GM's thread about nothing (50 Viewers)

Dislike, Bob. Go hard on the contract, IMO. What are they going to do, try to cancel it again?
Cancel? No. They guy just tried to explain they were going to walk away from it. That is really wasn't a contract. Well I've been waiting for this day since last October. I've thought in my mind hundreds of times on how I would play these cards when this day inevitably happened. He said since they bought the company, it was now null and void. I chuckled and said, that's not how contracts work. We've held up our end of the deal, the main one being no price increases for the first year of the contract. He eventually backed down and said "they will make it right". ### #### mother####ing right you are. I then called the CFO (second in command) of company that signed the contract and asked him, if he were asked by the new people, if he considered it a three year "contract", and he said of course he would and would tell them as much.

Two weeks ago they announced getting rid of most of the people here that were left so I knew the .01% chance I had of keeping the business was gone. There was 150 people here, now there will be 20. It was a big source of pride for me because I did everything for these people including designing all of the furniture for their office, conference rooms etc. It was always neat to see it and think "I did this". I actually went by Tuesday and said goodbye to everybody that was still there. I've done business with these people for over 20 years and knew just about every person in the company and everybody across the nation. I know/knew them better than CEO/CFO did. I'm not good at what I do, I'm great. I wouldn't claim that about anything else. They trusted me so much, as they should because I'm extremely trustworthy, to run things as I saw fit. I really was a member of the "team". The only good thing is I don't have the sword hanging over my head any longer.

I'm rambling. Sorry, it has been a tough day, lost a ton of money. The show must go on though and I nailed it. Now I'm going to see about drinking a bunch of whiskey.

This is 1000X more scary than breaking my neck. Poor is something I've been and scares the everliving####outofme to be there again.

Got a dreaded call this morning, not holding on to my biggest account that was bought out last year. Was expecting it but still. Major amount of money to me, like 50% of my take home. We had a 3 year contract with 2 to go and he tried to blow it off but I challenged him on it. Hard. I think you GMTANLawyers would be proud. Meeting on the 21st to discuss terms on how they are going to make it right. I would LOVE to break down and go insane right now but I have appointments to keep. This is where a real pro is supposed to shine right? ####. See you guys tonight, probably won't be able to type though.

ETA

E-mom, hey
You have consulted a non-internet attorney about this, right?
Yes/No

I had another big client that I lost 8 years ago, same situation, bought out by another company, and they just went ahead and paid me for the remainder of the contract. The exact same document except for some particulars like pricing and different service we would do. This is actually more detailed than that one. They are Fortune 100 company so either they just didn't want to mess with it, or they thought it was binding. Personally, I think both.

I'm around if you want to bounce ideas off of me.
I really appreciate that my brother.

Oh and "Guy on a Buffalo" is money. Moar
similiar

Thanks for the input guys.

Thorn and I talked on the phone and he confirmed that it's good news for now. but like T Bell and Beavers said, they can reopen a case, but when they can again, he is unsure as it varies by state. I will be getting this to my attorney on Monday if she doesn't already have a copy of it.

At least for the rest of the weekend, I can breathe and somewhat enjoy it.

Big thanks to Thorn for talking to me on the phone in the middle of a holiday weekend!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes and info from all.
UPDATE

I resubmitted my paperwork like they asked. Got a message to fax over one more document, did that and got a message a week later saying they never received it. I thought "here we go again:. Refaxed it.

Yesterday I have an envelope from them that they overnighted. I've had this before, last time it was a notice to accelerate.

In an amazing turn of events, we were approved for a loan mod. Now I've read that people that did get loan mods, the mod was $50-$60/mo, not anywhere near enough to make an impact, so I definitely didn't have my hopes up. Reading on, They reduced my mortgage by $300/mo.

Definitely brought it into the window we can afford, not as low as I wanted, but we can handle it.

Holy crap! :excited: I've been in a little bit of shock all day. Now it's only a "3 month Temporary payment plan", but it says if we make all the payments on time they will re-evaluate and see if we can handle it permanently. Holy crap! :excited:

The mortgage starts new and all the late fees are to be payed in a lump sum when we sell in the future. Holy crap! :excited:

All in all FINALLY something good happened to us. We won't be selling and we will be able to stay now. Such an awesome feeling! Holy crap!!!! :excited:

It's Miller Time!!!!!! :banned:
Great news man. Really, really, happy for you.

Wow, tremendous news! What a relief.

All those contact you made in that company got to land somewhere, so I think you're going to make some of this back going forward. Stay strong, brother.

I volunteered to show up to my son's Catholic school tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. with my tool box to help sand and repaint the lunch tables in return for double hours of credit. That seemed like a really good idea at the time, but I'm now kicking myself for it. Dammit! :wall:

Damn, Bob. Good luck.

And good news Engleberg.
Thanks man. These guys bought 1.2 million from me the year before they sold. It's been on a decline since but it will still be 900k for the year ending August 30th. I'm sure that is a big coincidence that now is when he decided to transition to a new company. You know after we've been taking it in the ### for a year not increasing prices even though we've taken on thousands of them.

Lots of big numbers are thrown around these days, so to put it in perspective, lets equate this in the terms of copy paper. Any good buyer (TF I'm looking at you) at a big company should get copy paper around $28 bucks a carton. The big guys generally don't but for this purpose, lets say they do like I was giving it to them. That's 42,857 cartons of copy paper.

Good news I picked up 2 new accounts this week and another one I'll get for sure since my GB is the boss. Now I only need to do this 147 more times and I'll be back to even. :lmao:

Yeah, bad play. You can borrow my sander if you like.

The copy paper analogy lost me.
Well, you hear in the news about the gov spending a couple hundred mil here, a bil there. Some sports guy making 20 mil a year etc. So 1.2 million might not seem like a lot but you can buy a bunch of office supplies with that money. Monty.

Yeah, that'll make it all better. Thanks.
I would help if I were close by. Manual labor takes my mind off of stuff. I might go for a marathon walk tomorrow.

You walk on your hands?

I like to play the "How Mad Would You Get?" game with my wife, on a scale of 1 to 10. If you're keeping score at home, a "New Otis" would be a 5, infidelity is an 8, and dumping a spoonful of catfood into that night's dinner is a 10.

That's true for me too, and I know you'd help, GB.

It'll actually be ok - other dads will be there and it's nice to work with my hands. I just hope it's not hot as balls tomorrow.

I hope you're keeping a record of this for posterity. Pics are nice; video's better.

Do you want the actual dumping, or the reactions of people to eating cat food?

Reaction pics. I know what dumping cat food looks like.

Still lost. That's a lot of coin. Just not sure what it has to do with copy paper.

See I sell a lot of copy paper. I thought in the interest of the board I would put some perspective on how much 1.2 million worth of office stuff is. I'm sure everybody has seen a case of copy paper right? Now imagine almost 43,000 cartons of it. That's a lot of copy paper=a lot of stuff.

But the analogy doesn't make sense as you already said you sold them furniture and designed the space. If i were your boss id Say "bob, you need to diversify the line with these guys...your spending way too much time selling a low margin commodity instead of something specialized that the competition can't compete against. Get that vag head in there and start pushing some other items!"You should have made the analogy more understandable like "8,299 cases of bud light" or 7,456 cartons of cigarettes or something like that. Or something with robots or sharks. Or boobs.

I'd totally bang a robot shark if it has nice ####
