to put you on a fixed plan. Pay it off in 60 months. Don't ever open up another card. Live like a 1970s Fry Cook. Stop eating out. Make your own moonshine.

Debt kills for sure, but I'm with Pickles here. That's not an insurmountable hole to climb out of.

Oh. Ignore my last message.

That's not an insurmountable hole to climb out of.
what about 10 times that?
